Mark-in-Stoke

The weekend is upon us again and this week is a fun one!   Started off with a small job, getting the new overflow tank fitted. Just a small aluminium £30 piece from ebay, nothing special but far nicer looking than the toyota tank. Got it fitted up with one of the OEM mounting brackets and a small ghetto aluminium bracket I made up (I'm no fabricator for sure! )       And then the piece i've been looking to fit for a while, new body panels. Nice and easy with a second set of hands from my Dad. Starting off with the new (used) fender I have, brand new arch liner and undertray:       I then got the new Intec Fender garnish/indicator pieces in to finish off the driver's side. They look great but unfortunately need a bit of fiddling to get working. Probably because I bought them from the US but as per the rear light clusters the indiciator needs to be re-wired. The connect is a bit tricky to repin so i may just cut and solder them, I don't plan on using the bumper indicators in the long run anyway.     It's beginning to look like a car again Very exciting! And finally the last job of the day and by far my favourite, fitting the new Seibon Carbon Bonnet!       Unfortunately when the bonnet is latched down the panel gap between it and the front wing is atrocious but i'm not too fussed for now, going to wait for a new passenger's side front wing and maybe the headlights to arrive before I worry about where the problem lies with that. Either way it looks fantastic, i'm really pleased with how it all turned out.

Well finally picked one up at the weekend a big thanks to Matt on here who kindly brought it over from the isle of white.
Modding has started already. Coilovers have just been delivered now to choose some wheels.

I have the same make and size tyres as benmmellor.  They have excellent rim protection, which was important to me.
 

The general thing you have to weigh up is cost vs quality. When going to the bother of a full body respray you want it to come out well and that costs alot. Getting it done in the same colour can be done cheaper as it requires less prep work but then you want to make sure it's being done by someone with a great reputation so the finish is top notch.

Turns out that the springs and wheels haven't completely tamed the rear end. On the way home last night it had rained a little bit leading to a lovely tail wag whilst getting onto the M6.
 

I sold my 86 around 11 months ago to buy a Fiesta St as I thought I needed the extra room but I have found that I could probably live with an 86 again and have not gelled as much as I thought with the ST.
So is the new model 86 worth the extra over the older model ? Looking for peoples opinions who have driven both really.I am considering a late old model but curious on the new suspension set up and how it copes with the terrible road conditions we now have.

I just used a very small allen key and steadily tapped it out with a hammer, easy enough if your careful

As for knowing the rates - guess that's the difference between you and most people though, (meant in a complimentary way)! Part of the appeal for me is knowing that someone who knows a LOT more about suspension has done all the hard work researching the setup.  I worry that if I'd gone with coilovers I'd never get it working right because there's so many variables to play with. Having felt Tuned's springs in Mark's car I was happy enough - the specifics of rate wasn't that important because I'm not Lewis Hamilton, and I'm the first to admit it!
