LFA got a reaction from Knighty in Info Wanted - Nurburgring 2017
Lots of good advice in the above posts, and if you are planning to drop the hammer whilst there, then;
do track days before your first Ring trip do some prep; learn the sections of the track and layout using videos or games to gain some familiarity understand the financial risks re being uninsured if you drive TF in your uk road insured car; paralyse a biker or knock a GT3, could cost you VERY big I've done TF and track days there and I'd say TF' especially if busy (hols, weekends, adjacent Motorsport events) is the more dangerous way to drive it.
Or coast aroung round with the coaches👍

Closer to WR Blue with each iteration too.
Getting uglier too; a well established Subaru design path lol.

that's all you need, and when it comes to pads just a touch more; don't go too aggressive.

HKS catless Headers, Cobra Overpipe , 2nd Cat delete pipe , Resonated Exhaust System and EcuTek quick tune.
Other dyno plot is a stock car on our dyno at the Dyno Day we ran sometime ago.
Small amount of dyno work think there is more to be found in the tune but torque dip has been removed , torque throughout the rev range up.
Start of the development program for the NA boys. Add 40bhp to get an estimate flywheel figure.

LFA reacted to Special K in Oil Discussions
Thanks Ed. (Good to see you posting again..)
I don't think the risks as ".. laid out.." in regards to cooling issues give the full picture so far.
And, with respect to both you and Mark, none of us is sufficiently experienced in this subject, so the picture changes.
I think it is necessary that guys like you, Mark, Adrian (and to a lesser degree myself), who are pushing these boundaries, should be giving information to aspiring owners. That's why this Forum is called a 'Drivers Club' and I for one have no issues in sharing my experiences.
Hominids would have not evolved into sapiens without interbreeding... mentally as well as physically.. And today's ultimate sapiens is a GT86 (1) owner !!
(1) Oh, okay... I'll give BRZ a close runner-up..

Keith; Mark and I are very focused on managing this issue
I think anyone who tracks their car, has any degree of g enhancing goodies, or heat producing ones for that matter, needs to be conversant with the risks as laid out in this great thread.

LFA reacted to Special K in Spec K's road to recovery
As the 'Age of Recovery' threads on this Forum seem to be an interesting subject I will add my own. Not only to waste half an hour on a keyboard but hopefully to give some guidance, insight and depth of pockets required for those who seek the ultimate.
"eh?" I hear you think.... "..ultimate what?"
As MLK said, 'I have a dream'. And mine is to own, drive (and ultimately sell) the fastest, best driveable road-going auto GT86 in Europe.
I am not interested in pretty - I want power, roadholding and predictability... but I insist it is controllable for road (my Granny should be able to drive it, she's 134 and in a wooden box) yet capable of testing her grandson's capabilities at Sprint and trackdays.
Over last winter I engaged Fensport to rebuild my engine with an HKS kit - stroked crank (to 2.2L), new cams (to accommodate the higher piston lift), forged pistons to their design and forged rods. At the same time new injectors and new oil pump. And a stage 3 AVO turbo to mate with my existing 3" exhaust system (also AVO).
Why not Cosworth? They are still poncing about with their forged kit, Adrian at Fensport was still prototyping their stuff, first engine they produced had big problems and it will be a year next Thursday before Cosworth get off their arses and do anything for genuine enthusiasts andget more than their basics on the market.
Why not Carillo and the other stuff from the US? Because I have only met one US supplier worth anything in terms of meeting overseas motorsport commitments - SSP for auto gearbox upgrades. I know Mark at Abbey swears by the 'other stuff' suppliers, having built LFA's engine - but he/they don't use them on the road and they are, to my mind, unproven in the UK where no alternative has existed. (And LFA chooses to dismiss my invites to prove his car inthe UK..)
The downside with the HKS kit - for a turbo car - is dictated by their marketing platform. They want to sell their s/c kits, so the compression ratio is left high. It detracts from the benefit of bottom end boost generated by turbo. They offer three different cylinder head gasket thicknesses (which make a difference of 11.8:1 and 11.5:1 by my maths). And when Carillo/other kits are offering 10:1 c/r (or slightly lower) it seems perverse - Cossie have learned the lesson over the market resistance to 'package' selling, why has Japan not reacted?
But... with the Fensport ECU mapping the turbo boost can be 'progressive'.. (money).. and it is customised to your specific car (money). Hence the decision to map my car in (1) road (2) extreme road (3) wet track (4) extreme track (more money).
Some of you may be aware that I am the only auto trans competing in Europe. Last year, after advice that the Toyo autotrans is built of tissue and stuck together with bubblegum (it is a Lexus de-engineered 8-speed to a paperweight 6-speed, worthy of a max 260bhp), I went to US and got an upgraded autotrans from SSP.
I chose stage 2 valve body (see website) - and, sure enough, it kicks you up the arse when you change on road, it is uncomfortable and, after five miles, my daughter went into premature labour! (I joke). On track it is seemless.. instant response when driving over 4k revs.
As I was planning my engine upgrade, Kris (at SSP) made me aware of a clutch upgrade which was going well with the dragsters over there. One car in NewYork State is pulling 600bhp at the wheels and running a standard Toyo box upgraded with this kit. Has to be the way to go, I think, and ordered a kit - discussed it with Fensport who washed their hands of it - autotrans they have no knowledge about, other than getting it out of your chassis and refitting it.
Howver, Adrian gave me a contact - a man who is, ostensibly, the top competition autotrans guy in the UK

LFA reacted to Keethos in Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
As my journey continues, here's a sneak peak at what I've just got back tonight
Sadly my journey has just had a bit of a spanner thrown into the works, I mentioned previously what I was going to get some custom fenders made, well the geezer who was going to do it for me hasn't gotten around to doing it for me yet and he says that it won't be till next weekend at the earliest at which point the car would have already been handed over to the body shop and I'm not around to have a look at them first, plus I just don't have any confidence at all any more from this guy that he'll actually be able to deliver these custom fenders at all at this point. This went from them possibly doing the whole job for me (repair and paint), to their paint company doing the whole work for me but they'd still do the custom fenders to now nothing at all. So plans will have to change

LFA got a reaction from Tweedbean in tweedbean's GT86
I know this is going to be a good thread.
Despite running more power, I think my 225 40 18 MPSS (18x7.5rims) set up is giving relatively speaking near stock levels of grip, although feels somewhat stiffer than the primacies obviously, and more durable for track use.
Whilst the 86/BRZ looks great on wide rubber, particularly filling those rear arches, appropriately offset/ lowered etc, from a driver's perspective I'd be more conservative.

LFA reacted to Lauren in tweedbean's GT86
You may want to consider the TRD Aero Fins instead of the BRZ ones. The BRZ ones are half the price though!
As for wheels, there are some BBK's that will fit under 17" rims. Having driven the car on both 17s and 18's, I would say 18's don't necessarily ruin the handling, but you'd need a light weight wheel and in 18" that rules out all the Taiwanese ones really. The stock brakes are absolutely fine on the road. Yes it is possible to get them smoking and to fade, but it tends to happen after a prolonged period of really pushing the car. So it won't happen that often. On track anything over ten minutes can get them smoking, but if it's a trackday there's no need to hammer the brakes all the time, though I appreciate it's great if you just don't have to worry about it.
The thing is with 17" is that if you go for a 225/45/17 there is too much sidewall flex whatever you do, so it's better on a 215/45 which having less of a sidewall doesn't seem to have the same problem. This is why I run a 215 on an 8" rim. I may though when I burn off the Primacy tyres I've got on there try an Advan again but in stock sizes on my 8" rim as that may offer the best compromise. If you run an 18" wheel with 225/40/18 you don't get the sidewall flex option, but you need to ensure that you have a light wheel! It's complicated, but I've driven lots of other people's cars and experimented with tyre size myself, so that's what I've found.
Coming from the Mini you'll be used to tons of grip as the Mini is fairly over-tyred really. This car doesn't flow unless you've got it moving around a bit I find, so it's a careful balancing act, especially if you are running NA. Too much grip and you don't get the joy of the handling. Too little and it's a handful, but ultimately more enjoyable!
Choices, choices!

Ed, I have been looking at the Invidia system which seems a good quiet system or we make our own system.
I we make our own system we can angle the outlets towards the floor to help for noise tests.
Catch up next week for a chat.
Thanks

Unless you plan to go open cockpit at some point or rules require, I'd go open face .
If you are running road car safety, bags, belts etc then it's probably all a moot point anyway.
