Tweedbean reacted to Ja5on in Orange 86
Hi Guys, My wife has decided that it is time to sell up and move on from the 86. The car was bought from Aberdeen Toyota in November 2012 and has covered 15,000 miles since then.
Non Nav, Alacantara interior. The car has always been washed with snow foam and then the two bucket method
As you can see from the list below the car has and a few modifications done and is an absolute hoot to drive.

Quick photoshop stripe idea with three stripes, I like the vertical trim under the stereo painted aswell.

Keethos, for a little inspiration here are a couple of dashes from my old minis. I wanted something that was different and the mini has a similar flat dash you can paint, wrap etc to the 86.
Stripes, as you mentioned above can work:

I also had alcantara with coloured stitching to match the stripes:

All done to match the exterior at the time:

Then in the clubman I went for more subtle but effective with a mix of alcantara and leather, highlighted with red stitching. Also you can see my custom gauges. I am having this done in my GT86 or something similar:

Tweedbean reacted to rob275 in BRZ and GT86 fenders/wings the same?
Yes they are the same, it's the bumpers that are slightly different around the lights.

Tweedbean reacted to Gudzy in Gudzy's GT86
So I bought the car from Tweedbean on the forum with a few mods already in place.
Lowered (roughly 50mm) on Tein Flex Z coilovers
18" Gold BBS RSII wheels. with Vredstein Sessanta tyres.
P3 Vent gauge and code reader.
Alcantara interior.
BRZ side vents.
Engine bay had been tidied and some parts painted in VHT red.
Silvertec bulbs.
Plastidipped front bumper.
Yellow fog lights.
So having had the car for a day, I had to change something to make it my own. So, I've started small and changed the rear number plate lights to LEDs as I had some spares that were the same fitment. No before picture for you but here's how it looks now.
I've got a few plans for the car so far, the first being fitting some adjustable front drop links as there aren't any on the car at the moment. I'll likely need to raise the suspension a bit too as it'll be my daily driver. Then fitting the Borla UEL and scorpion overpipe that came with it, along with a backbox which I haven't purchased yet. I'm currently considering the Cobra resonated or the Invidia N1 (I like the idea of the bungs to quieten it down every now and then) and I have a scorpion resonated decat to go on if that isn't loud enough, my Nissan 350z is pretty loud with a cobra non-res and unsilenced decats but I'd like this to be at least a little bit civilized and to pass trackday noise tests.
I also plan on having the roof wrapped black and possibly the boot to match how my previous car looked. Some buddy club rear lights could be nice too.
Then there is always some sort of turbo or supercharger to think about for in the future...

Tweedbean got a reaction from Keethos in tweedbean's GT86
As some of you may have seen on Facebook, I am back in a MINI after only 6 months of owing a GT86. The 86 was a great car but I just wasn't into it like I should be. With my best friend losing his battle with cancer last week I learnt that life is too short and that I needed to change things if they weren't right and this is when my search started last Wednesday for a MINI.
Here is the last picture of my 86 as I delivered it to the new owner:
I was looking at two options either a GP1 or and R53 and a second car. I was avoiding a 2nd gen MINI due to the issues I had with the Clubby and I hadn't considered an F56 until I saw R99's F56 Cooper S for sale on Thursday. With this I forgot all about the GP's and R53's I had looked at and got straight on the phone to R99, a member of another forum I am on. I then spent the night researching F56's and what was available for them. At the same time I put the GT86 up for sale modified and sold it within 3 days. This meant I had the funds to purchase R99's F56, again one phone call later and I was planning my trip to Newcastle to pick it up. That was one hell of a journey but so worth it. Not only was the car fully spec'd from the factory, its was also loaded with lots of aftermarket parts, pretty much everything you can do to a F56 at the moment. As its me, I wont be leaving this car like this for long, I want to build on the great work by R99 and add my own stamp. After cleaning the car for the first time today I can say I do like the look of the white wheels and roof, but oh my god white wheels are a nightmare to clean so I feel these may change at some point.
The F56 is a marmite car, just like the R56 when it first came out, some people are going to love it, others wont. I wasn't a big fan but seeing/driving this one I would advise you drive one before making up your mind. And that front end isn't photogenic I know but it looks great in the flesh. Tempted to do a little bit of debadging aswell on the rear end, its a shame that JCW one is moulded into the front grill, I may refit the Cooper S grill and switch the red trim onto that.
This engine, a new BMW 2.0 turbo unit has plenty of tuning potential, with people seeing 300bhp from just a remap, I cant wait to see what will be available in 6-12 months time as this car is still relatively new.
One thing for sure, this thing sounds epic, the exhaust has a remote control to switch between loud and quiet mode, although I can see that remote not being used too ofter
I wish everyone the best with their builds on here and I will be popping back to keep an eye on Nige's build for sure.
Spec from factory:
The car was built to the following factory spec and it would seem R99 ticked every box he could (costing £27,462 when new):

The car when new was professionally detailed which consisted of a 2-stage machine polish and the GTechniq treatment on both the exterior & interior. It is clear it has been well looked after.
Pictures:
I haven't had chance to take any of my own just yet so I hope R99 doesn't mind me using his:

Tweedbean got a reaction from Keethos in For Sale - 13 plate GT86 Manual Sat Nav
Over on the owners club, I will let them announce who they are.
I want to thank everyone on here for their support over the last 6 months. The 86 is a great car but a death of a good friends this week has taught me to go with my heart and do what feels right. I will pop back when I collect my new car Thursday to show you the replacement.

The sound is certainly different! Dan Ztox followed me down to TDI yesterday and he said it still sounded very loud, but there is no drone on the motorway and off boost it is quite restrained. On boost however it is still very loud so it has created a kind of Jekyll and Hyde personality. Do I miss the UEL rumble? Kind of, but an extra 100 odd horsepower is awesome consolation.

So here are the results after a long day custom mapping at TDI in Thurrock. Sam and Mark there were brilliant and I will be definitely going back
Stock internals, stock fuel pump and injectors, running at 7 psi. Pulled back the ignition timing advance a little bit for long term reliability but very happy with the results.
265hp at the wheels (around 310 at the crank)
210 lbs ft at the wheels from 4500rpm

Tweedbean reacted to Pitman in Pitman's Toyota Sprint Series car
Progress is slowly being made on the build
I have finally removed all the excess seam sealer from inside the shell, as well as temporally fitting the steering column, brake and pedal box and gear shift so that I could finalise the seat position, and fit the seat mounts. I started by having the seat virtually on the floor, but it was impossible to see out of the car . With a lot of packing up of the seat a bit at a time, I believe I have now found the best position. The seat can now come out again, and I can weld in the seat mounting rails and brackets.
I have also got my custom brake disc bells and caliper mounting brackets back from Reyland Motorsport, so can finalise the front suspension, including my fully adjustable lower 'wishbones'
To be continued .........................................

Tweedbean reacted to smudge in Smudge's supercharged V8 build
Been an exciting (but expensive!) few days ordering parts in preparation for the build
Mark at Abbey has been a star in answering all my questions and guiding me through this with his extensive knowledge. The car will is booked to go in for the work on 17th August where we will be installing:
- HKS 2.1l stroker kit (pistons, rods and crank)
- HKS cams
- HKS 1.0mm head gasket
- HKS heat grade 9 spark plugs
- Upgraded Walbro fuel pump
- Upgraded oil pump
- Asnu 500cc injectors
- Setrab 16 row oil cooler
- Xtreme HD clutch
- Xtreme lightweight flywheel
- ARP engine and head bolts
- Moroso sump baffle plate
And most importantly...
- Sprintex 335 supercharger!
The 210 kit was great and will shortly find a new home with a new forum member. It's done me so very well for almost a year but I want bigger and louder!
I appreciate the 335 isn't to everyone's liking due to more efficient systems such as the HKS v2 and some new developments like the Harrop and Cosworth, but I like to be different and that whine is just stupidly addictive
Mark and the Abbey team will need the car for a number of weeks which means she may not be ready for JAE
Watch this space people!

Tweedbean reacted to smudge in Smudge's supercharged V8 build
Finally, some success today!
Front brakes on, AP Racing 6 pots with 362mm discs
Which JUST fit over the 18" alloys
So pleased with them. I can't wait to get my proper wheels on and get shot of these temporary ones
Unfortunately, we had a other problem with the rears. Despite filing the paint off the mounting surface of the calipers
The disc was still catching the inside of the caliper and actually part of the metal around the handbrake shoe as well. After getting the micrometer out and measuring the bores, the EBC discs I bought were slightly out and we're slipping into a lip which is designed to hold the disc in place, making it sit inside too far into the hub and catching the caliper. You can see the lip on the hub in the picture below
So after a lengthy call to EBC it turns out I've been sent the wrong discs and we need to get GD1511 which is only in 5x114.3...so I'm on the hunt for the dual-drilled DBA's but they are so hard to find in stock anywhere! Might just get the correct EBC discs and get them redrilled...
So I got home half happy with my day. Fronts look and feel fantastic, rears...not so much. 3rd time lucky next time!

There was never a mission statement, but I don't believe in such things, it's a bit of an outdated fad in my opinion.
In a nutshell, there were a number of us that wished for the other forum to become a non-profit organisation using the forum income to help provide and fund events for members. They didn't want to do that, so we setup our own club which is a non-profit limited company to limit our liability.
We were then banned from the other club the moment we became directors. That's it.
The directors are:
Me
Rob
Keith
Alec
Spec K is club secretary, but not a director.
We decided to setup our own club at Japfest 2013. I am already a director of another club, IMOC-UK, so I knew about how to set it up and run it.
