Deacon 1357 Report post Posted June 27, 2016 Came across this brochure giving full details of the MY2017 Brz - mainly based on the US market but with details of RoW cars too. The 86 will presumably be almost identical. 17MY_BRZ_1.pdf 3 Kal, Cal and sxocpaul reacted to this

Simonnnn 2 Report post Posted June 27, 2016 "The fuel pump has been changed to a DENSO next-generation unit (R/C planned for 16MY)" Fix for chirping, or is this the same "upgraded pump" which some have had & made no difference?
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 27, 2016 Blimey there are a hell of a lot of changes. Took me ages to go through that. Interesting about turning the stability control off now disables the 'LSD brake' function. Not sure exactly what that is, but presumably some application of the brakes dependent upon speed differences or somesuch between the LSD? But also a ton of other changes from LED headlights, to strengthening of the engine block, lower friction camshafts and also changes to the induction. I will of course test one when RRG get one in as I would be interested to note the differences.

Rich 378 Report post Posted June 28, 2016 Anyone else spot that the final drive is now 4.3:1? Interesting change! EDIT: A closer inspection shows that Europe isn't getting that change. 1 Special K reacted to this

EDIT: A closer inspection shows that Europe isn't getting that change. The FD change was the obvious way to improve acceleration (a requirement for a facelift these days) without any major change in engine power. I would be shocked if we don't get the 4.3 FD here, although that sheet would suggest that it's true.

Interesting about turning the stability control off now disables the 'LSD brake' function. Not sure exactly what that is, but presumably some application of the brakes dependent upon speed differences or somesuch between the LSD? Yes exactly. The torsen LSD only works properly when both wheels have sufficient grip. In the worst case if you lift a wheel it's essentially an open diff. At that point the ecu applies the brake to the spinning wheel and transfers the power back to the wheel on the ground. Special K 442 Report post Posted July 8, 2016 We chatted about this at the Essex meet this evening. Not sure I agree with Knightryder - that torque dip is accentuated and is a huge weakness which I hoped would be addressed in this annual upgrade - obviously 'annual' in Japanese means 4 years development and 1 year 'let everyone know'. Like? - stronger block with redesigned pistons/rods plus plus plus. New petrol pump. Half-decent rear wing. Subtle styling changes rather than the anticipated "whole body redesign" (which would have made current model's value plummet like a stone) Dislike? - no 'high performance' version using the Toyo collaboration with Cosworth. Nothing to address the global demand for increased power. And these 'upgrades' are all aimed at the manual pudding stirrers, nothing to address the auto paddle pushers. A great shame, a little more concentration on a DCT version of the autotrans would galvanise their global market, as the current version is a poor attempt, in my opinion. Kodename47 446 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 9 hours ago, Special K said: that torque dip is accentuated No, it's not. The reason the torque dip is felt is that BHP drops due to the loss of torque. Look at the new BHP graph, it doesn't drop. You wouldn't notice it, especially on the ones with a 4.3 FD. 9 hours ago, Special K said: nothing to address the auto paddle pushers. A great shame, a little more concentration on a DCT version of the autotrans would galvanise their global market, as the current version is a poor attempt, in my opinion. Toyota/Subaru don't do a DCT, it's too heavy for this platform too I'd imagine. However, as per PH: The god-awful automatic doesn't get these power and torque boosts, so right-minded sorts will of course still avoid the so-called '6 Super ECT' unit. There's something interesting here though: Toyota also lists a '6 SPDS' gearbox in the price list, of which it currently makes no mention of in the update details. SPDS is, a la Lexus IS F, 'sport direct shift', which in the rorty V8 uses torque converter lock-up in second gear and above to speed up shifts. It blips on downshifts as well, and has paddleshifts. Is this coming to the revised GT86 and might we at last consider something other than the manual? One to watch. 1 richardcarman reacted to this
Tareim 343 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 so they have changed the auto box? might be a bit more reliable for FI then
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 1 minute ago, Tareim said: so they have changed the auto box? might be a bit more reliable for FI then I can't see why they would. It would require significant re-working to make it able to handle another 100bhp, but for the stock engine it's fine.
Tareim 343 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 perhaps Toyota have been browsing all of the various forums to see what issues people have been getting with FI on the standard box, going to the isf box (possibly using all 8 gears as well) should be helpful in making it more reliable to handle that power like the isf delivers
Test Drives Unlimited 278 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 Also there forth coming Supra would have to have an Auto Option made available for some Markets,so perhaps it would make sense to make available across the range !! Lauren 2259 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 That will be far more specialised though, Nigel with a corresponding price tag to match. There is no way the FT1 will have an auto box with paddles on the steering wheel.
