Okay the first car I really fell in love was the Toyota ST165 Celica GT-Four and its dominance in the WRC
Driven by the legend Carlos Sainz in the WRC in 1990-1991

Then it was replaced by the Toyota ST185 Celica GT-Four WRC 1992-1994 Along with the Castrol livery
Driven by Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankkunen, Didier Auriol,

And finally the Toyota ST205 Celica GT-Four

The Castrol-sponsored ST205 Celica GT-Four, introduced in late-1994, was the fantasy machine for the Sega computer-game generation. Although it was  disqualified from the World Rally Championship in 1995 following a scandal surrounding turbo air restrictors, the car became one of the most universally loved Japanese competition machines yet seen. If you were a car-kid in the 1990s, you knew all about this turbocharged, bewinged, bug-eyed Celica.

This is a great compilation video of the ST165 & ST185, listen to that sound mmmmmm

chillismoke reacted to Quickclicknick in Hello and greetings from Essex - I'm the owner from new of a black BRZ
    Hello All,

Last November I succumbed to a second (or maybe third) mid life crisis, the quest to try and remind myself on a daily basis what it was like driving the Sylva kitcar that I built at the start of the 90's.

This is the first new car I have ever bought, having had company cars and then a string of nearly new Alfas under my belt. I have had bikes too, my most bonkers bike being a Y2K Aprilia RSV Mille (I wonder where that is now).

...and so the BRZ has around 6000 miles on it now, running it in over a wet weekend in Wales was a revelation. My outgoing Alfa GT 3.2 never handled like that!

Now I am thinking about some small tweaks....maybe. So far i have just ditched the noise pipe thing and put a Mishimoto hose between the throttle body and the filter. The kit car has a shiny Momo gear knob and so I just had to get something like it for the BRZ. A Richbrook Classic Ball is close enough.

I changed the oils myself at 1000 miles - Motul 8100 Eco-lite 0W-20 for the engine and Redline MTL for the gearbox. (This has been a great mod and instantly made the shift MUCH sweeter).

That's it for now, I just wanted to say hello and that I may well be tapping you lot for info...

    Cheers

    Nick

After 3 weeks of '86 ownership finally seen another one.

This afternoon on the dual track around Huntingdon heading towards the A1/A14 junction, I came up behind a red 14 plater.
Gave him a flash and a wave before he went A14 and I went southbound A1 (he did wave back) -

......nice to see you if you read this.

A few minutes earlier as I was exiting another roundabout I caught a glimpse of what could have been an '86/BRZ - but it was so highly modded I can't be sure.

BTW - gotta love that A1 slip road - once you get off the roundabout at the bottom it goes all straight up a nice gradient and it's usually quiet so you can give it the beans before hitting the A1 at the top.

Rob - The issue, as I stated, was more the fact that Lauren seemed to be making out that what I wanted to do was "wrong", just because it's not what she would do. At the end of the day, we are all in different situations and all have different priorities. As I've said multiple times, making my car handle really well isn't a priority. I like the way it handles, and if I could keep the character, but enhance it slightly with springs, bushes and ARBs as I did with my last car, then that suits me down to the ground. I don't care if someone else's car could beat mine around track, my intention isn't to make a race car, but to make a fun car, and fully adjustable, expensive coilovers aren't required for fun.

I'll also point out that I didn't ask for advice about coilovers vs springs. I said from the beginning what my intentions were, and without knowing my goals for the car, was told that I was wrong straight away. The closest I got to asking for advice was, "Maybe someone can try to convince me otherwise, but please try to avoid the typical forum opinions of "springs are pointless, coilovers or nothing", which I've already covered." Regarding the last bit, that's basically all that was said, even though I asked for people to avoid it.

Anyway, I'm not carrying on now. Wasn't my intention to start any drama here, just to get some advice as to when I should do each stage of modification, which I got, so thanks to everyone for that.

Spec K: Thanks for summing everything up in a much more meaningful way. You're exactly right. You and Lauren have setups which allows you to adjust your car's behaviour depending on where you're driving. Clearly for you two, spending all that money was worth it, as having that luxury was a priority for you. Adjustability and flexibility in suspension is not a priority for me. As I said, I've done the whole coilovers thing in the past, and found that I never made the most of them, so thought they were a waste of money for the kind of driving I do. Maybe at some point in the future I'll change my mind, but I can cross that bridge when I come to it. As of right now, I would rather NOT delay all my other plans for the car just for the sake of "maybe" changing my mind.

As for your manifold comments, I appreciate the feedback a lot. I have only ever taken my car to one place for exhaust work (Prospeed Exhausts in Cardiff). Charlie does amazing work. When I went to do the secondary decat (which he did for £100), he offered to do me a full 2.5" cat back system with twin 4.5" slash cut tailpipes, and some special design silencer that helps bring out the boxer burble (no idea, just what I can remember) for £450. He also said he could do me a UEL catted header for £550. He does UEL headers for various flat four engines quite often, and mentioned to me that I should do it, rather than the other way around.

For the above reasons, I've never bought a prebuilt exhaust, nor indeed any part of a prebuilt exhaust, as I just let Charlie do his thing, but I could be persuaded to change my mind when it comes to manifolds, as honestly, I don't really know where to begin.

    Right.

Been down to JPs this morning. Got the car on the lift and went through things. Basically you can have whatever you want. They will and can make anything. The quality of the work is really exceptional from the examples shown to me.

I was quoted £890 for a resonated full primary system custom made on the day and fitted. Similar configuration to the Milltek system. Takes one full day to make and fit it.

Since the weather was a little better today, I decided to lose the TOYOTA and GT86 badges from the back of the car. No idea who came up with the bright idea to have 3 chrome badges in such a small area... CLUTTER!
    Looks MUCH better IMHO.

I guess it might be worth a mod moving this thread to projects? Got a feeling I have a lot of new parts arriving in the not too distant future for this

Wolverhampton Independent Subaru are hosting an event at Curborough Sprint circuit on August 31st to raise money for a local charity. I've put the link below:-

    https://www.facebook.com/events/1631641493759948/

There is no cost involved to have a stand but they ask for donations for the charity. You can also book either a half day or full day track time (just waiting for them to get back to me with the costs for this) or single laps (min donation £3 each). There are prizes for best cars, stands, etc and traders their including the local Mazda dealer with the new MX5.

I think it'd make a decent club meet as it's so central -anyone fancy it?
