Just spotted that the 86 has been featured in a little article by Pistonheads https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-japanesecars/the-4k-gt86-readers-car-of-the-week/38086

Got these fitted today, 18x8.5 ET45, on 225/40 PS4s. Stock suspension and no spacers. Not too far from perfect, if I do say so myself
(yep, I know it needs a clean...)

Grab the shaft in your hand and thrust it and up and down a bit. You may end up with stuff on your hand.
Oh wait, this is a car forum.

sam534 reacted to br0wny in Another coilover question
I have recently put the BC BR (cheapest) coilovers on my car and in the softest setting they're much more comfortable for daily use compared to the stock suspension and even the Mrs noticed the difference straight away!
I'm yet to have a fiddle with settings as it currently ticks all the boxes for the driving I'm doing at the moment - primarily bumpy Yorkshire A/B roads
Doing a track day at Anglesey in August so plan on having a fiddle with them whilst there
There seems to be a good range of height adjustment too. The rears will go about 10-15mm lower and the fronts about an inch lower compared to pic below.
On a side note I was originally going to go for Tein Flex Z or A but was informed by a man in the know that they don't have the same corrosion resistance as the BC suspensions. Whether thats the case or not I don't know but alas it helped made my mind up for some reason.
Also worth noting they redesigned the rear top mount/hats to avoid the knocking noises you may have read about online. Also my mate bought some of the same for his Subaru to replace his even cheaper ebay specials and also found ride comfort fantastic

Turns out that the springs and wheels haven't completely tamed the rear end. On the way home last night it had rained a little bit leading to a lovely tail wag whilst getting onto the M6.

If you're not making that face behind the wheel then you bought the wrong car

I don't order off there but handy for finding part numbers and then just google it. Some turn up on eBay but most are listed in the US, it's only around $12 so why not call up the local dealer?
If you chuck the updated part number in Google (SU00305866) it find the updated item so there has been a revision. Amayama comes from Japan, I've bought from them before, but as above I'd see what Toyota charge.

I found that only plastic welding works well for these type of parts. You can use a cheap 40v soldering iron to melt the plastics and grab some scrap pp

Just a small update, bought some goodies for the 86 despite the fact its still in 1000 pieces
Set of Clear/black/red Valenti lights from Ft86speedfactory in the states, these were my favourite over the smoked or red lensed offerings we get here and they were actually ever so slightly cheaper even after delivery and import costs
Going to get the rear lights installed this weekend but the 3rd light might take a little bit more work to get it to function as a fog light.

And don't forget there is a fair amount of gravel at Donington.
-
sam534 reacted to Rich in 1st track day
Donington is an excellent track, it's the best track in the country I've driven (though I've not driven Oulton). The Craner Curves are something else.
There's decent run off on many corners, but it is not a track you can just fly off with nothing to hit in all cases. Also don't underestimate how far the car will go on grass at speed.

Yesterday, I had a surprising message off the TPIC shop on Aliexpress who sold me the poorly shaped carbon trim for the drivers door switch panel. For some reason they'd not been able to see my messages asking for help, were very apologetic and have acknowledged there was an issue with fitment. The RHD trim has been redesigned and they're going to contact me once available so I can order one and replace the bodged whitetak fitment I have at the moment!

sam534 reacted to rob275 in First time buying machine polisher
For applying sealants with a DA you should use a finishing pad always. I tend to apply by hand with an applicator pad though. It's easier to get coverage in hard to get to places you would miss with a 150/160mm pad... You could get smaller pads but then you need to either have a second polisher or keep swapping the backing plate off. It then becomes a bit of a PITA especially considering the majority of sealants/waxes don't need working in they tend to work themselves in (If that makes sense) lol.
There's nothing stopping you applying that poorboys product with a DA, though i've not used it. You wont cause any damage, get it and have a play I reckon.
