Quixote reacted to Mark@Abbey M/S in ACE Header for RHD cars in @ Abbey Motorsport
Okay finally got our demo car back on our in house dyno last week;
Ran the ACE headers with the 250 collector in the over pipe; 350 collectors wont fit on our RHD cars at the moment Gave awesome top end numbers but still has the torque dip , seems the Yanks can have the 350 header on there LHD cars us RHD owners can have the 350 header yet......but it is being worked on; Couple of dyno plots for you guys; DONT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THE HEADER ON THE DYNO PLOTS it is FLYWHEEL bhp it is HUB BHP Stock car versus our car ACE 4-2-1 with 250 collector no 2nd cat and resonated Cobra exhaust system PURPLE ACE HEADER with 250 Merge collector/2nd cat de-cat pipe and Cobra Resonated system GREEN totally stock car PURPLE same as above YELLOW HKS HEADERS with the same set up after headers We say about 250 and 350 collectors the below picture shows the difference; We are waiting for a 350 collector designed for our RHD cars. we are getting there , the cal files can still be worked on to help output but these dyno plots give the general idea; -
Quixote got a reaction from Keethos in Euro Tour over the Austrian Alps, Dolomites and Swiss Alps
Well, after my trek across France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia (and then in reverse), I can officially state, Lauren you're horrible for recommending the Furka Pass - the ascent I did (videos will be uploaded at some point) was the most terrifying drive I've ever completed (including driving in blizzards around mountains!).
The descent was great and the Grimsel pass is well worth doing.
I didn't have time for susten this time, unfortunately, but will consider it for my route planning next year
You're 100% correct about Stelvio it's a bit zzzzz
However, I will add the road east from Bolzano to San Pellegrino Pass is awesome (another vid to be uploaded).
I didn't see a single GT86 or BRZ on the whole trip, but, I did have many nice comments about the car and a lot of double takes!
Last year, I did a different route through Germany, Austria then Italy, Slovenia to Croatia (same destination as I'm visiting the outlaws there!)...I drove the Q7 that time and thought it would be hard to beat as a car for cruising.
However, I think the GT86 is better - it's not great when the road surface is crap - the Q is much better there, but for everything else, it's just so nimble and direct. I am glad I've got sticky tyres and some minor tweaks to the suspension (more camber) as this really helped my confidence on some of the twisty mountain roads.

For the tag for peage, check out: http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/traveller-info/sanef-tolling/ saves €10 application fee
It still costs extra, but when we over at easter, all the tag lanes were clear and the pay lanes had queues...(so I'm hoping the same again as Saturday 25th will be busy!)
For me, it's great as we'll be heading over in the "panzer" with the kids a few times over the next year, and the tag is transferable to other vehicles (so don't leave it in the car!)

Quixote reacted to Nicebiscuit in MICHELIN CrossClimate
What opened my eyes is that I left it too late one year - it snowed and then froze - so I slithered the 400 yards to my friendly local tyre fitter - swapped them over and then simply drove back. The difference was incredible.
Worst thing about winter tyres? Twice now I've driven into an icy work car park - parked up with no drama, opened the door, stepped out and fallen flat on my backside.... :-D

I'm going to caveat the following with the observation that our views may well differ because you're clearly a very skilled driver, and I most certainly am not...
Do you not think that even Nurburgring tuned cars are still a little stiff for quick progress on British roads, certainly in the hands of an average driver? Personally I've always felt quicker with softer set ups, simply because its predictable so even I can drive at 9/10ths whereas a stiffer and gripper set up means I back off for fear of not being able to cope with a 'moment' at the limit.
To put in context - possibly the fastest point-to-point car I've driven (in my hands) was some relatively exotic variant of Impreza STi (I forget which exactly). Its set up was relatively compliant, very benign and I could instantly drive twice as fast in it. In fact it was so competent I decided there and then never to buy one, as 'fast' became so easy and normal that I might as well have shredded my license there and then.... :-)

Quixote reacted to keelerad in Using Race Render to add data to videos
Next video is the way I normalize any video from any device to end up as a 720p mp4 file, this means that all my input videos I use in Race Render are always the same format, so any custom setup I do in Race Render to match the screen size will still be OK every time.
You don't have to do this step, but it's also a good way of archiving your videos so if you ever want to go back and redo it you know you will still have access to the original source.
I'm not going to explain how you upload videos from your device to youtube, if you don't already know how to do that then google an answer, go away upload a few and come back here once you've worked that out.
Basically I use youtube and a Firefox youtube downloader to do this pre-processing, this can be added to Firefox from here
https://github.com/gantt/downloadyoutube
There is another downloader that can possibly do higher quality vids here but I haven't tried it yet
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-video-and-audio-dow/
By letting youtube do the conversion for you, you won't risk any of the nasties associated with a lot of free video editing software you might consider downloading, doing this way lets youtube do all the donkey work and you don't end up with adware or viruses on your computer.
Once you have the add on installed (it's easy follow the instructions on the link above) you can download a 720p version of anything from youtube to your computer as a 720p mp4 file (Initial-D, Wheeler Dealers, whatever you can find as well as in car vids)
Ok so now we have covered how to get a video in a standard format and a torque trip log file onto your computer, the next step is to combine them.
The Race Render software I use for this was recommended to me by Rob after seeing my complicated attempts to produce closed caption subtitle files to overlay videos. I can guarantee you Race Render is much simpler and produces a lot better results.
So the video starts assuming you have :
1. Installed the software from http://racerender.com/RR3/Features.html (there is a free trial version that lets you try it out but has some features disabled)
Note there are both Windows and OSX versions of this software, the example video below is done using the Mac version but the Windows version is very similar (if you pay for a licence you can actually install and run both versions off the same licence code if you have both systems)
2. Got your tracklog.csv file onto your computer (see vid 1 above for a suggested method)
3. Got a valid video file onto your computer (if you can upload it to you tube you can use the method in vid 3 above to download a 720p mp4 version)
I don't use anything above the standard options in the example, in real life I have saved my own prefererred screen layouts and data config maps that I use, but the example vid shows what you can do very simply with just the std options
Any comments/questions/suggestions add them below

Quixote reacted to keelerad in Using Race Render to add data to videos
OK I have had a few people ask about how to add data to in car videos, the way I do it is to use the data logged in the torque app and an app called Race Render 3.
To give people some hints on how to do it I've produced a few videos, a couple to show how to select what to log in Torque and how to send the log files to your computer.
Then one to show how to download a video from youtube to a standard 720p mp4 format, by standardising your video input that you are going to use in race render it means that any customisation you do based on a screen size will be valid every time.
Then a video showing the basics of how to combine the two in Race Render and export the finished video back to youtube
So first video how to get Torque map trip logs off your phone to your computer
This will send an e-mail with an attached zip file that contains a tracklog.csv data file, you can open this in excel or open office to see all the data points you have to play with, but you don't need to
This video is just to show where you can see what PIDs you have configured to be logged in Torque, if it's not in the list it won't be in the log file so you won't be able to add it to your video. The screen I demonstrate in the video is showing the data points I have set up to log, to add more use the 3 dots menu top right.

Sprintex has been sold on to a customer.
In N/A trim only reason to go forged is to gain capacity.
Nigel that's good info I presume they have only added new duration to the cam spec?

Kethos, think we will use a HKS V2 for some FI development think we can push these motors for some big numbers with a centrifugal charger.
N/A tuning I want to see what the manifolds available actually show on our in house dyno.

Quixote got a reaction from DaveB in Turbo advice
For a scooby with an OEM setup, check the T hoses from the charged air to the wastegate actuator and the boost control solenoid.
If there's a leak there, it will cause over boosting as this is the boost control mechanism
However, doesn't explain why it only happens when cold...

A German lorrry driver in a Newcastle pub is gobbing off about how lazy British truck drivers are.
He's bragging that he drives his load from Hamburg, goes through Holland, Belgium, up to Newcastle and back to Hamburg in two days.
This old Geordie man mutters "Ah, way-ay, man.... I used to pick up me load in Newcastle, drop off in Hamburg and be back in Newcastle for a fish and chip supper the same day"
The gobby German trucker retorts " Oh ja? vot rig were you driving zen? Scania, Mercedes, vot?
After taking a long swig of his pint of Newcastle Brown Ale the old fella replies :
" Naw, man ......... a Lancaster ! "

Quixote got a reaction from faith in Surrey Meet - Sunday 8th March
That's a West Sussex meet not a Surrey meet...
I'll take a look and see if I can make it, but, earlier on Sundays is better so you get out on the good roads before all the Sunday drivers
The Brecons meet was early but it paid off with no traffic on the roads for some good fun

Interesting part is: The Highways Agency confirmed to MailOnline they pay £150,000 per site to install the equipment and· £25,000 per site per year to maintain the equipment.
So we could save money and have more police employed to help prevent real crime by not spending stupid money on cameras...

Thanks for the link to the route...for those who are mobile, here's an image
Speed which remained within the speed limit, of course, but there was a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear action
175 miles of fun plus the boring 160 miles to/from the area explain why I got through a tank of fuel!

Hey Lins thanks for posting the map, now I know why I burnt through so much fuel, or could it have been to do the speed we were driving.

Had such an awesome day yesterday! Great to meet you Simon and Chris. Love the photos. I have a couple on my camera, will try and get them up at some point.
Hopefully this link will work if you copy paste the whole thing. I reckon we did almost 200 miles yesterday, with only a couple navigation mistakes! Highlights being the B4235 to Usk, B4520 between Brecon and Builth Wells and A4067 through Glyntawe to Abercraf. Lovely views, even better roads.

Great trip around some fantastic roads today, and the scenery was amazing! Some interesting "traffic" to negotiate at certain times...some might say there was a "Welsh Harem" in the road!!! The starting point Aust. Services around 8am A pause somewhere at the end of a great road! Then another break to take in some more scenery... And some from the lunch stop - a pub with pukka chips! And then the long drive home...not a bad day - left home at 6:30am, back again around 5:30ish
