Mark-in-Stoke got a reaction from Will T8WMM in Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Well I picked the car up last night from RRG Macc after having the recall done and it's absolutely brilliant , the full service was well worth it Inc greasing the clutch release bearing. Very happy indeed

Good to here, I’m TD turbo’d too and am hoping to get it done through RRG at some point.

Mark-in-Stoke reacted to smudge in Smudge's supercharged V8 build
Yet more nightmares for the V8 build.
Tom at Fensport got the mapping absolutely spot on for me to cruise it to Japfest this weekend, only to have this happen under no load whatsoever.
Gutted is an understatement, and I really feel for Tom who's done nothing but his best to get this on the road. Resulting in it trying to kill him twice!
Options going forward? New engine with more expense and effort? Or just give in to the fact that it clearly isn't meant to be and split the parts that are on the car?

Mark-in-Stoke reacted to ShinyBRZ in Thinking of coming back
Wasn't sure where to post this, but kind of feels the right place as I've been away for so long.
I'm thinking of coming back to a BRZ. I had one of the first in 2012, but about three years ago swapped for a Seat Leon Cupra estate due to a lack of space in the back for my young lads.
The Seat's faster, quicker, quieter, comfier, more grip, more brakes (with the big Brembo kit on it), just about as economical, easier to get in n' out, carries more (just about), but dull as anything. "Dull" might be the wrong word - it's 280bhp, so perhaps "uninvolving" is better....
I recall the BRZ was plenty fast enough on the road, except away from the lights surrounded by German mid range diesels!! It never felt out of its depth, even on standard tyres on the track. So, if it's been improved for the 2017 facelift, it might be knocking one of the other options for a 2nd car, a 981 Cayman, out of the picture.

Mark-in-Stoke reacted to Lucas in Cosworth Baffle Plates - Prevent engine damage
Yes, we've received an email 20 minutes ago! Cosworth are going to start assembling the flaps around the 18th, so we should see them later this month / early Feb.
Thanks for the patience guys! Lucas

Turns out that the FBM fuel return kit was a piece of crap. No instructions for install and the only possible way to install the return line into the OEM fuel basket was to cut holes...
After asking FBM for instructions and some assistance, I got nothing. So promptly returned the item along with a shitty email about their poor product and even poorer customer service.
We still needed a fuel return system for the 1UZ and I came across a beautiful piece of kit from Radium Engineering. A little pricey, but it fully replaces the OEM fuel hanger and basket meaning that it simplifies the whole install process. Unboxing it today, I was amazed at the quality of all the pieces. It's almost too pretty to stick back into the fuel tank where it'll never be seen again
Also chose to upgrade the fuel pump to a 450lph unit as the 255 I originally has would be on it's limit for the 1UZ.

Mark-in-Stoke reacted to Lowe in Lowe's Team Grey
So the car went in to RRG for the big 60k service last Thursday. It was just before this the whole valve spring recall thing happened, and mine is one of the effected cars. Given that the work procedure is still unknown I asked if it was possible to do everything on the major service apart from the spark plugs, since I didn't see the point in having the engine lifted for the plugs only to have the same thing done again a month or so later for the springs. Every cloud and all that...
Whilst it was there I had a couple of other bits done. I'd picked up a Cosworth baffle plate a few months back, purely as a peace of mind thing. I don't do track work, but do hammer around the country lanes on the odd occasion and knowing how prone to oil issues the FA20 is I figured for a couple of hundred quid it was probably worth it. I took the splitter up as well, and that got chucked on. A few pics
I sprayed the rods black, but left the threads since for the moment I wasn't sure how far they'd need to be wound out. These will be touched in by hand when it's not chucking it down.
Freshly fitted and ready for collection from RRG Macc
Cleaned up a bit
The tie rod silver bits are setting my OCD off and I think I'll probably remove the Maxton badge as well. More stealth. Need to get the front brick off and sort some fresh plates now I think.

As @Kadaver mentioned I bought his old Maxton Design splitter the other day. Longer term I'm thinking of getting some of the Verus Engineering aero stuff, but given the price of it I wanted to be sure that I wasn't going to bin it after 5 minutes. So, my thinking is try this and see how I get on. If I don't smash it up after a few months due to having such a low front end, then the Verus parts are a worthwhile purchase. I tried a mock fitting with cardboard risers just to get an idea of what it'll look like. I think visually it'll help balance up the front end, since the rear is looking quite aggressive with all the louvres etc, but the front is just kinda... well, stock.
I think I'm going to paint the tie rods black to hide them a little more, and I'll probably drill out the Maxton badge to keep that looking a bit more stealth. That brick of a numberplate holder needs to come off too. Wish I had a warm garage haha!

I've never polished glass before, didn't think you could. I just use Glass cleaner to clean glass. Only thing that I polish is paintwork.

For the coilover 6 hours labour seems excessive. The 86 suspension is pretty easy to change - somewhere that knows what they're doing should have it done in 2-3 hours. You'd then just need an alignment on top.

Mark-in-Stoke reacted to Lowe in OcUK HQ Motors Meet 3, 15th September
Big thanks to everyone that came down and supported the event, it was a great meet and there were lots of cracking cars. That's probably the last one for the year, but there will be lots of smaller Japfeast meets in the near future for anyone in Staffs who fancies a greasy breakfast and a natter!
