Thank you Mike. That is very helpful indeed. I was struggling to think where to fit the front driver unit. I saw pictures somewhere where someone had fitted the rear driver unit into a cutout in the polystyrene boot liner. Although they fitted it heatsink side up I would still worry about putting something designed to be a hot heat sink into a material that is an insulator. I like your ideas much better.

I also saw the GPS very neatly fitted into one of the front dash speaker pods, under the mesh grill. That looks ideal as well as long as there’s no interference with picking up the requisite number of sat links.

I agree with you in that the overall job of fitting them is a pretty simple one. I’m looking forward to doing it. Also, after a mispent youth carrying out jobs on cars and motorcycles with zero planning I have turned into a ‘measure twice, cut once’ person now, especially when it comes to £800+ worth of kit.

If I make a good enough job of it I’ll make sure I take a bunch of photos for anyone else that decides to go the EDFC route in the future. I’d had the shocks and EDFC sitting on a shelf in the garage for a year and was desperate to get it fitted and working (just after I bought it all I came down with serious osteoarthritis problems in both knees which put me out of action for months).
I can’t wait to have it up and running properly before my next day at Goodwood, which I am planning for late Sept early Oct. I want to have a good amount of time to fully configure and fine tune it first so I spend less time messing with it at the track, and fit more sessions in.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at Japfest next year, and maybe even a track day meet if one happens sooner than that.

    Thanks Luke,
my main concern is not to attach the feed to a circuit not designed to handle the current requirements. The controller won’t draw much, so so the head unit feed will likely be more than enough. The front and rear driver units may well be drawing a bit more though.
I sent an email to Yukiko to ask her opinion so hopefully she’ll reply in the next day or two. I have to wait for the GPS sensor I only just ordered from Fensport in any case.

Great catch up, almost too many faces to catch with all. Either way it was nice to see everyone and have a nice day despite this Pandemic. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks Simon! Fab turnout of cars, great to be back at Fuel and to see all the lovely cars and their equally lovely owners 😀

The 35-40mm springs on the standard wheels will cause them to sit very far inside the wheel arch. You’ll probably want to add wheel spacers to pull the wheel and tyre to the edge of the arch.
Something else to bear in mind is that a 40mm drop will lose pretty much all of your damper travel, so the car will ride on the bump stops most of the time. Most springs with this drop will come with shorter bumpstops to give you some damper travel back I’d expect a very bumpy ride.
Its also worth noting that it will put more camber on the front and rear wheels so the tyres will wear on the inside and the rear toe angle will change less favourably.

I had mine lowered 40mm on coilovers which looked great, not good but not fun with speed bumps or getting a jack underneath or weaving around twigs in the road because you can drive around them anymore. Not to mention it put extra strain on the differential and driveshafts as the angle changes. You’ll hear it on full lock.
If you do high mileage then just be prepared to wear things out much quicker.
This is of course my opinion and experiences.
Whilst the springs are cheap other costs will be involved, camber bolts, new shocks sooner, less tyre life and higher mechanical wear.

That’s always a benefit of getting a good quality paint job. It’s always much thicker and therefore more durable than most manufacturers put on.

I’m personally glad that they’ve not switched to the new chassis with a turbo engine because I don’t think they’d get that sweet balancing chassis/ engine using one of the new modular Lego chassis that VAG group like to use to save a lot of money.
I’ve said that I would be happier if they just stopped making the car altogether because they set out to achieve what they wanted and it was always down to the owners/tuning companies to fettle with them as much as they pleased.

The boxer engine gives the BRZ/86 its character.  Putting in an anodyne in-line four would ruin its appeal, as far as I'm concerned.  BMW engines are great in BMWs.

I think another boxer engine would be a wrong move, could Toyota not fit the 2 ltr BMW engine to the new 86 it would seem the simple option.

Thank you. So then 240 bhp from a 2.4L minus 10 for PPF, Net 230 BHP.. I wish tuning was that simple against all the constraints. We now need to know the facts , than speculate on the back of rubbish articles from not trusted auto journalism

Would be fun if two Yaris 3 cylinder engines could be stitched together to form a short boxer 6, sitting right behind the front axle....

You might have bacteria building up in the a/c system. You can get a smoke device you let off in the car, with the a/c running, to neutralise it. Plus a new cabin filter.

I’m running 16x7 fox racing wheels that are 3kg lighter than the stock wheel and tyre setup.
Using a 205/55R16 Dunlop winter sports.
I think the car does ride better over the bumps and the unavoidable pot holes. The steering has lost a little of its initial turn in but once you get used to it the car feels more progressive from understeer to oversteer.

I do love the Alpine. Had a really good look at one at a car show, the attention to detail is very cool and I reckon if I had £50K to burn this is a real contender to the Supra. The Alpine has received excellent reviews all round. Think the BRZ stood up well though, uncomplicated and well sorted handling is something to savour I think.

@knightryder that manual literally just saved my marriage. Left the wife in the car whilst queuing in Homebase during covid 19 lockdown! Had an audience watching whilst I frantically tried to turn the alarm off. With pin codes, key in the door, bonnet up trying to pull fuses. Before a google search brought me hear again to my safe space sanctuary that is the GT86 bible.
    Thank you.
