Just read the finals, for those travelling down the afternoon before Javelin are at the circuit from around 17:30 so maybe it would be wise to get scrutineered then (they've said its ok) would then save a bit of time for them in the morning and give those making mag boards a bit of extra...

Just an idea but it's what I'm planning on doing

For those that do sign on and then head for the PI = grab your stickers and mag them at the hotel. I will have everything there and it's a damn sight easier to do in a hotel room than at the circuit!

I hope to be there by 7.30pm (I have a meeting to attend tomorrow and canot get away from Essex until 6.00ish). If people want to do it this way I will get all the stuff into my room and you can do it on the floor (oooh! missus!)

Was just about to ask that Keith - if they're allowing scruitneering, I imagine they'll have the stickers there as well?

Considering it's supposed to be wet and windy, it'll definitely be easier in a hotel!

Yes, Mike. They must be there (unless certain sponsors are bringing them on the day) but you don't need them for scrute, you'll get a sticker on your windscreen to verify approval.

Let's hope Javelin unpack them for distribution..

The 100 circuit is not conveniently located for using the garages but it may be an idea to try and grab one for the Club for comfort reasons. So, if you're one of the first there on Saturday please ask Javelin if we can have one - it's a good place to store stuff out of your boot, somewhere to put tools etc.

And,  when the weather gets grim, the spectators can huddle in there to relieve the boredom of watching you girlies mince around the track...

(Update)

My autotrans problems have now been diagnosed (by Andy Frost of Penn Motors, top motorsport autotrans specialist in the UK, and a really nice guy to boot).

Remedial action starts as soon as a new seal kit can be obtained. Probably next week for seals, looking to complete rebuild within two weeks. Needs new clutches (which I had already bought from the States, allegedly uprated, so no delays there..)

According to Andy the autotrans is a weak as a whore's promise and he believes it is unable to take the power that my engine is producing, even with the uprated torque converter and valve assembly. Main problem, however, appears to be heat - the rear trans oil cooler will cope with Sprint runs but trackdays are taking it beyond the norm (it was probably Oulton Park that cooked it but we don't know..)

We don't know what that power is 'cos Adrian couldn't map it but anything approaching 400bhp (with torque to match) is way beyond design load.

So - it's my choice whether to run it and risk another failure or use it on Sundays to weed my gravesite...

.. hmm..choices, choices... what would you do..?

No way Keith, go get a sequential straight cut 'box. Please don't talk about dressing your grave, live life on the edge!!

Is there an alternative transmission available that will take the power Keith?

Rich - I discussed this with Andy and there is an alternative that he can build up for me.

However, it would be a four-speed auto without manual (paddle) option, require a custom made input shaft, fabricated bellhousing adaptor and one-off prop shaft and would need a significant amount of re-mapping the ECU (in areas which have not been unlocked by Ecutek or anyone else).

It would also require new fabricated brackets and propshaft tunnel/floor mods (this would, of course, require stripping out the floor interior, wiring loom, hydraulics, etc. etc.)

If I win the Lottery I might think about it....

Nigel - it has crossed my mind.

However, my ECU is specific for the autotrans and to put a manual 'box in would require a manual ECU.... which would have to be completely re-coded to my existing car and is a hugely complex undertaking, according to Adrian.

It could be done if I was to dedicate the car solely to the track, as per Adrian and Stan, but my whole idea is to remain the top autotrans GT86 streetcar in the UK/Europe

Additionally I could not live with the noise ! The footage/soundtrack of Chris in the GPRM Britcar at Brands gave an indication - on the road I would be deaf as a post within five miles... on its own  I reckon it would fail a drive-by noise test at some of the circuits!

Adrian and I have agreed, in consultation with Andy, a basic agenda of mods which we hope will mitigate the overriding transmission problem - heat generation and retention - with repositioned engine and trans oil coolers (I lose my foglights and headlight washers), new temp sensor in the transmission sump and a new temp guage in the front o/s fresh air vent (which will scream and throw a bucket of cold water over me if it exceeds limit....)

And I must make it clear that these are my decisions and mine alone. The possible shortcomings have been explained to me and I will hold no-one, least of all Andy at Penn Motors and Adrian at Fensport, in any way at fault should this all go t*ts up.

Logic dictates that the car will be good for Sprints - they've got a 600bhp GT86 auto dragster in the States - it is my love of trackdays that is the issue and that is for me to come to terms with. The car was faultless at last year's Sprints with 320bhp so it's up to me when/if I decide to change map, up the boost and bring in the cavalry...

Currently writing from a PI in Birmgingham. I reckon I coud get over to Snett, well Thetford for 2-3pm easily. Trouble is, that's a bit early for scrutineering. I'd rather be in the bar at 5.30pm, so I think I may well leave it all tomorrow. Will see how I get on.

I suppose if people do go over for scrutineering and there are some stickers and all that there, perhaps bringing a load back to hotel gives others the opportunity to do their's?
