James18 got a reaction from AJ124 in Incoming Part Out
@AJ124 I’ll double check for you over the weekend when I take the standard boot off, no damage that I can remember

James18 got a reaction from Deacon in James' '86 Build
I never got round to finishing my posts for this build and the car kind of fell behind some other projects. But as I’m now considering selling up for an upgrade there’s a final update on this post from me - potentially a big part out coming soon!
Since the last post, after a trip to Autosport before Covid shut everything down, I ordered a Corbeau RRB seat with custom TRD coloured stitching which I am still to this day extremely pleased with. Daily comfort has not been sacrificed and the seat holds me in place just how I wanted. It also looks great. Schroth Rally 3 ASM harnesses in all black to go with if I ever got round to doing a track day (will be gutted if the car goes without ever seeing a track!)
MOT time came around so I needed a fog light for the Rocket Bunny diffuser, I went with the FIA style light from Tegiwa and wired that in neatly, looks OK and cost next to nothing
I also decided it was time for a colour change of my Rays, and went with the white. I was initially planning on going with the red spoke stickers like the Rays article on Speedhunters as that’s what convinced me to buy the wheels in the first place. But I loved the white with contrasting purple brake callipers so left it in the end.
Finally, my HKS coilovers decided to piss the oil out of them after the car came out of hibernation post lockdown. Just what I wanted. So I went with a set of the tried and tested Tein Flex A’s from Partbox.
I’ve loved every minute of owning this car, and will be sad to see it go when it eventually does, but I can’t help but feel I’m at the end of the road for mods without sinking even deeper and starting an engine build, and I’d rather put the money towards a new car. Thanks to all for your help on my 86 journey, it’s been an absolute pleasure

James18 reacted to will300 in Will300's Subaru BRZ Build
Thanks James, the wheels are selaed using G-Techniq W5 Wheel Armour and overcoated with G-Techniq Exo V4, this will hopefully stop any dirt and brake dust from sticking to them, for atleast 18months. I'll spray them with Citrus wash, jet wash them and then wash them with car shampoo and they'll clean up easily.
On my 949Racing wheels the G-Techniq coating was starting to deteriorate, so I purchased some Bilt Hamber: https://www.bilthamber.com/auto-wheel, which I was very pleased with.

James18 got a reaction from likaito in Budget Build - Kai's Primo daily
In case you didn't know - you'll need shorter wipers to match or it's an MOT fail afaik, provided the sunstrip is actually big enough for the wipers to reach that area of the windscreen.

That does look good! You're a braver man than me 😂
Good luck with the rest of the build, looks great so far. Excited to see how it finishes

I mention it in the video actually I'm going to cut out the "V" light section and glass fibre it in to the V2 diffuser. Having owned a glass fibre bodied car in the past time not too bad at it and it shouldnt be too tricky with some patience.

James18 got a reaction from LGE in Adding a factory spoiler?
Can't see how that can be possible. A new bootlid is £450 retail direct from Toyota

James18 got a reaction from No.13 in Adding a factory spoiler?
You'll need to drill the boot to fit the OEM spoiler. But I'd definitely echo what has been said - why go for OEM when there's so much choice and imo better looking aftermarket ones.
If you buy a car with a spoiler less boot, I'd be willing to bet it wouldn't be that hard to find someone that would want to swap for their one with the spoiler!
I can't imagine a spoiler making a huge difference on insurance.

James18 got a reaction from SimonG68 in Southwest Meet Up??
Based near Bath so could be interested depending on how far down the coast you plan the meet - there's also quite a few owners in Swindon that are active, who I'm sure would also be interested. Could be good to plan a trip to Japfest with meeting points on the way up or something? 👍

Thank you! It's carbon! Same as the bonnet. I am debating getting them body coloured, maybe if the clear coat fades at some point in the future...

James18 got a reaction from Deacon in First MOT after TD UEL and Cat Back
This same rule applies to motorcycle MOTs. I'd be surprised if it wasn't already in place for cars?
"Exhaust noise from the vehicle must not be unreasonably above the noise level normally expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition."
It is down to the testers discretion so just take it to your local friendly MOT centre, there's plenty of partially deaf testers around 😉

James18 got a reaction from VAD17 in James' '86 Build
Collected a set of front and rear brembos off the Impreza's on Sunday - which I'm sure a few of you will recognise. Fitted yesterday;
Also grabbed the carbon boot for good measure 😆

James18 got a reaction from spikyone in James' '86 Build
Just collected the car from Excel Bodyworks in Radstock. Rocket Bunny V2 Diffuser fitted along with GReddy Gracer front lip also from Torqen and TRD side skirts from Fensport.
Front lip and skirts have been painted with gloss black on the lower lips and in body colour on the upper parts. Works nicely imo -
