That's how I thought so. Same thing happened to my cousin. Keys stolen from his bed side while he's sleeping. Then they emptied the house in his car and wander. I'm so sorry to hear what happened. But insurance would bring some light to this, isn't it? Not completely dark I suppose.

Sorry to hear about this.

One reason why I want to fit a tracker to my car. I did ask Santa for Christmas but clearly I wasn't a good boy last year as all I got was socks :(

If anyone has a tracker fitted or could recommend one, let me know.

Just put your spare key in a secure place my main key stays with me even when I'm in another car from what I've seen what cars that have been taken its down to gaining entry to house for a fob not sure if these can be programmed from side of road with a new fob?

Trackers sound like a good idea but ultimately they are useless as they are easily detected. Anyone wanting to steal the car not for a joy ride would simply remove the tracker.

Well just a quick search on amazon and found this, with all those cables/wires which I assume you connect behind the interior panels? I don't think they could be removed easily if you don't know where it is placed? professionals probably could but how many professionals are there out there.

I think even having the sticker; "Tracker fitted to this car" or something like that will deter most criminals?

I'm sure if we all look around we can find something a little more decent. I'll try and have a look this week while off from work.

Not a solution but will stop thieving dickheads. Spoke to a individual who specialises in Gta and he said these old school measures are more than enough to hinder the average opportunistic thieves. If pros wanted your car consider it gone tbh.

Only problem is they will more than likely get your neighbours car without one of these.

Just get a good old fashioned crook lock/stop lock. Alternatively, if you have keyless entry, simply swallow your keys.

Don't try this at home kids

it's a bit of a hassle to do if it's a daily driver though, doing that every morning before work is not ideal

its no hardship at all bud lol takes seconds... end of the day comes down to where you live how long you leave the car unattended for etc. i dont have any issues with security where i live so im lucky. But i rather fit one of theses if i had to leave my car unattended for a duration. A few seconds to fit =peace of mind.

Modern cars are not very secure. Many of them can be hacked and started in seconds via the OBD2 port using a laptop. This is a big problem on the fast Fords (ST/RS models). On my Fiesta ST I moved the port and put a fake one in it's place to prevent it.

I think if you want to make this one more secure, make the start button removable. It's actually quite easy to remove as is :D

Are you sure about that? This instance is one where the keys were stolen, which seems to be the way it is. Not heard of anyone being able to steal one without the keys

Very sure!!

This was big thing on the E8X 1 series, E9X 3 series and probably most BMW's of that generation so 2006 onwards? You did not even need to damage the car gain access. If you could turn the key lock in the drivers door backwards the windows will drop. This allows you to plug into the OBD port, get into the car without activating the alarm and start the engine without the keys.

I always used to wake up and look out the window grateful that my 135I will still outside. BMW issued a security update that stopped the windows dropping if you turned the key backwards in the lock. However put no security on the OBD port so the car could still be started with a laptop.
