I must say that from an automotive engineering point of view, I pretty much agree with Nige.  Whilst the jigging used to assemble modern cars is pretty sophisticated, the reality is, you are always going to get a level of variation.  The process of welding will always introduce a level of distortion, which has to be compensated for.  From my experience of setting up welding assemblies (using robots to do the critical welding to minimise any variation) very often parts were assembled loose 'out of spec', so that, once the welding was completed, it would pull into specification.  Despite this, you have to allow for tolerances, usually with one datum mounting point.  By fitting these bushes to remove this allowance, you will almost certainly introduce a pre-set strain in the bushes.  I also get a bit sceptical about the claim of the parts being made out of some 'secret blend of space materials'  What is it, a blend of Moon rock and Mars dust?

I'm half tempted....but do I really want to throw 13k at the GT86?
Before you say "It's only 5k" let me say that the only mod I have at the moment are my wheels.
So will need a zorst(1k), this charger(5k) and inevtably a BBK (and I fancy ap 6 pots up front(2k) and ap 4 pots(2k) at the back- i try not to do anything by halves)then probably a set of coilovers (ohlins(3k) are my favoured brand here)....so all in all 13k required to devalue my GT86 by how much?

Is the cash burning a hole in my wallet?....well it's smouldering a little....

Edit: but it would be nice to find a way to do all this a bit more cheaply

    Keith,

The reason for the adjustable drop links is exactly as you say, in order to maintain the neutral position of the ARB arms, when you change the ride height of the car

Well, considering Adrian has specifically built a race gt86 and Mark has merely fitted the charger for road going purposes as a demo it's not exactly the greatest comparison of the century is it? More-over, if Mark did compete he would clearly be in F2. Stick Adrian in Keiths car, that's a little fairer.. after all, Adrian tuned that

As it happens there is no "best" tuner. Lets treat them as races, we are all equal

Obviously my car has been extensively re-mapped, however if I turn the air con off, then the idle is rock steady.  With the air con on, the idle revs drop slightly every time the clutch on the air con compressor engages, as you would expect.

So, solution to the erratic idle issue - fit a turbo, and get Adrian to re-map you car properly

Just to clarify something on Pitman's excellent post, updated Port injectors are available in the aftermarket but not the Direct Injectors...

I am sure our Sprintex fan club will be along shortly to answer your questions.

For street use only, I would not think that an oil cooler would be that necessary.  Best thing to do is monitor your oil temp via Torq, and see what readings you are getting.  I have an oil temp / pressure gauge on my car (and an oil cooler), and my oil temp on the road rarely gets higher than the opening temp of the oil thermostat.

As far as the DW injectors are concerned, I don't believe that the standard injector duty cycles should be stretched with a street map on the SC.  Who is going to do the mapping for you?  Best to ask them.
The D4S uses both port and direct injectors, the trick to really good mapping is to get the balance right between the two.  As far as I know, no one has yet released an after market direct injector for our cars, never mind a higher flow one.

    Update time!

Having had a look at the availability of MR2s, and having had a loooong chat with Adrian @ Fensport, my initial thought of a Yaris is the way forward .  By all accounts (and as suggested by Lauren above), the Mk2 MR2 (however nice it looks) is not the right vehicle for my purpose.

I really appreciate the suggestions re the MR2 option, but for what I want, and future upgradeability, the Yaris is definitely the right way to go.  As far as a Yaris being 'boring', I am sure that, if I ask her nicely, Faith will help me to develop the appropriate stickers

MR2's are cheap and you will learn a lot, MK2s being the easiest option, plus they are worth nothing. Pete Mason pedals his round pretty well. Otherwise you're looking at ST205 Celica's which are okay if you sort the handling. You can compete with Richard too!

Richard got his Celica for £500. MK2 MR2's are around the same money.
