James- got a reaction from MartinT in Initially started looking at Auris's and Corolla's...Only went and bought a bloody GT86 didn't I?! 😁
I'm amazed to hear the ages of some of you. I think it's fantastic (I appreciate I sound condescending). I'm 30 years old and it makes me smile knowing that some of you guys still in 60s are out there enjoying cars. Gives me hope for the future!

The sad story of my car was a 65 year old retiree bought his dream car for retirement, and died from undiagnosed cancer 3 weeks later. That's how I came to get my car. It's a 69 plate that I picked up this July with 200 miles on the clock... the family only sold it to me because they knew it was my dream car. I couldn't pay anywhere near it's true value. I felt bad at the time for buying someone else's dream, particularly at the price they sold to me. They seemed happy to sell it to an enthusiast though. It makes me happy and I think as a car lover who is way too attached to his car. If I ever had to get rid of my car, giving it to someone who would appreciate it would make me happy. Anyway, it was a sad story and I truly felt sorry for the original owner (also, called James and he had the same birth date as me... another reason the family sold it to me! interesting coincidences!)

Anyway I'm way off topic. But it just made me think. Congratulations and welcome to the world of the twins (GT86/BRZ). Enjoy it, they're fantastic cars and I hope you'll be able to enjoy this one for 15 years. Quite reliable, decent servicing costs. Fun... has backseats (that can be used in a pinch!)... fold the seats down and it becomes very practicable. I've had hatchbacks (208gti) that had less space for luggage etc!

Anyway take care and enjoy your new car. If you have any questions. The two UK forums are more than enough to help you. Neither, as active as they both use to be, but still enough.

Here's a picture of mine: (You need to upload one of yours! @tomlee80

    Welcome! 😎
    I'm 20 years older than you and bought a GT86 about a year ago. It's my 18th car, if I remember well. 😁 I've owned everything from a Datsun 120Y to a Lexus GS430...

To be honest the Corolla purchase in 2005 was never intended to be a long term affair.  It just never broke down, ever! So I became attached. Ironically it was still running fine, but someone in a 19 plate Golf R drove into it outside a supermarket whilst I was shopping and it became an instant write off.  I felt I needed to stay with Toyota and here I am (albeit Toyota with a Subaru engine).
Thanks, it's really so nice and tactile to drive.  I have zero regrets.
    That's what I keep telling everyone, I'm just full-on embracing it! 😂

    @BRZ-123

    A general update...

Absolutely loving my tyres. 225 is fantastic, PS4 also fantastic. I worried it would kill the fun of the car, but no. Just given supreme confidence and made the car a blast, as you can really really hold the speed now through the corners.

Truly the best purchase I've made thus far.

To anyone on the fence, 225 is fine. PS4's are excellent.

Have a look for cashback offers... I got mine for a very cheap price all in all.

I'm finding my 225 tyres absolutely fine. No difference in steering tbh. Just feels grippier which is what I wanted anyway. I'm very happy, would I be happier on 215? Who knows. But 225 I've run for ~500 miles now and they're fantastic.

So I had 225/45/17 fitted today... PS4's for around £65 a corner, which was insane value. ATS still have the offer, combined with top cash-back and halifax banking.
They are so much stickier... wow. Big big big difference. Not all positive, if anything the car feels a bit too stuck to the road. haha I know that doesn't sound like a bad thing but funnily enough it feels too safe now. But perhaps that's just as the tyres are brand brand new.

As a whole I'm very happy, the car seems more responsive, faster and honestly going around corners is a blast... because really I didn't have to use my brakes much on the way home at all. Just absolute glued to the tarmac. I think if you don't push your car very hard (I do) you will find these tyres too sticky/too boring. But pushing my car on Lincolnshire backroads just wow...

Also, wheels are confirmed to be 7.5" on performance pack @Lauren I looked at the rims and they also measured them. Interesting comment from ATS Euro was the 215's although recommended were too stretched on my 7.5" rim and funny enough they recommended the 225, as it would happen I ordered 225 anyway... When he put the 225s on he commented how the sidewalls were straight like they were supposed to be. Whereas on the 215s they were too stretched.

Furthermore, the wheel arches are improved. This is on stock springs, and the wheel gap on the front and back is notably different! Very happy overall, just a small negative that the car is "too sticky" haha. But very happy. I'll give it another very spirited drive tomorrow and give you an update for those that are interested in 225s

Interesting... I just looked this up in my manual.
I have blue series with performance pack.
This is from my manual lol... so it doesn't make it clear at all. It has 3 sizes listed... fun.

That's just covering all the variables that are current. I had a GT86 hire car in Japan with the 16's and smaller brakes. 17x7 is for stock and 17 x7.5 is PP.

Going on a 2019 (December 2019) Blue Edition... not sure that matters, wheels are standard 7" just black and look a bit fancier 😛
But will update, they're going on Tuesday

Personally, I'm going Michelin PS4's at 225/45/17 to test. We'll see, maybe this is a mistake and I'll regret it for sidewall flex... but considering it's upgrading from the Primacies, it's probably unlikely I'll even notice the flex.

Edit: Just ordered the tyres. I'll update once fitted and can compare vs the primacies

Just 3M fixing tape, and yeah it was hard to get it on right. But it's mainly held on at the top of the plate down to the middle, the bottom isn't really connected to the car. But it doesn't matter and it hasn't moved since I installed it so obviously okay! (have been +100 mph)

I gave the plate a little bend with my hands, not too much as it'll snap and eventually it will conform to the front panel anyway due to the tension and time.

Gave my car a clean today and put on my private plate! Deleted the crappy number plate bracket at the front and just attached the plate (5 digit plate).
To anyone after premium plates... can highly recommend https://www.fourdotdesignerplates.co.uk/
Well worth the premium to be honest... in the flesh the plates are the best I have ever seen. So clear. so vibrant. Perfect.

It's definitely worth a test drive. But it does depend on what you want from a car. It's a fast GT car IMO, it's less engaging than the 86. Easy to pile on speed, much less effort to drive (see engagement comment). I found that after getting back into the 86 the desire to have one went away, but the B58 is damn good engine, if way too subdued in noise. It'll be a better place to be in for daily driving but less accommodating if you would use the rear seats at all.

I'm averaging around 30 mpg... around 20-25 with spirited driving and around 37 on a long distance trip.
My car has done 1500 miles though, so perhaps it will become better once it's worn in! Who knows...

Not too bothered really, buying a car like this and worrying about MPG is mental to me. Same as the people not using VPOWER etc. (or super unleaded at the very least)
