So after 4.5 years of ownership I said goodbye to the GT86. After all this time I cannot think of a single day I did not enjoy the car even after taking all the parts off the car and putting back to standard it just reminded me of what a great car it was before I started tweaking it. I'm luckey that my wife drives a Giallo so if I ever miss it I can take that for a spin and experience one of the great cars again.

I replaced my gt86 with a not holy unexpected:

    981 Cayman S

Once I have done a few miles in it I will come back and add a comparison.

    Have a good Christmas all.

Just a quick post to say thank you to all whom have been in contact over the last 12 months with us, be it for simple questions/parts orders through to turbo kits, we appreciate each and every enquiry that comes to us.

From all of us here we'd like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, more of the same for next year

    Thanks

I came from a remapped BMW 335d M-Sport Coupe with 370bhp / 700nm torque (yes, you read that right) and I still prefer my BRZ.  It gives me more driving fun, is more challenging and is far more rewarding to drive.

There isn't a larger tensioner from what we can find. We could always stick a large diameter idler pulley on, but my thinking is that we shouldn't have to make compromises for something which shouldn't be an issue.
I'm losing the plot with this engine, just issue after issue. At least if I source a replacement that I've seen running and working, it's peace of mind despite the extra effort.
My thoughts exactly. I need to remove any trace of the original engine as it's caused us nothing but problems.
A replacement will be fairly straight forward and leaves us confident that it works and runs.
Nope. Was supplied as is, told it came from a working car by the previous garage but as you've probably guessed by now, I don't believe a word they've told me...
Going to view a complete LS400 tonight with what looks to be a good engine. Can make some money back splitting the rest of the car down too.

Sounds like a self imposed deadline... 🤔 But understandably  motivating to go to these lengths now it's so close to completion!

1st chance I've had to do some work of my own on the car today!
Finally got round to installing the new 5x114.3 hubs, complete with new ARP studs for extra strength and length.
Fairly simply procedure taking about 2 hours in total, didn't manage to do the rears yet as I had to leave the garage just after lunch. Had a quick test fit of the new 2Forge ZF1 wheels, should be a nice fitment with the new front wings.
In the meantime, Simon and the Carson Performance team are putting the finishing touches to the engine, fuel system all complete, oil and water lines/pipes all sorted, belt run 95% done. So many fiddly little jobs that all take a lot of time up.
Saturday should be an interesting day...

I will add that if you don't want this problem to manifest itself again glue the pin in, then you aren't just relying on a press fit.
I had the same issue, for those who do this don't go mad with pushing the pin back in either, being tapered and made of metal it will split the plastic case of the arm rest! I just noticed mine had a crack in it before I went any further. Superglue works just fine.

Easy way is take the 12v cap from the power socket in the glove box, then look under your pedals you will see a hole where the sound enters the cabin. The cap fits the tube fine so you can test and remove if you don’t like in less than a minute

I bought a second hand TD EL manifold, overpipe, and resonated cat-back system from another forum member a few weeks ago. I got them all fitted (using new gaskets/cone seal etc) on my driveway the other day as I wanted the satisfaction of fitting it myself.
Today it was mapped by TD and I'm impressed with the results! The car feels far livelier, with better throttle response and a much improved urgency about it!
I spent the whole time asking questions and chatting with Mike about other mods I'd like to do. He was great, very patient and explained everything I asked. I'll definitely be going back to TD for any future mods!
He also took me for a drive in his Turbo GT86, which is very impressive!
My savings account has now been re-named 'TURBO KIT FUND' 😆

Thanks again for today Mike, fantastic service 🙂

Slick work Tommy - I think I’ll copy your mic idea!

I bought the handbrake cable bypass mod off amazon, because you can’t just earth the green wire to bring up the full menus on my headunit and I don’t like the idea of splicing oem wiring.

Check all this wiring I’ve got to work with for the Pioneer AVH-Z9100 and backup camera, there’s more loom already in the dash from the OEM Audio+ system

    You have no idea!
Why would I do that when there's a perfectly good spot in the engine bay for it? Not to mention creating extra work by relocating it
Try this one  should give a pretty good idea of what mine will be like

This is something I’m not sure about. Reading the instructions for my Sony HU, it has a section about programming the unit for steering wheel controls, but I won’t know if they work until I receive all my cables to do the install.
Thanks for the link Tommy. This may come in handy if my HU doesn’t deal with steering wheel controls after all 😐🤔

Didn't bother with the handbrake wire. I'm pretty sure it's to stop videos being played whilst you're on the move... I've never played any video content on any headunit I've owned and don't intend to start! 🙂

Used to have to do this on Mitsubishi GDi engines when the valves carboned up. Cannot see this being an issue as we have port injectors as well.

In the aerospace industry the part number won't change if a different supplier was used, could even relax tolerances or different material if its proven equivalent.

Is expect the automotive industry to be similar, I'd expect an alternative supplier was used for a period of time. Or something similar.

Nice write up Lauren but as said above it’s getting very expensive at £31k lots of other cars at this price point. I was speaking to Richard a while back and we both think Toyota should be listing these as an option on the standard GT86 as well as other bolts on parts that would retain a warranty much like Mountune.
Sales are slow and used cars seem to take ages to sell, Toyota selling parts along the lines of Toyota Gazoo Racing would increase sales as Toyota have won the WRC manufactures award giving lots of exposure in the media.
