V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 Hello, My Wife took her GT86 to Berkshire Toyota today as it has that occasional oil burning smell due to leaking plate on engine. I also told her to mention the RH rear light which I notice has a bit on misting up when the car gets wet. She's just text me saying that she was told that the lights are not apparently covered after 3 years (car registered Sept 2013) and that they will only reseal the plate if the car has been serviced as per the schedule, and can not even have 1000 miles over the point it should have been serviced. I thought it was an annual service? So can't understand what they meant about the mileage? She didn't take the SH documentation with her unfortunately. Is this normal or should I take it somewhere else?
Mike 458 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 12 months or 10,000 miles, I believe the book says something like 650 miles over?
V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 We just bought the car a few weeks ago. with 30'020 miles on it. It's only done about 150 miles with us so it should be under the limit. I see now, maybe they mean the car can not have done more than 10k every year without a service which it doesn't appear to have. I was planning on changing the rear lights for red ones anyway but I still think that them saying a light seal failing after 3 years is acceptable.
Mike 458 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 I'm guessing you weren't told the warranty was null and void (according to them) when you bought it? If that's the case I'd be complaining and working up the chain until they do change it personally. 1 V8 Tej reacted to this
Mike@TD.co.uk 467 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 We had our OSR lamp replaced at over 3 years old and its going in to have the NSR one done very shortly...... Thanks Mike 1 V8 Tej reacted to this
V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 Hmm....I think they are not the friendliest place to deal with. Maybe I'll take it elsewhere. Does it now mean that these items are 'logged' on the system and going somewhere else will have the same result?
rob275 1817 Report post Posted November 30, 2016 They are correct probably, 5 year warranty isn't particularly true, 80% of it is only 3 years. It's unacceptable I agree, much like my scratched window which If it scratches anymore may hopefully shatter as it slowly wears thin and I will cut myself on it. 1 Ztox reacted to this

V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted December 2, 2016 Just a little update to this saga. Car is now booked in to Sandhurst Toyota who are very polite and friendly as one would expect. They say they will do the warranty work of resealing the plate and changing the rear light. The light will not be available until January but it's not a problem as a recall for power steering (loom & ECU) is also outstanding and the parts for that will also arrive in January The car is also due it's 3rd service which they will also do. £200 is a bit steep for an oil change but it will be nice to try and maintain the full Toyota SH. I always do all work on all my cars myself so it is paying through the nose but hey ho.

My E93 M3 has a service pack on it, but as it was going in to the BMW dealer for a "Vehicle Inspection" recently, I thought that I might pay for an extra oil change myself. The quote for an oil change and micro filter? £461.

V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted December 8, 2016 Well it looks like I spoke too soon. Car went in to Sandhurst Toyota yesterday for the resealing of the plate and it's 3 year/30k mile service. As said previously, I work on all of my cars myself and the only reason for it going to the dealer was to try and maintain a FDSH. As I was at work my Wife had to drop/collect the car and I foolishly forgot to tell her to take pictures of the car with the service staff present incase they damage something and deny it. Well sods law this happened, one of my new Rota Grid wheels has fresh marks on it and they are denying it saying it was done when the tyres were fitted!! FFS! I am in the process of complaining to Toyota so will let you know of the outcome. Apologies for the crap pics as my Wife took them at the scene and sent to me. They don't show the worst of it and it was too dark to take some of my own when I got home last night.
V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted February 2, 2017 Just an update of this if anyone interested. I've been compensated for the damage caused. I've also had 2 new rear lights fitted under warranty. The new lights actually look better than the originals, I'll post some pics when I've taken some. Oil leak has been 'fixed' again (2nd time) but will monitor this over the next couple of days to see how bad the smell of burning oil is. 5 Keethos, Andrew Smith, rob275 and 2 others reacted to this

Varelco 211 Report post Posted February 12, 2017 Revisions to the original lights are like for like. Similar to the battery, the 65Ah version is still considered like for like.

V8 Tej 9 Report post Posted February 13, 2017 No the lights are not the Red variety as seen on the latest cars,. They are still clear/chrome but the shape of the plastic outer lens is slightly different (probably a later improved design) which gives them a squarer profile IMO. I still have not taken pics of them yet but will do at the next opportunity.
