Just remember, if you're going to use your donkey for timing, tether it down. Don't be this guy:

So, let me get this straight. Lap timing is a Nono, but you ARE allowed to tether a donkey to your car?

I'm just going to have to buy a set aren't I so we can try it :-D
I personally have no doubt the Teins will be better value if the adjustability is needed, which I think it probably would be with most of the users on here.
Of course there's always the B14/B16 coilovers too...
If I were going down the coilovers route though I'd personally be sorely tempted by the Ohlins for sale elsewhere on the forum (OK, I AM sorely tempted...)

I don't mean to be rude, but all that graph does is show the difference between a Koni damper (which has not been mentioned) and an unspecified Flex damper (of which there are many to choose from) on a car that isn't a GT86.
I remind you, the discussion was initially comparing the benefits of a proven coilover kit with the theoretical performance of a well respected shock absorber upgrade by itself. That graph compares two dampers, neither of which are part of this discussion and neither of which are for this car.
I'm sure if there was a test similar to the one you showed, but comparing a Bilstein shock to a Tein coilover on a GT86, then this conversation would have taken a slightly different path, but because no such thing exists as far as I'm aware, all we can do is speculate and compare opinions.
I had a quick browse through some google search results comparing these two options, and most people seem to suggest the Tein coilovers over Bilstein shocks/spring combo, but as these results vary across BMW, MX5 and Honda owners clubs (among others), I didn't really feel it relevant enough to mention until now, but I guess when in Rome.

Oh absolutely, cheap coilovers are best avoided, but I wouldn't class Tein products as "cheap".
I certainly wouldn't put £200 eBay coilovers on the car, which was commonplace in the VAG scene.
It's all a matter of pros and cons. On the one hand, you get dampers which will do their job better than the coilovers, whereas coilovers give you more adjustability and upgraded springs which may be a better all round package. Given that suspension quality is determined by both the spring and the damper (and obviously countless other things) you may find that the better dampers are balanced out by worse springs.
I don't know, just spitballing really.

Can't imagine there'll be many places cheaper than that. See what everyone else says, but even if nobody else wants to go through with that, I'll probably stay there (less distance for me to drive after 10 hours of meetings on Saturday).

As said above, great meeting you all, nice to see so many people out braving the weather.
On that subject, I may suggest the next meet be held somewhere a little warmer, like the North Pole or something.

Perhaps your idea of classic differs slightly from what I mean. I don't mean they're destined to be fetching 6 figures, I'm talking more in terms of "classic" BMW M3's, Mercedes 190E Cosworth, the original AE86 etc.
None of those cars were bad when they were new, but they all spawned a following. The GT86 is the first cheap, rear drive sports car in a long time (discounting the MX5, which is a classic in it's own right), and being the "first" of something, means it will always have its place in history.
I have no expectations for them to take off in value or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if they become something of a collector's item some time in the future.

At a little over 15,000 sales up to the end of 2015 (GT86 figures only), which is fairly low for 4 years of sales, there's a good chance that these will be classic sometime in the future.
I for one will be keeping hold of mine for a long time, mostly because I love the car, but I look forward to seeing if it does get valuable down the line.

Should probably post a picture in here, if nothing else but to remind myself what the car looks like when it's (occasionally) clean.

I have first hand experience, had a cat back on my EP3 Type R. It was loud in a good way. Cotton wadding started coming out of the back box after a year so had it swapped under Warranty with no issues after that. Lots of people had them on the R forum

I spent 6 months learning the basics of Korean toward the back end of 2015, and have yet to run into a single scenario in which that's been a useful skill. Meanwhile, I've found maybe 20 situations in which learning Japanese would have been useful.
    Never lucky.

If you end up bringing your car along to the TD open day, do yourself a favour and hide the keys from me.
I'm from the valleys, I have no problem stealing something from right under the owners' nose.
