Tilly 20 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 mate that's epic, just lol'd at plastidipping the bootlid, that's quality. I love people who aren't scared to just get stuck in! RE: the Rotas, I know exactly what you mean but have you thought about some as simple as having custom graphics made up for the spokes to make it a little unique? this is a marmite mod but check this: I also did something kiiiiiinda similar on my old TE37's on my S15. I re-painted them in what I can only describe as cadburys purple and had the Volk & Rays graphics re-made in gold with a black background and again, another marmite mod but I'd say 80% of the people that saw it in the flesh absolutely loved it and was definitely a bit different to the usual boring "scene" stuff you tend to see

Varelco 211 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 Those 57Getters are seriously nice. What spec would you get them in?
JamesP1991 222 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 Definitely the 57Getters buddy! A set of those would contrast the bright liquid yellow beautifully!
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 57 Getters. Rota Grids are just fake TE37's and everyone's got them anyway. Unless you are going to go all out and get the real thing I'd say the Getters would look fab on your car. Just so you know TE37SL's have the concave design, where do you think Rota nicked it from?
Ztox 230 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 Yea I was looking at TE37SL's for the dish but alas, will have to settle for Grid Drifts I can get 2 for less than the price of one TE37 I prefer the FXX out of those 2 for what it's worth Keith

rob275 1817 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 "Lauren approved" Yeah we're going to start selling JDM wheels on the forum that come with a certificate , these will also have a silly premium added on top of the silly premium seen from the Japanese market 5 Deacon, Keethos, nikndel and 2 others reacted to this
Keethos 842 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 @Tilly - Nice, your wheels sound interesting, got any pics? I actually had this idea originally but slowly grew out of it: and this was roughly my aim: but things happened and it never came to be. Again I'll give this idea a try again with some photoshopping but I'm not holding breath....then again it'll be a lot cheaper than going Gram Lights. @ Lauren - again I'd love to go proper TE37SL Black Editions: but as Ztox has already mentioned, we're talking mega bucks, I think RareRims quoted about £2k or something for all 4 and I doubt any will pop up 2nd hand anytime soon. Plus, from the pics I've seen, they still don't seem as concaved as Rotas, but sadly have no real way to compare. @Varelco - probably 18x9.5J which comes as ET40 all round, a couple of reasons for this, a) 9.5J is the only size you get the Face 2 look which is the more concaved look, b ) Because of the Seibon front wings being 10mm wider, I need wider wheels to fill the arches more and c) Possibly planning ahead for FI maybe. First wheel is a 19x8.5J Face 1 wheel and 2nd is 19x8.5J Face 2 wheel, sadly 18" only has a Face 2 design for a 9.5J wheel.
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 19's are too big and will look silly as 19's tend to. I think it's better to stick with 18's as otherwise you're just a GJOB'er. If the wheel isn't quite right choose the other one. 1 Keethos reacted to this

Keethos 842 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 So after a night of photoshopping, here's what I've come up with: 1) Gram Lights 57FXX Really difficult to find a decent picture as they always come out really really black. 2) Gram Lights 57FXX with Red Highlights Bit of playing around 3) Gram Lights 57FXX with Yellow Highlights 4) Gram Lights 57Getter Shame the photo I was using has the wheels a lil blurry and no red calipers 5) Rota Grid Drifts Black with Yellow Club Sticker Starting to like these again after this lil experiment but equally still love the look of the Gram Lights and lastly a wild card:6) Rota Grid Drifts Gold with Black Club Sticker I know, a bit of a wacky one but thought I'd give it a try.....and it doesn't actually look to bad to me. Update on thoughts now that you can see my yellow with the wheels?

Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted June 1, 2015 Sticking with 4. Although I like 3 too, though think they'd look better with only the rim picked out in yellow. The inner highlights look too fiddly. Not sure the label thing works in 5 and 6. Remind me of my habit of wearing new pairs of trousers without remembering to take the labels off first... ;-)
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 2, 2015 4 is best. Obviously of the non-approved ones (5 and 6), 6 would actually be way better if they were bronze TE37SL's rather than that gold colour of the Rotas. The big issue with black wheels is that you can never see the detail. It's subtle but in a bad way. The anthracite of the 57 Getters lets you see the detail. Tilly 20 Report post Posted June 2, 2015 I was never able to get any decent pics on my phone, a photographer explained the reason to me once and was something to do with certain colours in the spectrum so they never actually showed in the correct colour they always came out more blue. Here's a pic with the re-done logos A better pic of the colour before graphics I don't really have many of the original wheels as the graphics were getting a bit tatty but this is one the previous owner took which shows the standard white and blue combo The graphics just seem to set the wheels off a tad, it really is a shame there's no decent pics of the finished wheels when they were purple lol 1 Keethos reacted to this
Varelco 211 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 Tough choice, the FXX with yellow highlights looks look awesome but so do the 57Getters... I want a set of Getters for my red one but I will be going for the narrower Face 1 8.5j. Where was you planning to buy your wheels from?
Keethos 842 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 When I get the funds, I'm probably going to get them from Nathan from Japex who will be shipping them direct from Japan as he can do a pretty good deal on them. For the 18x9.5j wheels, your looking just just shy of £1000 for a set of 4 including postage if you're lucky with customs, if not, about £1200 I believe, while UK suppliers will do them for about £1440 but don't know if that includes postage. The UK supplier is Coordsport who supply to the other venders on here such as Fensport and Abbey I believe, if you wanted to get them from the UK. The 8.5j ones will he about £1382 from Coordsport but again don't know about postage.
Varelco 211 Report post Posted June 10, 2015 If you can get them for around £1200 to your door that's pretty impressive, I was expecting them to be quite a bit more expensive than that! Thanks for the insight. Look forward to seeing which route you go down. 1 Keethos reacted to this

Keethos 842 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Since I've changed the colour of my car, thought it was time to do something about the white interior bits, so I decided to wrap it in a yellow carbon fibre wrap (which isn't a million miles off matching the paint colour).....I thought my wrapping skills had improved since the last time but even though they looked good to begin with, they have now start to peal and raise off the part in the corners will probably get them hydro dipped at some point. Sadly, I also recently discovered this It's a pretty big chip and it seems to be flaking up a lil around the edges.....Doesn't look like there's as many layers as I was lead to believe
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Just decided to fill in the gaps in the wheel? Did you take the wheel apart? 3M stuff may be a better bet.
Keethos 842 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 More like just bridged across, there's nothing underneath, last time I pressed the wrap in and it followed nicely, but eventually started to peal up a bit so thought I'd leave it up instead. Just popped the air bag unit off, unscrewed 2 screws and the trim pops off, don't even have to disconnect the air bag. Do 3M do yellow carbon fibre vinyl? Only a temporary thing for the time being, ultimate was it hydro dipping as my wrapping skills aren't great and still have folds and creases.
Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Keith, it normally shouldn't be flaking around the chip, I think you should have a word with the garage buddy. 1 Keethos reacted to this
Tweedbean 151 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 Keethos I like the idea of what your doing, but not a massive fan of fake carbon fibre, especially as you have the real deal elsewhere on the car. I think getting them painted liquid yellow would look much better and you don't have the issue you see with peeling etc. The fake carbon wrap/hydro dip carbon looks cheap compared to the great work you have done on the outside of the car. Obviously this is just my personal opinion so you can ignore me completely and do what makes you happy. 1 Keethos reacted to this
