    Hi Everyone!
I've been a member here (not been active at all...) and on GT86 owners club but after going to a few Japfests and Reading meets, I need to be more active! I started my build project on GT86 owners about 2 years ago which started with the standard mods for NA tune. the 86 was running the following: Tuning Developments EL manifold, JDL Ultra Quiet high flow cat, Ark Performance Grip, Apexi intake and Mishimoto intake hose with Abbey Motorsport remap. This got me to 187whp which I was happy with for a long time but I've always loved the idea of going boosted with this car. And now after 4 years of ownership it finally is!
I think my car could possibly be the first in the UK to run the HKS turbo kit! The 86 is now producing 253whp which should be 300bhp at the fly and 205lbft at the wheels. My engine is completely standard and doesn't have any uprated injectors so Mark at Abbey Motorsport made sure the turbo came in as linear as possible for reliability. You do get a bit of turbo lag from below 3000rpm but when the turbo kicks in, the power delivery is incredible! It's so smooth and continues to pull strong all the way through to the redline. The noise of the turbo is brilliant, especially as you come of throttle and get a proper "choo choo" flutter.
Mark, Scott and the team at Abbey did an incredible installation and mapping of the turbo which I can't thank them enough for! Only issue now is I need to clean up the other half of the engine bay...
Here are my mods so far:
HKS Turbo Kit with Zircotec coated manifold HKS Oil Cooler ARK Performance Grip  JDL Ultra Quiet high flow cat  Tein Flex A Coilovers Project MU brake pads (B Force-front & NS400-rear) Team Dynamics Pro Race 3 17x7  Valenti FT86 Speed Factory spec Tail Lights I've attached just a few pictures but first time uploading with this website so bear with me if it's not right
    Thanks for reading!

Just the VSC being too intrusive on the first right handed, it was costing me exit speed. With everything off there was no sliding for the same entry speed so the VSC was being rubbish!
Tbf I could hear it going nuts on your video as well but you were going ok, that said I still think it cost you time as I was faster with it off.

I think having the traction control on makes quite a big difference there Lauren. I had it on the first few runs and found it too frustrating on that first right hairpin, should have turned it fully off sooner. Doesn't seem to slow Graeme or Kevin down, but can't make it work with my driving. I wonder if it's to do with having higher spring rates in the rear.

As promised; here are a few pics of some of you. Again, the quality isn't great I was just using a mobile phone. I also have some of you at the top of the circuit but I was on the hill, so far away you look like dots in the picture. Oh and some of you look like your car is just stationary on the track as my phone can't capture moving wheels.

As much fun as it was seeing you all race around. The drive to and from Anglesey was spectacular. Just a shame the other 3/4 of the drive was dull and with lunatic's on the road.
I haven't seen a road that smooth since... actually I can't remember the last time I saw a road that smooth.

Yeah exactly they are not illegal. Noise cancelling headphones don't block everything, at least not the ones I've tried.
If you consider objectively, all of the sound insulation people are adding to doors and boots etc is essentially a very basic, heavy and inefficient form of noise cancelling.
What I was trying to get across is the Focals are not a massive step forward. If you can't even listen to the stock speakers, you're not gonna be that impressed with just Focals either in my experience. Proper noise insulation is the only way to go for decent sound.

This response from PattersonLaw sums up the many 'opinions' out there:
    - Are you allowed to drive in the UK whilst listening to music via a pair of headphones?
    - Yes as long as there can be no suggestion that you are not in proper control of the vehicle or driving without due care and attention.
The crucial thing is whether you are excluding any chance of hearing external sounds.  If you are, then you are driving without due care and attention.

What a good day, big thanks to all the Javelin crew and marshals must have been very hot out on circuit all day. For me personally more than I could of hoped for, my aim was to make it to the first 3 overall in TSS at some point but to get first was awesome. Coming away with a host of wins was fantastic, very close battle with Phil who kept me pushing hard all day. Looking forward to Anglesey after our hols.

    You beat me to it!
Thanks @maurice for the challenge all day! It was fun chasing the clock and trying to just edge ahead!
It was a great day all round, even with the heat stroke, some rather ruined tyres, nearly crashing 5 times and the 4.5 hour drive home!
Congratulations @KevinA for the overall win, and Tomas for the TSS class win!  4 flipping seconds!  Damn!

    1. Definitely worthwhile trying stock car on track, its quite capable
    2. TD NA tune is an easy option - imo one of the best modes you can do (and if you decide to go with FI turbo kit later you would be 1/3 there already)
    3. Then its a choice depending on what you aim for, reasons for upgrade, budget, etc, etc...
I went for BBK and suspension upgrade and new wheels first. Good for weekend driving and occasional track days. Does not raise maintenance costs (if anything with BBK you should be able to save on pads somewhat) and unless you make suspension stiffer not much difference for daily driving.
But then... I have made my mind by now and my GT 86 will be making a trip to Warrington end of this month
I should be able to tell you in a few month I will give it a proper test end of August...

So to fix the broken manifold I opted for a new TD UEL. Definitely looks the part.

I also took the opportunity to heatshield the sump and the intake where it passes near the manifold.

surrey86 got a reaction from Church in Leaking Shocks
Church on some coilovers it's a necessary evil as it can be hard to grip the shaft and there's no Allen key slot in the top to hold it. On the stock strut there is an Allen slot and thus an impact is not necessary.
If you do use a impact you need to be careful!
(This is from practical experience of fitting a few sets of coilovers top mounts and OEM struts)

Its not the springs themselves its when they are installed where the damage is caused. Its caught a few people out, if you impact gun the top nut or spin the damper spindle/rod when removing it, it trashes the seals and causes the dampers to leak.

    Hi Mike
What were the reasons behind designing the kit with an 80 degree stat rather than one closer to the regular oil temperatures?

Mine was a little borderline with the second cat only, needed to be quite warm.
If it was mapped for 99 fuel and it's on Esso's 97 it won't help.
Still you are well over, maybe the second cat has had it.

Yep! Think I'll be giving that a shot after Japfest 😀 I've got 2 jacks so one can take some of the strain of the subframe weight as I jiggle it back into place.
I've looked at them before and they're not too expensive, especially if they make that much different. Guess that's the next project ... as well as induction ... and maybe a strut brace 🤣🤣🤣

I fitted the Superpro version a while back, definitely worth doing. Did it on my last car as well.
For a DIY job I'd give it a Haynes 3/5 spanner rating, as on the 86 as soon as you remove the bolts the subframe shifts a little and you need to line it back up perfectly with a jack.
You need to be really careful threading them back in or you are in deep shit if it cross threads. It's not rocket science, but do not do this job in a rush!
