The facelift certainly did bring some improvements, mainly in refinement than anything else. A bit nicer on the interior and dash too.

ShinyBRZ got a reaction from Mark-in-Stoke in Thinking of coming back
Wasn't sure where to post this, but kind of feels the right place as I've been away for so long.
I'm thinking of coming back to a BRZ. I had one of the first in 2012, but about three years ago swapped for a Seat Leon Cupra estate due to a lack of space in the back for my young lads.
The Seat's faster, quicker, quieter, comfier, more grip, more brakes (with the big Brembo kit on it), just about as economical, easier to get in n' out, carries more (just about), but dull as anything. "Dull" might be the wrong word - it's 280bhp, so perhaps "uninvolving" is better....
I recall the BRZ was plenty fast enough on the road, except away from the lights surrounded by German mid range diesels!! It never felt out of its depth, even on standard tyres on the track. So, if it's been improved for the 2017 facelift, it might be knocking one of the other options for a 2nd car, a 981 Cayman, out of the picture.

ShinyBRZ reacted to Lauren in Winter tyres thread
Now I've had the winter tyres on for nearly a month, I've actually grown to like them. It's a lot more fun than the sticky Advans and I can steer the car on the throttle far more. For the most part I just edge the car a bit on the rear with sport mode on, but it's far more playful which you just can't do with wider and stickier tyres on.

So, with this in mind, I've found the car to be a whole load more fun to drive again. I think I'm going to go back to a new set of Primacy's on my TE37's when spring comes round and ditch my part used Advans. I had an absolute ball with it last year, then I put the Advans on and well really the fun just stopped.

    Sometimes less is more.

My race buddy has won an auction on eBay for a 328i E36 that's being sold as an actual working car. We'll be ripping out the engine and box for our race car, and I'll be making sure the rad comes across too.
I understand it's a lighter engine with more power and torque. What can possibly go wrong?!?

Makes me think.....maybe I should stop posting over there and bring my thoughts/time/money/effort into modifying my '86 for the good of fellow enthusiasts to read about over to here.

I don't think the stock car is under braked, either from a feel or endurance perspective, ( where as for example the R35 GTRs brakes were IMHO marginal, suffering significant fade and durability issues on the drilled disks. )

That said, you can reach the limits of the 86RZ brakes on track.

If you want feel, then lines and pads will deliver. If you want endurance, almost exclusively a tracking concern for this car, then you need a disk specification that cools well ( not just about disk diameter or really drilled vs j hook vs whatever) and a pad that will take the heat.

I wouldn't bank on that, they have a much bigger autoX/track scene than here.

Anyway, a thread you may find interesting is by one of the CSG lot comparing actual track use of different pads:
    http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23680

It is worth noting that quite a few run 2 sets of pads, one for road use and the other are proper track pads, where as most of us would want a pad that is suitable for both.

BTW, CSG - CounterSpace Garage. They do a lot of suspension and brake work, have 2/3 FR-S/BRZ which have seen more track abuse than most and they are used to driving similar types of car on track (S2k, MX-5 etc). Their opinion is probably one of the most valid on that site.

Cheers guys. We finished 20th Out of 36 finishers of 65 starters. I was navigating in my mates Honda S2000 engined Escort. A wee bit of tarmac, but it was mostly gravel today. We were using it as a shakedown for the National section of RallyGB in a fortnights time, so finishing with the only work required for Wales being adjusting the headlamps seemed a good result. If you fancy spectating, take a peek at www.walesrallygb.com - it's visiting mid and North Wales this year, 14th - 17th November.

I was getting fed up with the controls on the stereo being too smooth and too small, so I was looking for some easy way of improving it. This is what I came up with a slip on rubber torus that fits without glue, makes the knob larger and gives it a better feel ...........What is this marvelous adapter deviceThe tyre off one of these .....the part no. you need is 7039.Alec

That is just Toyota marketing speak for "Tada San, we have set the RRP already, and, no there is no room to move to add the cost of a turbo. We will leave that for the aftermarket tuners to do"
