I would say it is worth travelling far if you know your car is going to be treated properly. Will be well worth the extra expense knowing you've been given the best service possible.

But if RA Motorsports are in Scotland, you might as well give them a call and see what they can do for you!

The only person who could have pulled it off was Tiff N, but I'd doubt he would have returned to the BBC and he is committed still to 5th gear..Chris Evans is a proper car guy but will he be appealing to the masses? Jeremy only annoyed DM readers really..

Chris Harris is another awesome car reviewer and journo.. But his YouTube content is top notch and hes found a platform he enjoys! Plus his channel is free

Welcome to the club James and congrats on the purchase.

As for getting work done by Litchfield, you'll find that the biggest issue is actually getting hold of them or to actually get them to do the work, I've heard a few people having had problems either getting hold of them or them just not interested in doing the work for whatever reason.  It does seem like they have plenty of big money projects working on GTR's and BMW's that they don't need or have the time for less expensive cars like the 86/BRZ.  They've even sold their demo car and I've not seen them get another to show off what they can do or to even develop their stuff further, unlike Fensport or Abbey Motorsport who are constantly developing, tweaking and improving what they can out of the 86/BRZ.

But if you are determined to go the Litchfield route, I've heard their handling pack is pretty good and you can't go wrong with a K&N Air filter (but you can't go wrong with other filters like HKS etc either).  What I would be worried about is the performance pack:

A ) You'll have a Milltek exhaust which some have experience cracks already, we even have Lauren who's on her 2nd (or was it 3rd?) set.  Fair enough they may have sold quite a few and only a handful of people (I believe) have experienced this problem, but if you get them to fit a flex pipe, it might prevent this from happening altogether.

B ) I've seen and heard of people who'd have their performance pack fitted and produced either less power or hardly any gains compared to some of those who are stock.  I believe Litchfield blamed it on bad fuel and need to get the car remapped again but who knows, what are the chances of 2 (I believe) getting their car dyno'd on the same dyno (though on different dates) which both produced either less or hardly any gains compared to someone who was completely stock bar a drop in air filter?

I'd personally went else where, even though Litchfield would have been closer, I still travelled 2 hours to Abbey for my Cobra exhaust and 2 hours to Fensport for my remap etc.  Either way, please keep us updated with what you decide.

I shall be writing up my blog this morning with first impressions. Mind you, I've only done 70-odd miles so far - the first test will be next Saturday at Woodbridge followed by Sunday's TSS round.

I can admit I am in awe. This is, without shadow of a doubt, the most powerful car I have ever driven. The acceleration is unbelievable..

Funny you should say that, we did joke after completing the job that the manufacturer and suppliers probably have a special tool to open up the clip very easily and that we were pretty dumb to use pliers!
Ended up keeping the spring loaded ones on the top pipes and just replaced the ones on the main pipe with jubilees for ease

Be great to see that footage of the machine they use!

To be honest both the Boxster and the Cayman are better handling cars than the 911 due to being mid engined, and makes for a more enjoyable drive. If they were given 911 kinds of power they would both be a better car and also faster, but then that would mean the 911 would become obsolete, which is why Porsche hold back.

The only reference we have now is the new Cayman GT4 Which is probably only eclipsed by the turbo and GT3 currently. The Boxster was never supposed to rival the 911. They are not comparable and many people would prefer to drive one over a 911 due to its better poise and agility.

Plus why bother buying a more expensive 911 when you can just buy a second hand Boxster and do a little flat 6 engine swap Save yourself a huge chunk of money and have 911 power in a better chassis!

The 2.3 Eco boost motor will probably give you the best bang for buck! Best compromise of MPG, tax and running costs, plus you'll be able to tune them close to V8 speeds given they are turbocharged. Good luck Bumblebee

It's not NA though is it lol. Forced induction is forced induction whether it's generated by gas, belts or electricity.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with the ESC (confusingly ESC stands for Electric Speed Controller too), i love the ingiuity and the fact its pretty unique. Small brushless motors and speed controllers have come on a hell of a long way over the past few years, however not proven in the car world yet.

    Hi All
What an emotive subject I seem to have started, I would simply love a V8 I can afford it, but just can't afford to run the bloody thing let alone tax and insure it !! Estimated 20MPG meaning 15-18 if you are lucky hence the 2.3 Ecoboost is my only option!!

JamesP1991 has rightly summed it up for me by saying the following:

"The 2.3 Eco boost motor will probably give you the best bang for buck! Best compromise of MPG, tax and running costs, plus you'll be able to tune them close to V8 speeds given they are turbocharged. Good luck Bumblebee"

So thanks to those like him who can understand my reasoning, if anybody wants to see it in the flesh I will try arrange a meet up once I have it most likely nov/dec if the dealer can be trusted as I am assured I'm in the first batch I will believe it when I see it and will miss the GT86 dearly in the meantime and the good advice and banter on the forums.
Thankyou all and I've only had a couple of beers lol

Some of you have asked and of course it seems fitting I need to have a GT86BQ again this year! I guess my cooking can't be that bad as i've been asked again!

As before there are hotels not too far away & a spare bed. You do not need to bring food, I will feed you all unless you are a vegetarian then bring your own veggie burgers etc! Or chomp on salad, whichever you prefer. Bring your own drink!

So yesterday I was bored of seeing the box sitting in my room and decided to get to work on installing the pipes! It ended up being nearly a 3 hour job but it was thoroughly worth it and I love the look of the engine bay now.

Firstly the problems, to begin with my trolley jack at home was not low enough to get underneath the car to the front jacking point! So after completely forgetting to use the spare tyre jack to raise the car just enough to get under it, I ended up borrowing a low floor jack from a neighbour of mine.

In addition to that, the clips used for the cooling pipes are just hideous spring loaded ones that are a right pain in the ass to both lock and shake off the lip of the pipes. It was here that me and my brother spent most of our time doing the job. The actual job took just 30mins, it was the clips that gobbled up the majority of the time!

Makes me wonder why they didn't use jubilee clips as standard like a lot of aftermarket parts? Especially as they so much easier to work with!

Anyway after much swearing I am pleased with how they turned out, and the engine bay is looking rather fresh now! Tested the system and there are no leaks so hopefully I have no problems

Here are a few pictures from the work!

On the jack ready to go:

Front jacking point just infront of the bash plate:

Pipes on the left hand side were fairly simple to fit:

Bottom pipe was a bit harder due to the location so the intake had to be removed (note we spent 1 hour trying to remove the spring loaded clip under the car due to it not locking open):

Finished product with coolant back in and everything back in place:

Overall I was very happy with the result and it was well worth the hassle

Thanks for the compliment Matt! I am surprised you went through the suffering of reading all 8 pages! I have tried to be as informative and detailed as possible when it comes to the decisions I have made with the car. Once the FD and pulleys are fitted I will do an onboard video to show how different the car feels with the aggressive ratios and lightweight pulleys/flywheel working together. I am expecting it to feel much more eager and aggressive which is what my aim for the car was, especially as FI is not the route I want to take.

Since fitting the TEIN springs last year I have nothing but praise for them. I spoke to Dave at Fensport when my car went in for work and he said they hold up so much better than the Eibach's based on feedback from customers. It can get a bit "crashy" on really bumpy roads, but that is because I have the stock shocks inside still. With the 25mm drop and the slightly stiffer spring rate, the car is definitely a lot more "pointy" on turn in. Since putting on the front strut bar as well it has given me so much more confidence. I feel like I can place the car better and therefore be more aggressive with the front end.

But on daily trips, ride comfort is still great and the next step will be to buy adjustable Bilstein or Koni shocks and put them inside the TEIN springs. That way I will have essentially the same set up as those on coilovers but just without the ride height control. But for me I don't mind as I find a 25mm drop is enough to improve the look and handling of the car, but also I then do not have to worry about those obstacles on the road like speed humps etc.

In regards to the pulleys, thanks for the link. I already knew about that thread, it is why I voiced my concerns about they keyway and doing the job myself. When the kit arrives let's see how confident I am feeling, but I reckon I'll just send it with the FD to the garage to get done together.

So the postie delivered these today from Fensport

Just need to get round to fitting them now! Anyone else bought and fitted the samco cooling set yet? Was it pretty simple?

Had a look under the bonnet and it seemed easy enough, just need to get the car on a lift to get to the pipes further down.
