As the lockdown tennis continues I took full advantage of Black Friday deals before Christmas and decided it was time to address a few items that were always on the list
First up was getting a new set of wheels, I’ve been running a set of 18 x 7.5 OZ Ultraleggera for the last number of years and it’s limited me to 225 section tyres, and now with the extra grunt traction can be an issue on all but the newest tyres, I’ve got around this by running slicks in the summer but its limiting when you get a spot of rain (as we often do in Ireland)

So I opted for a set of Konig Hypergrams 18 x 8.5 et38, and later fitted some Nankang AR-1 255/35 so they should offer a nice bump in traction (the photo below is just the old set of R888R 225s I threw on for test fitting)

While I was fitting the new wheels I got distracted and decided to fit a tyre rack to my trailer so I could at least fit some wets to the old wheels and bring them with me

Upto this point I’ve kept the external of the car pretty standard looking, but I always intended to fit some functional aero and I’ve always been tempted  by the Verus Engineering parts, so I took full advantage of their Black Friday deals and bought this lot!

First up was fitting the adjustable front splitter, I opted to install it at 5” extension just too see how it will work, However the install of the front splitter was not straight forward as anything beyond a 3” extension meant that two of the tie rods would extend beyond the bumper,

I ended up drilling two new mounting holes further back and making two offset brackets, I also ran into issues with the length of the tie rods, which at 5” were running at max extension with very little thread engagement left within the turnbuckle, so I installed some spacers behind the crash beam brackets to allow me to shorten them a little.

I also went with the accompanying end plate and canards, while installing the end plate I decided to reinforce the bumper edges with some aluminum backing plates just to give the rivet nuts a better chance of staying put!

    Finally all were installed

With that lot sorted I’ve still got the rear wing, and bonnet vents to fit.
I’ve also bought the Verus steering angle limiting kit, as the wisefab kit has given me some extra lock but on full the tyres are touching the inner wheel arch

As my persistent 2nd gear grinding continues I also bought a new set of Verus carbon synchros that I’ll get fitted at some stage, and finally my battery was shot after 4 yrs of trickle charging and trackdays so I replaced it with a new Odyssey PC950
  4. Thanks

I hadn’t really planned the next mod but a little man maths and my inherent weakness for billet parts was just too much to resist

Initially I was thinking along the usual route of buying individual suspension parts control arms, toe rods etc but the Wisefab kits actually make more sense and they have the added benefit of beautiful billet uprights which have a built in 25mm drop on the knuckles all round.

I always associated Wisefab with drifting parts but they also make track kits that maintain the original track widths front and rear, giving pretty much all the adjustment you could ever want. More important for me though was that fact the kits correct the suspension geometry for lowered cars, whilst also saving 14kg on the rear and 7kg up front which is pretty significant on a suspension system.

    Rear Kit

    Front kit

I’ve only managed to fit the rear so far, unfortunately I couldn’t source the rear kit in black. Its a relatively straight forward install, but did require a few tweaks to the AP racing 4 pot calliper bracket to make it work with the billet knuckles mounting points.

Side by Side of the old OEM components and new Wisefab rear kit

New Bits installed on the rear, you can really see just how high the hub is placed in the new knuckle

Hopefully I’ll get a decent run at the front over the next week or so, and then carry out a quick alignment before the next track day.

There was someone on a German GT86 forum that was making some decent looking ones, I might have it bookmarked somewhere, will have a look and post the link if I find it.

Thanks yeah I thought the same RE the rivets.
    Its on the road
Well I'm glad to say the BRZ flew through the MOT, with one advisory for a nail in the rear tyre, meh I have new wheels going on soon.  So glad to get it to where it is, but this is just stage 1.  Stage 2 involves modding it, plenty to come.  Therefore its now taxed and insured. Heres a picture as it sits now:

It certainly does, not many green ones about.  Ive never seen a Porsche RS green one.
Here is the photoshop I created which covers my plans for the BRZ based off a yellow STI from Japan, lets see how close I get to it:

Still a long way to go, it certainly wont remain stock for long, plenty of parts ready to go on it one rebuilt.  So pleased with the colour it came out perfect and gives me a matching pair with my Mini.

A bit more detail. I’ve tried the 50 N mm rear springs on two sets of tyres I have both on 18 x 8” rims. They are Yoko AD08R 235/40 and Toyo R888R 225/40 and although the R888Rs have  stiffer sidewalls they allow the suspension.to work well still. Even down my local very bumpy B Road they have enough suspension travel and they haven’t bottomed out at the rear. I’m running the dampers at the rear on 22 clicks from full hard out of a total of 30 clicks so they ride even over potholes and smaller ridges is still very good. I went for the standard 20 mm preload on the 50. N mm springs.
I have my first track day after lockdown next Tuesday at Brands so I’ll let you know how it goes then

    @AJ124 Thanks for the feedback...

    * The original Ohlins kit with 6k springs and top mounts is good for B roads / Track
    * The Flex A's are good on B roads but ultimately too soft for track (CGS spec stiffer but no UK review)
    * Moton's are excellent on B roads and track but very low speed bumps not so good (adjustment on the Moton's is greater than AST5100's)
    * AST5100,  Personalise with valving / springs, AST 30mm raised front top mounts (top mounts can also be fitted to other coilovers). no on road review yet
    * Reiger R3, UK dealer will contact me next week, Used by Toyota for tarmac and gravel comp. cars but no UK road review
    * Nitron NTR R1/R3 I'd love to hear from anyone in the UK who has these on an 86

    Bumping an old thread but a reply from Ian at GodSpeed;
We have sold a few of these kits to various different cars including the BRZ/GT86, We have had no feedback of bias issues. The Brembo calipers have 4 x 40mm pistons each caliper. I know a popular upgrade for the rear if you did want to increase the size, is the rear Brembo brakes from a 2008 onwards Impreza STI.

Lovely little update today from Simon at Carson Performance, managed to sort the clutch issue so SHE MOVES! For the 1st time in over 3 years it is moving under it's own power!
Just a couple of small bits to attend to and then it's off to the bodyshop on 12th April in preparation for it's first show since 2015!

It's taken Carson Performance just 4 days to completely change the engines over and get the new one ready to fire! Their work and determination has been astounding. Never afraid to overcome and issue and put in the extra effort to get things done right.
Today I helped put the finishing touches to the water pipes, reinstall the supercharger and wiring loom. All ready for us to load the base map into the Motec and push the start button.
Unfortunately after hours of trying, we got stuck with the ECU software. Turns out the map was written for 2017 firmware and mine has 2016 firmware on it  such a tiny mistake has halted us at the final hurdle
Obviously not getting my Christmas miracle, but here's hoping some good news still to come for 2019.

What would you like to know?

It has a much larger center silencer and this in turn reduces the note when cruising very well. It does have a very subtle tone therefore at say 70mph.

When pressing on, it still gives off a nice bark and in our opinion is a nice balance between the two.

There are some videos on our Youtube channel

I can get my XL Devinci Troy and my mates L Cube stereo in mine, wheels and pedals off both bikes, also got our kit for two day in wales crammed in too! Takes a bit of planning haha.
If it’s just mine I take the non drive side pedal off and put the bike in with the gears facing up.
