Leading on from my thread here: http://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/topic/2091-plan-for-tss-2015/ there has been some progress, so thought I would start a build thread
After a couple of months searching for the right base car, I finally found it at a relatively local Kia dealership
A red, totally rust free, 3 door, non sunroof Mk1 Yaris
It has only done 124 000 miles (so just run in) and it drives brilliantly. This engine (all 65bhp of it ) doesn't quite cut it for a Sprint car, so it is being replaced.
I have bought a low mileage Yaris T Sport 1.5l 1NZ FE engine and gearbox which is currently being turned into a full blown race engine. I completely stripped down the engine, and after an overnight soak in Dichlorometane to remove all the oil and combustion crud, the head, cam cover, block and lower casting have been sent away for vapour blasting, to make them look like new. The engine spec will be:
CP forged 9:1 pistons
Brian Crowler forged rods with ARP fasteners
ARP head, main bearing and flywheel studs / bolts
JUN stage 2 cams
Brian Crowler valve springs with titanium retainers
Garrett GT2560R turbo
Custom inlet manifold / plenum with a 1ZZ throttle body
Custom exhaust manifold (equal length runners, not log type)
Standard (new) valves, with the head lightly ported and polished
Stand alone ECU. Whilst I would love to get a Motec, they are stupidly expensive, so my current thinking is to go with the DTA S60 (I just hope that Adrian can map it )
The aim is a safe, reliable 250whp, which, in a car with a target weight of under 750kg, should be fun to drive
Suspension wise, I have bought (at a very good price I could not refuse) a 6 month old set of D2 coilovers. I know that D2s get very mixed bag reviews, but at the price I paid, I thought they would be worth a try. I have just finished cleaning and making look like new a T Sport front cross member and front ARB, and have also managed to get hold of a Whiteline rear ARB (which are now like the proverbial rocking horse poo! I have also bought a T sport rear axle assy, complete with the disc brakes, so when it arrives, I will be refurbishing it, fitting poly bushes, and then swapping it with the drum brake rear axle currently on the red monster. I am also making fully adjustable front lower suspension arms, so that the caster and camber can be optimised. The D2s come with adjustable top pillar ball mounts at the front, so there will be plenty of adjustment to play with. I have a new manual steering rack (don't want the weight and power robbing of a hydraulic power steering system). If, when the car is finished the steering is too heavy, I will fit an electric power steering unit.
The interior will be totally stripped, and a roll cage fitted. I have got a 1 piece phase 2 front bumper to replace the current 2 piece one, as well as T Sport side skirts and a genuine TTE tailgate spoiler.
As can be seen, it is going to be a lot of work to get the car built, so my current hope is to get it finished at least in time for the Croft round of the 2015 TSS, and then do the whole series next year.

There is benefit after a certain point. If the exhaust is too small, then there is pressure in the exhaust system that the engine has to work against. The SC is spinning at a set rpm and will deliver the same amount of air, due to a restriction on the back side (read less flow) the air on the inlet side gets backed up more and thus leads to slightly higher inlet manifold pressure, which means the charger is working slightly harder (compressing more) which will lead to raised inlet temps which hurts efficiency.
At what power level this happens at depends of a lot of factors. I've blown 400hp of air through a 2.25" exhaust (it was completely straight) which was past the choking limit as the boost was much higher than 'normal' in the inlet. At 280hp a bendy pretty much oem 2.25 system had no issues.

Hey all,
I think it's about time that we midlanders get together for a midlands meet and I'm thinking roughly around mid to the end of February, especially since we seem have have now gained a couple of new members in the area. Since there's a club trackday at the start of Feb followed by valentines day the week after, I'm thinking we could have a midland meet the week after that i.e. Saturday the 21st of Feb.

The diner is actually inside a old school aeroplane, think there will be sufficient parking around that area as well as a nice view with some aeroplanes and what not in the background for some nice pics and heard the food wasn't too bad either. Here's their website - http://www.dc6diner.com/ The restaurant is open from 12:00 till 15:00 so if people don't have any objections, meet up at say 11:30 and when closer to the date, I'll book tables for us for 13:00, after which we're free to do whatever then, chat, wonder around, checkout the aircraft museum or have a cruise around some of Warwickshire's finest roads!

Leave the vents only carbon, spray the rest white. There is a picture somewhere on the FT86 Forum with this done, and it looks really good. Otherwise, get a black GT86 (preferably turbocharged) to test it on

Hi everyone,
Thought to start a thread where we can keep all the Avo news and info in one place
Starting off with some great news .... new pricing for 2015 has been announced, reducing prices by approx 10% making the kits even better value
Stage 1, Non Ceramic is £2799 + vat
Stage 1, Ceramic is £2,999 + vat
Stage 3, Billet Ceramic is £3,349 + vat
Stage 4, Large Billet Ceramic is £3,699 + vat
Stage 1, is capable of 260 - 290 bhp depending mainly on exhaust flow and choice of actuator. A stock exhaust will be around 260 and a nice 2.5" exhaust will max out around 290bhp. Maximum flow for this turbo is 380bhp.
Stage 2, is simply the same as stage 1, but adds a 3" exhaust for higher output, 280 - 320bhp is possible depending on tune. Maximum flow for this turbo is 380bhp.
Stage 3, uses a "Billet" compressor wheel in the same housing as stage 1, the billet wheel provides approx 20% increase in flow. We rate this set up as 280 - 440. This is the kit we used throughout 2014 on our GT86R, making 421bhp on stock engine and around 460 on a built engine. Maximum flow for this turbo is 470bhp.
Stage 4, uses a larger Billet compressor wheel and larger turbine wheel with internal changes to the turbo for increased flow. Also included is larger intercooler and up pipe. Rated at 400bhp upwards. We will be testing this early next year and our target is 520 - 550bhp.

Advised for all turbo kits:
Breather System (199 + vat)
3 bar map Sensor & overboost fuel cut (89.95 + vat)
Optional Upgrades for all kits:
Electronic Boost Control (150 + vat)
This includes the EBC valve, wiring and map upgrades using 10 custom race rom maps to allow closed loop boost control, boost is switchable via cruise control stalk and both throttle angle and gear dependant. Temperature safety maps are also included and boost is only allowed to increase if oil, water and air temps are within safe parameters.
Dump Valve:
There are a few options here, you can use an OE recirculating type available for £20 off ebay/scrappy etc. Or we have the Avo polished alloy one which can be configured as recirculating (quiet) or as a 50/50 for the whoosh!
High Capacity Air Intake Kit
Avo have developed their own airbox kit, crafted in carbon fibre and housing an induction type cone filter. The airbox includes a intake duct for cold air supply. More details soon.
Exhausts:
Avo exhausts are available in 2.5" & 3" depending on power goals, they are also available with or without cat, with or without resonators depending on exhaust note required.
Anything else?
Don't forget the stock clutch is all but useless when turbocharging, it is only just possible to use with the lowest spec turbo and even then its marginal! So factor in for an uprated clutch.

My next move is to book a test drive at Toyota in the next few weeks which will answer most of my questions around getting a gt86, I then need to find out what's happening with our house move then the planning begins for early next year, don't look forward to the part out on he mini as there is a lot of bits to remove.

I'm a new owner and after lots of front wheels drive performance cars can confirm that the GT/BRZ are really great fun!
Ok they are down on power for your fast dual carriage ways and motorway driving but on a good twisty A road they are a hoot.
It's possible to stay with cars that are a lot more powerful and it does surprise them when they might leave you on a straight and then you catch up through the bends...
As many on the forum members have gone FI I'm sure you'll have an opportunity to try out the extra performance before you take the plunge.
My car has had a map and air filter only but is noticeably quicker than standard and I would recommend that as a first stage if your unsure about spending big bucks straight away.

We had a great day out at Ecutek today, thank you for fitting us in for a power run this afternoon Well pleased with the result ..... 421bhp and 350ft/lb torque You can see by the torque curve we are feeding the boost in progressively and running a maximum of 1 bar on the completely standard engine! 108 ron race fuel is used to prevent det. Using the Avo Billet Turbo kit and our own custom 3" Blitz exhaust along with Blitz panel filter in the standard airbox! and our fuel pump and 540cc injector upgrade pictures are better than words ..... I think you'll agree a very nice result And a big thank you to Avo, Ecutek and all our sponsors and supporters Best Regards Adrian -

I don't miss mini ownership, but I do pine for more power on occasions. The lak of decent midrange is something you will undoubtedly miss, but above 4500rpm it doesn't feel that slow (unless you are on track doing all the hard work in the corners / being held up until you get onto a straight and said car drives away again lol)

Welcome to the club by the way, looks like your local to me as Balsall Common is my local Subaru dealer too, though I went for a Toyota instead for various reason, mainly because at the time, the waiting time for a BRZ was about 9months.
