Car can get as low as 17mpg if u thrash it everyday on the roads. It can be as high as 40. I average 23 which is very low for the car. Expect to have 29.
the car has small brakes which are quite cheap to replace when they wear.
car doesn’t drink oil and if u drive like a normal person the engine will last you forever.
i have had mine for one year and all I would say is the standard tail lights tend to fog up and buying some foam and putting it inside the boot and doors of the car will help it the most. Oh also replace the stock tyres ASAP they suck.

Sorry all, I'm not too active on the forums!
I'm running 14psi to get 400bhp and not as far as I'm aware but I don't know too much about engines etc if I'm honest. As far as I'm aware, the engine seems fine and Mike has done all sorts of tests so he tells me but couldn't tell you what those are as I'm not sure either. Turbo isn't appearing to be pulling oil. Car runs absolutely fine, no oil leaks and not smoking at all so it's very odd but also very frustrating!

No worries, I could write quite a lengthy review on it but it's just getting the time to do it to be honest and would take me a bit of time to gather all of the information as it back dates to when I initially blew it up in September 2019! It is mad that the car has been with TD for a total of 16 months agreed, it's been very frustrating to say the least and of course wasting tax and insurance money whilst it's not been with me... Gutted it drinks so much oil, it's not fun having to check it all of the time and having to top it up so frequently. For example a trip to the Lake District used 800ml of oil to get there and a further 800ml to get back (300 miles each way). So just shy of 3ml per mile... seem to be using more oil than F1 cars or fighter jets...

I wasn't originally running 290bhp, I went from a normal blown NA to full forged & turbo'd 400bhp and it's been problematic ever since in that aspect. Runs fine though, so I try to ignore that it uses so much oil (other than having to check it every day) and try to enjoy it for what it is, as it's pretty fun otherwise...

Around 5k. Amber Performance fitted it for me in the end as I just didn't have the time to do it myself. Made a shade over 300bhp at the flywheel.
Its great actually. Still feels NA. Hasn't ruined the way the car drives at all. It now just feels like I have a much bigger engine.
    Very happy with it.

Jay Bamrah reacted to Leeky in AVO turbo kit near basingstoke
Off the top of my head -
Placement of the turbo. Which equates to:
Cleaner/simpler install with more of an OEM look
shorter length of the header pipework
(Turbo dependent) faster spooling and less lag
    lower centre of gravity
    lighter system
    Shorter oil/water feeds/returns
less hot exhaust pipe near the belts
less heat soak and better air flow as the turbo isn’t wedged up between the top of the engine and the bonnet
I’ve been buying on/off from Fensport for about 20 years, so if they use the AVO kit then I trust their knowledge/experience/opinion.
AVO’s kit is really well designed and built. I’ve seen/heard of quality issues on a number of other kits.
Lots of US tuners are also using the AVO kit and making lots of reliable power.
I only chose to go SC only as I thought the limited supplies of the Cosworth package along with their huge development/testing process (plus their name and reputation) meant it would retain more future value and in 20-30 years may even go up in value.

I’ve no experience of them but there are always plenty of people selling used Gt86 Air suspension, so on that basis I doubt its much good. I assume they go back to springs.
Personally I wouldn’t want to lose my boot to all the gubbins for it and also the extra weight of it all.
Great I suppose if you’re only interested in road use, posing, #stance and shows etc But you don’t get track cars with air ride for good reason.

If car is NA i find it unlikely to have issues with rods even if abused. If overboosted with FI non built engine w/o forged internals .. but imho one can fsck up engine in this case irrelevant of FD ratio.
Short gear ratio gearset + FD is what i'd love to see in mine (so that 1st & 2nd gear stays somewhat same, but other gears come closer down). Pitty that especially former costs more then i'd willing to pay for that.

Short answer is no. But I see the logic in what you are saying/thinking.

Ratio wise you could achieve this by just changing the diff ratio which would either raise/lower all gears as a set at once. No need to change the actual gears in the box itself. But in the real world it wont really offer any extra rod protection.
I think as long as you are not doing 1/4 mile drag racing or traffic light/0-60 launches then I don’t think you’ll be winding up the drivetrain enough to damage the engine because of low down torque.
The way I see it, as long as you already have some momentum when going for the throttle you wont have that situation where you have a static drivetrain reluctantly taking the low down torque/rotational mass of the engine.

Depends what front lip you have and how low you are looking at going. I had a maxton lip and only dropped 15/20mm and it caught on everything, to the point it eventually broke.

    Hi Jay,
Coil-overs aren't a problem it is the lowering and that troughs sharpness. I had my Tein Flex-A lowered to 30mm to still me to go over speed bumps. You can stiffen the suspension to reduce the give, but it will make for a slightly more unpleasant ride.
I have the automatic EDFC system that stiffens when needed based on speed and g force.
You will still need to experiment to find out what works for you mate

Its one of those things that “you wont know until you try” unfortunately.
Unless the road is quiet enough that you are able to stop at the lowest point then get out and measure?
If at stock ride height you are 1/2 an inch from scraping then you know you cant do a 1 inch drop in ride height without contact occurring.

    I doubt anyone will get a 86 as cheap as I did...paid 11K in 2019 for a 2018 with only 4.5k miles....
Cat S, but fully repaired and to this date the only issue's I've had is the passenger door needed adjusting because it rubbed a bit on the bottom and the passenger side wheel was slightly buckled but got replaced by the dealer under warranty.

I feel like 86 prices will go up a bit since the new ones are so hideous (personal opinion ofc) and the whole E10 fuel thing will have a lot of older car owners looking for new. My mk2.5 mx5 ran like a bag of spanners on E10 and I cant see many older 'cheap' sports car owners willing to pay for the premium fuel, which is only not E10 for another 5 years, and not able to afford modern sports car prices which seem to start around 30-60k these days.

If I didn't actually like the car and want to keep it, I've probably got a healthy £4k profit in my BRZ since buying it last November. But whatever you gain you'd lose right away buying a replacement car, unless you go back down the ladder, or don't need another car at the moment. So it's all a bit academic really
Give it 18-24 months and things will start to get back to normal.

GT86 is better looking, IMO. Stock Vs stock, the GR86 seems like it might be a better car in pretty much every way. I'm certainly interested to try one and see how it compares to my SC'd GT86, it'd have to be pretty damn good for me to consider switching though.

I think its too soon to tell. Until we get to try the new car ourselves it’s impossible to make an informed decision. As much as I prefer the Gt86 inside and out.. the reviews generally all say the Gr86 is a much better car in every way.

Jay Bamrah reacted to AndyK in Can you increase HP without increasing torque
Similar to Martin, it came down to having instant torque delivery and general responsiveness. Car has plenty of low down grunt now, and power continues nicely higher in the revs. Ultimately, it's an expensive purchase either route (both transform the car) so if you don't have a clear preference in your mind perhaps give Abbey (I'd recommend these guys from my experience) or Fensport a call, and if their demo cars are avaliable it'll help you decide.
