Deposit now transferred to another GT86 coming in at the end of this week, so hopefully I may be able to collect it next week

    13 plate
    9k on the clock
    White
    Manual
    sat nav
Not sure on interior yet, although I know it's all black as its am20

I haven't even seen a photo of it yet, but as they already hold my deposit due to last weeks fiasco, they moved it to this car and if it isn't as perfect as they described then I can get it refunded. Got a very good deal on the car too so I am really pleased, but I don't want to get too excited just yet in case anything goes wrong before collection like last week.

I will keep you all up to date and once I have the car I will also post up all the details of the issues I have had dealing with a couple of dealerships.

So after a 4 week wait my alloy's have now officially arrived and they are sat right next to my desk...for the time being, need to get some tyres and want some orange if possible lug nuts, any recommendations on where to get them? or what make to go for? The silver ones they sent with my wheels look nasty.

Anyway 3 pictures in the meantime.

So earlier in the week I booked a test drive in a GT86 for today, which has meant I have spent the week excited about finally driving one of these after talking about them for the last 6 months.  Last night I got a call from Toyota to say someone had crashed the demo car so I would need to rebook for something later in the week.  As someone who doesn't give up that easily, I met up with Rich this morning and rang around a number of dealerships until we managed to find a GT86 ready for a test drive in Nuneaton.  Before I went out for a test drive I had a good look around the car and I was happy with what I saw.   Negatives first, no leg room and small boot opening which I dont care about.  The stock headunit looks pants and needs replacing.  Styling wise inside and out they have done a great job.  There is a lot of leather inside which is good and the build quality isn't a let down and I would say is at least on par with the R56 in terms of materials and build quality.    Now onto the test drive itself, I have seen a lot of reviews by car people/magazines saying its an amazing car, others have said it just doesn't have enough power.  I went in with none of this in mind as I wanted to make up my own mind based on what I experienced.   The guy from the dealership was happy for me to drive it how I wanted to, so off I went and straight away I can say it isnt slow, it may not be a fire breathing monster however for what it is and what Toyota set out to create, it has enough power.  It felt as fast as a Cooper S for me, these are 200bhp, although it didnt have that kick in the back you get from a turbo, it certainly didnt feel sluggish.  It also made all the right noises, it had drama, from the moment you press the push start button there was a burble of an exhaust then when you rev'd the engine the cockpit was filled with noise from the engine bay courtesy of a sound tube piping sound from the engine bay.  That boxer engine makes a great noise.  When it came to corners you could feel the back end slip easily without me pushing it in the wet today (in a controlled way).     This car has the drama I wished my Clubby fJCW had out the box.  When I got back into my clubby, it felt silent, just no drama, no noise, all the things the GT86 had.  One thing it took me most of the test drive to realise ,which is a little annoying, is that I drove it like my clubman.  I expected power in the lower rev range, however once I realised the power in this engine was up high in the rev range, it suddenly clicked and I found power I didnt realise was there.  I saw enough on that test drive to seal the fate of my Clubby.      So all my local Toyota dealerships have my details and are trying to source one for me.  Options wise, for me I am only interest in the alcantara seats, although if I can get one cheap with cloth seats, a set of bride reclining seats may be purchased  I am going used as I am going to modify this car heavily so there is no point in getting a new one for me.  Colour wise I decided today after seeing both colours in the flesh that it has to be white or orange, no other colours will do.     First major mods would be to remove the spoiler and fit a TRD duck tail type one, a set of wheels and coilovers.  Then future mods would include a turbo/supercharger kit and I am 70/30 on a rocket bunny kit which is a irreversible mod as you have to cut away the arches to get it to fit.

As my car is no longer a "daily" I've made an effort to use "shortest route" with the satnav instead of quickest to try out some quieter roads. I'm 30mins late everywhere I go but the roads are a lot more fun! Found this village on the way back which had a nice muddy hole to take some photos in:

I am looking forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.  I won't be staying for lunch (have another arrangement for the afternoon), but am planning on getting there for around 11-30 for an hour or so catch up :-).  I am trying to convince Nige to come along with me.

So its all booked, I've confirmed 17 people for food with a couple more who may pop over for a bit of chitchat rather than food. I hope you are all as excited as I am about tomorrow's meet! Should be interesting.

Well this was a last minute meet and I admit I had a nagging feeling the day before that I should get out and drive my car for pleasure (rather than work for a change). Also being my car's second birthday, I thought it fitting that I should go and do the EVO Triangle in North Wales just as I did on the first full day I had the car with only 50 miles on the clock!

This time, there was no worries about running in of course as I now have over 54,000 miles on the clock. I put up on Facebook at 10am on Sunday morning, when I thought, let's just do it and Jamie kindly offered to join me.

We met up in Mold and drove along the A494 to the A5 where we pick up the B5401 to take the route up to the 'Triangle'. For those not in the know this a route popularised by EVO magazine for testing cars.

This is my fourth or fifth time and I first drove it in my AE86 back in 2011. It's a good mix of roads with the A543 being the highlight in my opinion with great visibility at the top on a road that winds and rises and falls with some great cambers on some well sighted corners.

For the first 'lap'. I followed Jamie and he went at a good pace. The road was clear but had meltwater on it from the melting snow which covered the sides. In a few places there was still snow on the road! With this in mind, I didn't feel that this was the time to flat out, but nevertheless we hit a good pace with Jamie leading.

On the way back up towards Lake Brenig we stopped at the lake (as in that pic in the car park) for walkie for Indy a chat and the inevitable coffee in the cafe there. It really is a beautiful place and Indy really enjoyed herself in the snow.

    Stunning scenery too!

We really ought to have stopped on the road, but it was a little difficult to park with the laybys being full of snow.

Next up, my turn to lead and wow, did I enjoy this. The car just came together and I could feel every nuance of grip. Temperatures were low we saw 0C at one point, but the grip levels were suprisingly consistent and my winter tyres gave me confidence (I'm really starting to change my viewpoint in regard to these!). Obviously with snow on the sides of the roads going wide was not an option as it would have just dragged you off the road. Nevertheless I was seeing 100mph in places and just loving being able to really lean on the car and sit it down round the faster corners. It never ceases to amaze me, just how much speed you can carry.

Yesterday reminded me just why I love this car so much, there was just so much feedback coming through the wheel, the seat of my pants and it just gave a feeling of total confidence and before long my speeds were increasing and I was really getting into the groove.

This is a car you can just play with and when you get in the zone it is just magical. To me, that is what driving is all about and that to me is the essence of the thrill of driving. Even on the way back I had some seriously good fun (sorry Jamie about you getting stuck behind the traffic) along the A494, it was just epic and there I was just weighting the car up for one corner and transferring it over for the next, the stuff of heaven to me when you can just manipulate the car and get it to really flow from corner to corner.

I think we need to go back and do it again! Thanks, Jamie for coming along too!
