Before the 86 what did you have? My brothers was:

Skoda Felicia
Suzuki Swift Sport
Toyota GT86

Not many cars but each one taught him a lot. Mine so far are:
Mk3 Astra 1.4
Mk1 Fabia vRS
Mk2 Fabia vRS
BMW Z4M
Mk2 Skoda Octavia - Shark tuned to Stage 2+ at 282bhp

Currently contemplating changing the Octavia of an 86 but thought it would be interesting to know where others have come from to get to an 86.

13 year car history:

  • Nissan Almera - Mk2 (Was supposed to be a Mk3 Mondeo but after going to view 3 they were sold the next time I went to go put a deposit down, so had to take the next best thing on the forecourt due to work. Again only planned to be a first car... had it for 5 years and would have kept it if I had the drive space)
  • GT86 - Current and no plans to change  :)

Prior to my BRZ I only had a 53 plate Skoda Octavia, it was a tank though.  Over 200,000 miles on it when I traded it in, needed minimal maintenance and nothing beyond consumables ever needed looking at.

Mine:

  • Audi A3 1.6 - first car, solid enough, but not good on fuel for the performance.
  • Audi A3 2.0T - much faster (200 bhp and quattro), even thirstier, but at least it went well. Actually pretty cheap to run as it only lost about 1k a year in depreciation.
  • Audi S3 - bonkers fast (300 bhp and quattro), lovely DSG gearbox, a bit boring dynamically. Put it through a wall. D:
  • Toyota GT86 - best car by far, much more fun than the rest (despite being much slower than the S3). Bought with the gap insurance payout from the last car.

Well hang on thar one minute, mine was a 1300 sport you know.

I have fond memories of mine. It was a real shitbox that I cared not about, often crashing in to my mates Cortina and vice versa (before the time when h&s turned everybody in to pussies). Sold it for a few quid more than I paid for it as the 1300 engines were popular with the mini brigade.

Ran around in mine for years never realised you could pump up suspension used to like burning out 2and 3 exhaust valves but repaired this myself once lived on a council estate no one ever wanted to nick it🤓

First car:Seat altea 1.9 tdi reference sport 55 plate. Bought it off my dad, slow but cool to say my first car had a turbo.

Second: SUZUKI swift sport 62 plate, loved it, was very fun quickish and cheap to run. Went to loads of shows with SSOC last year in it, also went to the evo triangle and other parts of wales and south England.

Now my 86, which is my dream car and i never wanna sell it 😁

Immediately before my GT86  I had a highly developed Lotus Elise S1 which was too impractical for the road and a Honda S2000, which I still have cos I'm greedy. ;-)

I'm probably older than many on here so have had too many to mention, but amongst them is a second generation Chevrolet Corvair (the rear engined flat six) and a long wheelbase high-roof Nissan Patrol with ten inch wide wheels. I've also had bikes - the most interesting of which was a three cylinder two-stroke Kawasaki 500.  Now that I should not have sold.

In order of ownership

106, 1.2

206, 1.6

Mazda 3, 2.0 sport

Audi TT 225. Got into track days chassis limited

BMW 135i 420ph beast, wanted to do more track days need a cheaper car to run

MX5 NC, did loads of track days, realised it required to much time off work, and I didn't love the mx5 for anything other than a track work horse

Charged 86, best of all worlds, light, responsive, love it, acceptable for road use, great on track days
