Test Drives Unlimited reacted to Rich in Snetterton Trackday April 27th
Over on Ade's build thread, a few people mentioned going to the Javelin trackday at Snetterton on April 27th. I thought I'd start a thread to avoid it cluttering his thread to gauge interest.
So is anyone else up for this? Best to get booked fairly soon as it's starting to fill up!
Event page here: http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=1240itemid=11
Confirmed on track:
1) Rich
2) Ade
3) DanJ
4) Test Drives Unlimited
5) Paul (CanaryWundaboy)

This is my biggest complaint against the car, driving it feels a little like torture compared to our other cars. I've ordered a lumbar cushion to try out and I'm also looking into car upholsterers who can open up the driver's seat and add some foam for lumbar support.

That post was firmly tongue in cheek... I forgot the smiley ;-)
No, I always wanted one myself - and actually bought 'right' now they are proper bargains, as the general public are scared off. Values now mean you can put away a bit of money for engine woes anyway...
Anyhow you're talking to someone with one of those awful unreliable French cars. 80k miles so far with nothing but diesel and oil changes. But the reputation is just great for me - meant it cost me half what a VW would have...

My drivers side strap is being replaced/repaired on Tuesday 16th February at Motorline Gatwick under Warranty after it broke over 5 Months ago !!
It's taken this long to get Toyota GB/Japan to agree to fix it under Warranty !!!!
They say it's because I have the Custom Leather Option !

Toyota took their final balloon payment today of £8860. With a small-ish personal loan, the car is now mine.

Test Drives Unlimited reacted to Nicebiscuit in Would you buy an ex publicity car?
Surely it just comes down to whether it's the right price. I certainly would want it to be cheaper...
And frankly you don't know where ANY second hand 86 has been. They're generally not bought to go shopping in! One reason I bought a new one in the end. That way I know it's been abused, but only by me

Also ideally a 10" sub is what you want. I went for a 12" as I wanted something with a bit of welly as I like to hear bass guitar, but a 10" is more punchy.
I'm not sure what size you were offered with that Alpine one, hard to tell from the pics, but it did look a little small.
-
Test Drives Unlimited reacted to Lauren in Door Speakers
It sounds like you need to go to a specialist car audio place, Nigel, rather than a big retailer. It's not that hard to have the sub in the boot. Okay I had a whole boot floor custom made with everything housed in there, including an MDF sealed box in fibreglass for the sub, with the amp and DSP and cables all under the boot floor. The result is I've lost no boot space.

Test Drives Unlimited reacted to rob275 in Door Speakers
Not all boxes have to take up a lot of space, the OEM+ one I have leaves you with all of the boot opening space so you can still get large bits in the boot. I've had the marquee, flags & banner in my car nice and comfortably along with a couple of camping chairs before. You'd need to pay a little extra for some fibreglass work mind you.

Test Drives Unlimited reacted to Gringosteve in Gringo's 86
Fitted the dash cam this afternoon didn't take long and you get an array of fitting kit:
Wired it behind the rear view mirror so it is hidden:
Then tucked the wires up the top of the windscreen and down into the glovebox:
And you cannot see it easily from the outside, I wanted it discreet:
Just checked the video quality.. It's amazing, even at night (only tried a street lit busy road so far in the dark) and that's not even on the highest resolution.
