They say that because people are inherently stupid.

I've done 64K in my car, it uses no oil and makes good power.

Whilst I did limit the rpm to a point, I made sure that even when it only had a few miles on it, that I gave it full throttle in second and lifted off to seal the rings properly. I'd typically go up to 4500rpm or so then lift off and let it slow down under engine braking.

I also varied the revs a lot and built up the rpms until 1000miles. You need to load the engine, but never, ever labour it.

They are standard on the low spec 86's such as the GT Limited in Japan as our hire car had these.

A great day at Brands finishing second by 0.16s but more importantly getting really settled with the car now. Thanks for the help and support from Daniel and Chris at the weekend, and Debs for putting up with my race head moods.

You don't need a remap. Actually removing the 2nd cat does give a 5% gain of about 10bhp or so and I found 17lb/ft when on the rollers, though I do have a system as well.

It will make it noisier but if the rest of the exhaust is stock I'd expect it to be very quiet still.

First mod (if you don't count the armrest Richard kindly had fitted). Never had a Japanese car before, but the kids have grown up on Studio Ghibli films - so we have Totoro, Catbus and Jiji to keep an eye on their part of the car.

Well. Stephen Hawking was wrong. Time doesn't only stop at the event horizon of a black hole. It also stops when you know your shiny new Toyota is down at RRG, not half a mile from your front door, being primped, prodded and polished, ready for delivery.... Which isn't 'til Saturday.

It's like being 5 again waiting for Xmas...

Not bad going Mike! Just out of interest I notice you have square plates on. It looks better than I thought it was, though I always have a sort of rule myself that it's only square plates on an import like say my AE86.

Also you do know that the rear lights have nothing to do with Lexus, it's paying homage to the 2000GT which makes me feel less keen to change them, but plenty of people have!

You so need the TRD engine start/stop button! I was fortunate to pick one up in Superautobacs in Yokohama for a paltry £65, but it's twice the price to buy it here.

I have an un-remapped NA. I have driven every version of FI (except the GPRM car). It depends what you want. The AVO turbo is a welll sorted kit IMO, lag is not bad at all, but I preferred the balance of a stage 1 over the stage 3. I've also driven the Sprintex. I found that very torquey in the mid range. I think my favourite is the HKS version 2 so far. Good mid-range punch, but the fun is right up to the redline and the way it just steams into the limiter is irresistible. I'm hoping to have a go in the Cosworth version soon. There are lots of options but it's all about how you want the car to drive.

Signed a three year contract. Whilst I have my reservations about Chris Evans (though he slightly redeemed himself with the TFI anniversary last weekend), I sincerely hope he moves it forward as the current format was getting very tired.

Adam, you are talking a lot of money to get a fully built forged bottom end. You will need to add a few grand (guessing about £5K) to all that if you're paying someone to do it all. You may want to consider how necessary it is to have 400bhp in a GT86.

I've been an owner for 14 months and I'm looking to start being a little more active with a club.
Joined the Facebook group a few weeks back in search of the best forum and needless to say you guys seem to be the friendliest and most active which I would like to get involved with.

So a little about myself I am a BMW tech working in Stafford, I brought my gt86 back in April 2014 from Wolverhampton Toyota and have been in love with it since. I'm probably best known for my dry sense of humour and miserable face and hope I'll fit in around here quite well (in which I mean no offence i know you're nothing like that yourselves).

Now the important stuff. The car, she is a 14 plate pearl white, black leather red stitch interior with a centre arm rest for lazy gear changing days (there isn't many of these). I'm hoping soon to start my long list of modification with a new set of wheels!

And here is a picture of her (if I can work this website yet)

Cheers for reading and looking forward to getting involved

Many thanks for the pointers on the washer bottle....

I visited Fensport ten days ago when the car was on the ramp and the front bodywork removed. We discussed all the options.. it is not just the trans cooler coil that has to be resited, the electric oil pump and the motor fan have to be plumbed in... much scratching of heads.. at the same time I asked if we could replace the 4.67 final drive with the original 4.1 and also fit uprated drive shafts.

My washer bottle/reservoir is now sited in the boot. Both oil coolers are now at the front of the car, ducted either side of the intercooler -  the foglight apertures are way too small to allow sufficient airflow. Both exit through the (plastic) wheel arch internal liners, with mesh installed to prevent gravel etc. thrown off the wheels from puncturing the cooler coils.

This was a major engineering undertaking with custom made brackets, pipe runs, ducting and electrics, both behind the front bumper and leading to the washer bottle in the boot.  Dave and Alex at Fensport worked their socks off to get this done - and I am really pleased with the finished product (which you cannot see) .

Cost/benefit? - if it saves another fried autotrans / loss of competing at two Sprints it is well worth it.

The engineering work was completed by last Monday and on Wednesday Adrian started mapping (and was at it until well gone 8.00pm!). If you recall earlier I had already completed to 500 miles running-in demanded of the new HKS forged engine, so it was a gentle trundle initially with eyes peeled on oil temps/leaks and then down to his wizardry..

I had asked for the approx. power output of my original two maps to be retained if possible - at 0.55bar (245bhp) and 0.75bar boost (265bhp). I then wanted a further two maps with the same increase in boost, so that map 4 was at approx. 1.05bar. This is way under the maximum working boost that the HKS engine is capable of taking but is a reasonable yardstick to start with.

However, the original actuator on the Stage3 AVO was not happy to play under 0.72bar boost, so a 'softer' actuator was quickly installed..

Thursday evening and Adrian had gone as far as he wanted, considering the ambient temps - it was the hottest day of the year so far. So I went up to Chatteris yesterday afternoon (pleased to find my spare autotrans has arrived from the States) and we tried it....

My map 1 is crap.... yeah, it's quicker than a standard car but nothing is working to any degree of efficiency. Bigger blowers want more boost, simple innit... map 2 is simply awesome, map 3 is manic and map4 is.... un-fscking-believable!! With the exception of the LFA I don't think I've ever been in a car which accelerates so quickly... please bear in mind we are talking getting up towards 400bhp here, and that's at the hubs on road fuel.. my car as standard gave 164bhp at the hubs..

Because of the ambient temp issues Adrian hasn't started getting to grips with it yet. The big plus is there is no signs of knock and the autotrans is working a smoothly as it ever has.. all logs in the three usable maps are right on the button.. on short maximum-attack runs both oil temps peaked at 90degrees (as they did in rush hour traffic at 6.00pm last night) and, by flicking on my manual pump/fan switch whilst stationery in traffic the autotrans oil dropped 8degrees in a matter of seconds..

72 miles home down the M11 in map2.... blurry eedjits in Beemers and GTI's getting in the way and Transit-man at 100mph trying to stay with me... mwahahaha... the acceleration between 70-120mph in fourth is mind numbing, the additional torque makes the whole thing tractable from 2000rpm... this is one heck of a machine..

More to come. I am at TDI in Thurrock on Monday to dyno these initial figures. Then it's (hopefully) back to Fensport on Friday to get the new Stoptech brakes fitted, if they've arrived from the States. Then it's Woodbridge on Saturday to learn a bit more about how to drive the thing, followed by Sunday's Sprint.. then back to Fensport for more mapping work.

Anyone at Woodbridge is welcome to passenger with me once I've got to grips with it myself.. you will be, err, surprised..

I collected my Stage 3 AVO car yesterday from Fensport, complete with HKS forged internals.

I shall be writing up my blog this morning with first impressions. Mind you, I've only done 70-odd miles so far - the first test will be next Saturday at Woodbridge followed by Sunday's TSS round.

I can admit I am in awe. This is, without shadow of a doubt, the most powerful car I have ever driven. The acceleration is unbelievable..

There might not be much in the way of prizes just yet, but we would love anyone long time who could possibly come up with a logo. I'm afraid I just do not understand photoshop. But, I have an idea. How about a cut and shut of the front end of a GT86 and BRZ combined? I just think it's important we ensure both cars are equally represented. Other ideas are a GT86 logo and the BRZ moniker super imposed over a union flag. Just ideas of course but we need something!

There's a part of me that likes it, that if you want more power you modify it. These cars are all about individualisation just like the AE86 is. It's good for the scene to have tuners doing things with the cars and there are tons and tons of parts available as a result. They should leave it as is and let us make it our own in our own way.
