Special K 442 Report post Posted December 2, 2013 I agree with you, Lauren. It's too warm/too early for them at the moment... thing is they're predicting frost/ice from Thursday onwards so it's hardly worth the cost of changing them back again at the moment.. If it's not cold for our Xmas bash I shall almost certainly change back for that weekend... Spec K
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted December 2, 2013 Well, there's no cost to change them back, I have my other wheels in the shed. But, obviously I'm not going to be jacking the car up at this point to swop them over. It'll get colder soon, hopefully!
rob275 1817 Report post Posted December 2, 2013 My winter tyres never festered, just thought bollocks to it and using the primacy's which are worse than the eagles lol. Still least it'll go sideways easier
Rab 60 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 So what's the general consensus then now that the winter tyres are on peeps? Reason I ask is I drove 400 miles on mine last night, at over 10 degrees, 200 miles was in the wet, and I wasn't confident on them at all. I stuck to 75 with the cruise control on for most of the journey. I think next year I'll wait until there's snow on the ground before I put them on .... keelerad 256 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 They will not feel as good as the OEM at higher temps, problem is when to change, we had the entire British media foreseeing a new ice age about to descend a few weeks back so I think quite a few of us switched to early. Problem is now I have cleaned and packed away my summers and I know full well what would happen as soon as I put them back on. But I say again once it gets cold they are a revelation, just need decent weather forecasts Alec
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Not great at the moment. They are okay in the dry, lethal in wet or damp conditions in the current higher temperatures. Saw 13C today, I admit they don't inspire confidence. Obviously they'll be great when it's cold, but its, erm not cold!
Sideways? 33 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Not great at the moment. They are okay in the dry, lethal in wet or damp conditions in the current higher temperatures. Saw 13C today, I admit they don't inspire confidence. Obviously they'll be great when it's cold, but its, erm not cold! I wouldn't go so far as to say they are "lethal" but they are pretty soft and slippy because of the "high" temperatures at the moment... last year when it was proper cold and icy they were lovely and inspired loads of confidence in comparison to the OEM Primacy's... As others have said, I'm ready for the ice age they keep telling us is coming in the next few days / weeks / end of the month / next month / we missed it... Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 10, 2013 Balls....First Central want £100 to add me as a named driver to my sister's policy to be able to drive her car during winter and for the remainder of her policy (till next sept because she'll be gone for more than 2 months). Though no idea why she didn't qeury how much would it cost for me to be on policy for less than 2 months....eitherway, I may need to get some winter tyres after all

Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 10, 2013 How are the old GoodYears doing for you Will? I was looking at the getting some Nokian WR A3 (or was is the D3's?) but then thought I could use my sisters car for the bad days...they were going for £100 each which is obviously more money than adding me to her insurance but it feels like a waste of money when I can continue to use the winter tyres for the next couple of years. Hopefully it won't get bad enough to warrant them this year
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Why do people go for Nokian winter tyres? Never herard of this as a brand name. I understand it came out top in a test organised by Nokian, (whoever they are), but does that really mean they are any good?
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Are Nokian not Scandinavian? Originally part of the Nokia group IIRC

I understand it came out top in a test organised by Nokian, (whoever they are), but does that really mean they are any good? Everyone who's tried them is raving about them, they're (marginally) cheaper than the big name brands and they come from a country with plenty experience of winter conditions. Probably a few good reasons to choose them in amongst there! I'd never heard of them either and the Jury is still out on them until we get some sort of winter! Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Yeah, what Rob said, they've done well in a couple of tests which I'm sure they didn't all setup. I'm pretty sure I've read that they've been around for quite a while and are a pretty big brand in Europe who specialises in winter tyres, just a relatively new in the UK maybe? Lauren 2259 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 I admit, I would still go for a known brand.
Deacon 1357 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Nokian have been making winter tyres for about a hundred years. I'm pretty sure they were one of the first, if not the first, to make them.
Deacon 1357 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Just checked - they were the worlds first producer of winter tyres back in 1936. http://www.hakkapeliitta75.com/en/

Special K 442 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 Frosty here first thing this morning - my Matadors felt the best they've been since I put them on. Very reassuring, can't wait for some proper white stuff.. I was up at Fensport earlier this week fitting some tweaks... I'm sure I smelled another GT86 waiting to be turbo'd. That'll be #8 by my reckoning... no-one would say a word about whose it is... Spec K

GT86-Ian 351 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 Did anyone find out who's Orange auto got the turbo treatment, was it a members car ??
Special K 442 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 As far as I'm aware no orange auto has had the treatment, Ian... I'm sure the guy near here is a manual box.. Spec K
Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 12, 2013 I'm sure the recent orange one was an auto which was direct from the dealership, last I was there, not even Adrian knew who it was for......but I could be wrong.
