Toni, each to his own I agree. But there's nothing wrong with the auto box for road use, especially in sport mode.

And an auto box car - the only one on track in the UK - won the inaugural F2 class in the GT86 Cup last year.

Admittedly that's with a £2grand upgrade but that's way cheaper than a 6-speed sequential, which is the only way a manual will box outperform it.

Oh, and it's cheaper road fund tax...

I get the point of cameras nearby things like schools and built-up areas. They will encourage people to stick to the limit where there's the potential to hit a pedestrian and potentially kill them

As for cameras on the motorway (statistically the safest type of road in the UK in terms of number of accidents and fatalities) it's just nonsense. Doing 100mph is just as safe as doing 70mph. You are typically more alert if you're driving fast and if it wasn't for the cameras you wouldn't be distracted by your speedo every 2 seconds, taking your eyes off the cars in front and around you to check what speed you're doing

The unrestricted Autobahn's in Germany are one of the safest roads in the world. Why? Because even though people are doing 100mph+, they are alert and aware of what's happening (most of the time anyway) and are concentrating on the job of driving. Not worrying if they're going to get flashed or pulled by the police.

Camera's on motorways do not make sense, unless it's purely to monitor traffic

could always stick some plush toys or something fun in the smaller gaps to fill the void and use the hole to secure them so they don't go flying

Not sure what it's going to achieve. Still doesn't change the fact speed cameras, or "safety cameras" as they call them are the primary cause for RTA's

Think you might need an LSD!

In your position I would have gone with a MK3 MR2, put a cage in it, then you could put on a turbo, much cheaper, much faster and way better handling.

    Good luck with it though.

As Rob said, it is to stiffen the shell. The idea being that the seams between panels can move a little when they are only spot welded, so if you seam weld them they will be stiffer... Looking at the photos I'm not sure how noticeable this will be since the seams seem to be in reasonable positions to minimise this effect in the first place and the shell is already pretty stiff, but then, every little helps and Nige is doing a pretty stunning job so far!!

I think it's to stiffen up the bulkhead? Just an assumption though, as Nigel, I don't think you mentioned why you are doing it

Tareim - the standard torque converter is rated to approx. 260bhp and, like the standard clutch, is not up to a boosted output.

In order to take advantage of the dizzy heights that 300+bhp can achieve you need to consider an upgrade - the people who know a thing or two about this are SSP Performance in Houston, Texas.

It is not only the torque converter that needs upgrading - you need a modified valve body assembly to upgrade the transmission oil pressures required. And, if you're considering serious track usage - like wot I do - a transmisison oil cooler is worth considering.

SSP do three versions - street, street/track and drag - on a part-exchange basis. Torque converter is about $1200, valve body assembly is about $1400 and the oil cooler kit is $1200 6

I have fitted the street/track option, with oil cooler. Be warned - this is an aggressive upgrade and needs getting used to, it changes gear astonishingly quickly (0.2secs) and gives you a jolt up the a*se, the street version is less aggressive, so you're welcome to try my car before committing to it.

Fesport imported/fitted the whole lot for me - to overcome the problem of being without the car whilst the old stuff was stripped out and sent to the USA I bought a second hand box and used  that for p/x bits. You might be able to do a deal with Adrian on my second hand bits..?

you can layer it for more durability, 15ml would allow you to layer the windscreen 2-3 times i reckon.

    Tareim - 15ml is plenty.

Mark - I was talking about the G1 on the front. Only time I get water on the rear window is when the car is stopped and it rains, when driving the window is bone dry. Have been tempted to use G5 on the front for the lower speed needed for it to roll off and because it's a lot quicker to apply.

    My 86 has been found!!!
It was parked up in a residential cul-de-sac 7 miles from my house!!!
It was called in by a member of the public! Facebook ftw!!

I am not allowed to see it until forensics have finished with it.
I have just delivered the other key to the recovery company that is holding it.

The police tell me there are 'no visible signs of damage'.
I reserve judgement on that as their assessment of what constitutes damage may be different from mine.

The spare key is still out there so IF i accept it back I shall have to get the locks reprogrammed and a new key issued.

But I am experiencing a little relief!
