Without access to the standard I can't explain the thermodynamic theory behind it, but dyno correction factors calculated according to SAE Standard J1349 work out to ~ -2% engine power for every +10deg.C IAT, this Cf decreases as IAT increases. This standard is for NA engines and is used by OEMs to normalise measured power outputs for changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature.
The Harrop data above is from their track car that's running the HKS Stroker Kit, ACE Manifold, HKS Exhaust, E85 and a 65mm pulley (vs 95mm standard) its putting out 380HP at the wheels with the SC running at a pressure ratio of 2.2, so the 70deg.C IAT comparison isn't really valid.

Post-charger air temperatures don't affect the density of air, so you won't get power falloff due to lower intake air density. You might get power falloff due to knocking causing the ECU to back off from the high temperatures, but that is pretty much the only way you would.
The reasoning is that the air density that matters is the pre-charger density, which is only determined by atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. Once the air has been pulled into the charger it's in a closed system and so the density cannot change via temperature changes. Increasing temperature in a fixed volume system (such as a car's intake manifold) will increase pressure rather than reducing density.

A baffled sump will only help if oil starvation is an issue from hard cornering. I'd imagine you'd never corner hard enough on the road for that to rear it's head. Plus there have been issues with some of the baffled sumps, restricting oil return. I know that's meant to be sorted on the Moroso ones now, but even the early versions created issues rather than sorting them. If you keep your oil near the max and don't run slicks then a baffled sump isn't really required.
I wonder whether one of the valve rockers has gone, this seems like a weak point on the early engines. The problem there is whether a higher rev limit has been added as this will increase the probability of a failure.

I think it's starting to get well known that modern engines that run such thin oil are for reasons around economy/power (less drag). Thin oil doesn't lubricate 'better' what is 'better' anyway? Film thickness and strength is directly relatable to temperature and viscosity.
I don't buy it, and the fact that some engines fail and others don't is not a reason to accept everything is hunky dory. None of these cars should be killing bearings this early on unless they have been neglected.

I was going to say, 35mpg on a spirited drive, really? I think the courtesy Aygo was reading lower than that while hooning down the back roads to work.

Here are some quick photo's of Ross's car from today's mini meet. It's was just a shame about the weather, atleast we found somewhere under cover.

Port Solent would be good for me, but I agree it would be better as a summer thing. There are some good roads around here too.
I do go up to London from time to time, so if one of the Essex meets coincides I'll pop along.
Im also going to going on track (again, down south) over the next month or so....will update the forum when I know when/where in case anyone wants to pop along!

Unless you can see what the ECU's doing, you probably wouldn't know.
As Rich has said, on cruising the quality of fuel is not that crucial and if it does knock it's not going to do any damage. On WOT then knock can do some real damage especially if running higher cylinder pressures, like boost. Now, how much damage is done is dependent on how good the knock retard systems are. It's believed that they are quite good on this platform. However I have heard the onset of knock without any timing being pulled. I've also known it the other way too.
Without going into too much detail, the occasional onset of knock detection, the ECU will basically pull some ignition timing as the event is happening. This will reduce power only for that moment. I bet you wouldn't notice that. But there are some load and RPM ranges that the FA20 is more prone to knocking and if you consistently hit this, then the ECU will start to reduce timing over most of the map range. How much will depend on how consistently it keeps on doing it and also how one of the ignition maps is tuned. This would be far more obvious. Usually none of these really have any noticeable impact unless you're putting higher load on the engine.
So back to my original statement, any RON fuel is fine. Having seen the data sheets for the 99 RON fuels, V-Power is the better one, Momentum is 99 RON due to it's ethanol content.
In terms of knock resistance in the UK:
V-Power (99) Momentum99 BP Ultimate (97) Esso Synergy Supreme+ (97) - Not sure if the newer Synergy is improved from before the rebrand Any Supermarket 97

Bfranklyn86 reacted to Ade in Stoptechs vs AP racing 4 pot BBKs
Adrian has the Cosworth AP Brakes (356mmx32mm disc) on his car which wont fit under a 17" wheel.

The AP kit formula is a 332x26mm disc and uses a narrow version of their popular CP6600 calipers so that it will fit behind the stock wheels.
The stopteck is a large bulky caliper and uses a 328x28mm disc but wont fit behind the stock wheels.
    As far as consumables:
    Stoptech
    Pads DS2500 £190 a set,
    Disc ~£600 a pair

    AP Racing
    Pads DS2500 £100 a set
    Discs J hook ~ £600 a pair

Not a lot in it to be honest. I would go with the AP kit because it fits under the stock wheels and seems to have cheaper pads, oh and its British

Project revival time! It's been a while since I actually done anything to my car. As some of you probably know I took some time away from spending time & money on the car to save money for a property. Somehow this failed and i've saved "-£4000"... yes, that's a minus.
So what's changed since the last update?
    - The alloy prop shaft has now been fitted (I honestly can't tell much difference, it's probably more noticeable on an N/A car? Still every little helps.
    - I've had the HKS oil cooler fitted and temperatures are now peachy  This was well overdue!
I also did sell my Sprintex a while ago but after Harrop had some delays and the guy seemed to be in a rush to get the sprintex off me I had to refund his deposit. Not particularly happy as I lost £30 out of the whole ordeal. He seemed to think that it took 90 minutes to take a Sprintex off a GT86 anbd he couldn't quite grasp the fact I had a social life on weekends and wanted to wait until Abbey had the harrop so they could take it off and put the new one on. Still, nevermind i'm going to save that money I was going to spend on the harrop and work on dialling in the handling of the car more this year.
Anyway... Intec 3rd brake light ordered from Amber as it was too good to pass up

Cusco headlight leveller ordered alongside it as i'm fed up of not seeing anything in the dark!

Cobra HFC also in my bedroom, this may actually be getting sold straight off the bat tbh. Not for any majorly concerning reason. Watch this space  (sorry for bad pic i'm too short)

I shall be updating this post in the next couple of weeks I imagine with more news but that is all for now.
Things to fix on the car still:
    - Front bumper, I need to get this off and see what clip damage has been done, i'm a bit OCD so I may end up buying a new bumper, splitter and smoothing it in again so it sits right. Lesson learnt not to drive home after the xmas meet in Birmingham with a horrendous hangover. All in all that was a pricey weekend which I do not like talking about
    - Milltek exhaust, seriously do not buy this shite. I have my MOT beginning of Nov so will be getting this sorted by then hopefully or if not i'll have to get off my lazy backside and put my stock frontpipe on because it's got a bit of wind atm.

    Hi everyone,
I'm Chris, new to this forum. I've spoken to a few people here on the other forums..... so hi again to some!
Ive got the harrop SC kit and an xtreme clutch but no other mods on my gt86. The guys at Abbey did a top job with the install/tune.
I'm at a crossroads - I'm very happy with the car in its current form. If I left it like this I would still love doing my DD in it for a few more years minimum.
But..........wouldn't say no to even more power. Or better brakes. Or wheels. Or tyres. Or free flowing power generating exhaust set up which isn't too loud. Etc. It would all depend on if it's worth the cash (and if I actually have the cash...)
will300 has kindly suggested a personalised £3k upgrade plan to sort me out if I do want to mod this more - wheels, tyres, tein flex z, stoptech sports break kit and a mid-priced EL manifold.
but part of me thinks if I'm going to go for it I should 'commit' and do all the above and eventually get an engine build too. Would be more fun than saving for a house deposit like a boring sod and get me places faster (including jail).
Anyway.... I'll be dipping in and out of your threads, and am aiming to get to the odd gt86 meet/track day too.
    cheers,
    Chris
