Kodename47 446 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 All black wheels mate? Have to say I've been tempted to do similar with mine.Cost/Company?
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 Yes mate, my wheels were slightly damaged from the crash so thought I'd get them refurbed from a company over in Redditch, he did me a favour and charged me £240 for the job but he's closing shop soon and deciding to do something else instead. I was surprised how different they look when all black as you don't really notice the extra spokes around the back because the shiny spokes really get in your face, now that they're all black they look like completely different wheels. Sadly my back up plans have gone down the pan too this morning, I was thinking maybe going all out and getting the Seibon Wide Fenders with Vents, but it seems that there aren't any in the UK so I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks for them to be shipped in which would be too late. So I'm taking a chance on my initial guy who will customise a set of fenders for me, what I'll have to do is get my body shop guy to source a single fender just in case the fender guy doesn't come through with the customised ones. If he doesn't then at least I can still get the car done, I won't be pleased as I really wanted some vents down the sides.....just means it'll have to be a future project but it means spending more money If he does, great, just means I'll have to sell the spare fender on ebay Fingers crossed it all goes to plan! Lauren 2259 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 Definitely an improvement. Bet you can't wait to get the bodywork done now!
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 26, 2015 Seriously can't wait but starting to get stressed out with having to juggle so much at the moment, mega busy with work meant not having time to really concentrate on this and getting everything ready so this whole fender fiasco really isn't helping things as I don't have much time to sort anything else out instead and not only that, the company is on the verge of releasing a new version of our software which means no time off, but then I've got 2 stag dos abroad to go to which both take place over a long bank holiday weekends, I feel like there's no time to breath. And all this is making me make last minute decisions which isn't a great idea when I'm spending so much money on repairs and stuff I just can't wait till this is all over. Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 31, 2015 The day has finally come, I've finally dropped my car off to get it fixed and ultimately transform into something epically awesome! CAN'T WAIT! Had to drop it off early as I don't have time to drop it off any other time so work won't actually start till next week, and sadly it'll be about 3 weeks the wait is guna kill me! It has been too long but it was also kinda fun driving around in this state, the faces and looks was amusing, and the amount of people talking about my car all over the country was impressive, my boss over heard some people chatting about a battered 86 while at a scanning event, turns out they were from Bentley and it was my car they were talking about, I've even had a stalker hunt me down on Facebook after seeing my car parked up somewhere. But the car will come back looking epic, there are lots of extra bits going on so the car will be completely transformed, but I'll leave some of that as a surprise! But for the time being, I'm currently driving around in a Hyundai i10 which has so far made me a lil car sick....and I was driving 6 Deacon, 86alex, adam and 3 others reacted to this

Keethos 842 Report post Posted April 8, 2015 I need advice people....I've got some fenders currently being customised as I'm after some front fenders with side vents down them like I did on my Clio and various other awesome cars, however, the fabricator has made the vents facing forwards rather than backwards (i.e. as if they were inlet vents rather than outlet vents). Can people see this as being a problem at all? My concern is the potential flooding/corrosion of the area under the fenders / around the door hinge areas due to the excessive amount of water, dirt and muck that will get kicked up and into the vents since they are facing forwards. Not only that, I'm worried about the amount of drag this may cause and possibly deforming or worse case scenario ripped off at high speeds. Are these possibilities? Should I be worried? The guy seems to think this would be good to cool the brakes, but for starters, I've still got the wheel arch lining which would block the air from cooling the brakes and even if I was to create a funnel/pipe to the brakes, I still don't see how this would work very well, you've essentially got air going past the outside of the wheels which then goes through the vent, you'd then have to make the air do a U turn back towards the inside of the front wheel only to be confronted with on coming air......am I wrong? Or could it work? Has anyone seen any front facing side vents on any other car before? I don't recall any. Opinions?
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted April 9, 2015 Blimey! The problem is why would anyone have a forward facing vent at the rear of the wing? There will be some drag and it has no purpose at all. I've got tbh,the only option is for him to do it the right way round. Sure they're just cosmetic and achieve nothing, but in their current guise, not only are they going to cause drag, they make no sense at all. As for cooling the brakes, that's just bonkers. Nobody would design something like this. The only front facing side vents I've seen are on mid engined cars.
Tweedbean 151 Report post Posted April 9, 2015 Sorry I agree with Lauren, I had the following made for my old clubman and I will be getting something similar for my GT86. I would expect them to be rear facing. Like comment above, forward facing makes no sense there and for me look weird. You open you self up for water ingress, additional drag and stone chipping on the grills/leading edge. Did he not provide you a design before hand or you provide him with one?Jcw clubman by tweedbean, on FlickrJcw clubman by tweedbean, on FlickrTweedbean MM-2104129 by miniFOO UK, on FlickrTweedbean MM-2093929 by miniFOO UK, on Flickr Sent from my iPad
Keethos 842 Report post Posted April 9, 2015 They look good dude, where did you get them made from? I provided images of all the fenders with Vents for the 86 that I could find, because he took so long to get these done, he said that he'd buy a set of customise them and I didn't like them then I didn't have to have them. So since I've not paid for anything, I might tell him to do one. To me, these vents are just cosmetic, they aren't supposed to do anything in particular but I don't want something that will cause me problems. I just hope I can get something else in time since the car is already in the body shop now

Keethos 842 Report post Posted April 9, 2015 Yeah, seen those, and the Avest ones, and the Ings+, it's just a matter of getting them here in time Nathan from Japex says he can get them shipped within 3-5 working days from leaving their work shop, but doesn't say how long it'll take for him to get them in if in stock, otherwise it'll be an additional 2 weeks to have the produced before shipping which would be too late then....doesn't help that Nathan isn't always the quickest with responses. Keethos 842 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 After almost a year since that fateful day that I hurt my poor baby, my car was finally booked in for it's long overdue repairs. The car was dropped off back in March 31st to a small garage with a lonely old man working his socks off call A.J.Artus in Birmingham around the corner from Star City. So after my lil design moment in seeing how a black boot would look as well as the whole fiasco with the retard fabricator who thought front fender vents should face fowards, I had to change some of the plans/designs and ended up going full carbon fibre bonnet and fenders. Sadly because of that, the work dragged on a lot longer than anticipated (and hiked up the price big time ....wouldn't have been a problem if I was able to get the OEM fenders with the vents facing the right bloody way!!!). I thought the Seibon stuff were supposed to be pretty good stuff but they were a serious pig to fit and even worse, had lots of pin holes and rough edges in the laquer which needed sorting out in order to get them painted properly. Another problem that occurred was that I was going to stick on a subtle body kit too but it required a lot of fettling and probably bonding to the car, and since I wasn't sure if I would like the design, I decided against it and didn't bother with it in the end, so something else will go in it's place but no time soon I'm afraid. I popped in as often as I could, this meant almost every other weekend and any days off I had as April and May were full of the odd days off with 2 long stag do weekends as well as being stupidly busy at work. So I needed as much rest as I could but could never truly rest with all this going on at once, never mind the worry of the car and all the problems that came up because of it But I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, the car will be picked up finally tomorrow morning (fingers crossed) and then I'll be heading straight down to meet Lauren at GPRM, then Rob at some dude's garage in Chiseldon, then down to the Premier Inn in Chippenham ready for Japfest at Castle Combe on the Saturday and then over to the Supercar Seign at Leeds Castle on the Sunday.....a very very busy weekend again!!! Pics of the colour change will be posted tomorrow night so stay tuned!!! 7 Deacon, Pitman, Quball and 4 others reacted to this
