Nige's Wide Body Project

Recommended Posts

How goes things Nige, been a while?

I was wondering when someone was going to ask!!!

Things are moving along slowly as I fabricate the wider tunnel and additional tunnel for the exhaust. The turrets have now been made to raise the strut tops so they'll be going in next. Then I can make a start on the cage.

Well, this little box appeared in the mail mans arms this week.

47846b2b-0cbf-47db-8a26-51fa5f9a163e.jpg

Heres a little peak at whats inside..

IMG_3602.jpg

It's a Tilton pedal box with the cylinders mounted on the drivers side of the pedals, enabling the box to go more forward. The cylinders will need a false floor built over them which will raise my feet about 50mm but that shouldn't be any issue? Certainly better than having my knees up round my ears!!

They will be mounted onto a frame built into the floor which I have yet to finalise a design for.

Having these means I have been able to mod the bulkhead a little..

IMG_3530.jpg

Now it's welded up, as are all the unnecessary holes in the bulkhead. Safety first!!

IMG_3533.jpg

As I write this I'm cutting the floor and tunnel about to fit the exhaust away from the Samsonas 'box and give it a little more room..

Oh, almost forgot.. these arrived this week also. Turrets to lift the rear shocks up and increase their stroke when lowered.

Thanks for looking in. There will be more in the coming days..

Thanks Guys, she is a little star, and rules my life if I'm honest!!

Forgot to mention, the Dry sump system is on its way!! You know where your rear seat squab is.. well there's a massive hole there now in my car. Dry sump tank and custom fuel cell will be there now.

My shell mods have got out of hand..

Time Attack here we come.

Check out V sport Australia on instagram and facebook, or their site at vsport.au.com You'll see Timmy, which has inspired me to call my build Tommy!!

Timmy is bloody gorgeous Rob. He will do well this weekend at WTAC. Tommy is nearly identical, so should be exciting.

I am impressed, Nige . .

.. the Samsonas is as Adrian's, so no dramas there - are you doing your own gearbox mount, or buying in?

But ... dry sumping? . . this is unknown territory. A huge (and unjustified) risk, in my opinion - you have no control over any element of the build and nothing is adjustable. There is no data on GT86 UK track/road use that qualifies this is safe - if it fails you don't just blow the engine, you WILL dump 7 litres of oil . . and with your current install program you will be scalded by seriously hot engine oil, lose control and cause a problem.

I can see no clear idea from you on catch tank/oil-water separation in your installation and, having reviewed the weblinks you provided, I would have safety/practical issues on this. With respect to your efforts to date they have focussed on chassis issues - you are not an engine/trans/race development specialist and this, in my mind, is a mega -step too far . .

Don't wanna curb your development ideas. But I could be the poor sod following you at TSS / Time Attack next year when you dump a shedload of oil when a hose blows at 12Bar . . and costs someone their life.

Reflect, please . . this turns fun into fear.

I watched world time attack this morning.  Most of the cars were running dry sump.  Nobody looked like they had been deep fried, not even the V-Sport GT86 that was running the same sump Nigel and I have bought.

The stock sump and oil supply aren't sufficient for my needs nor those of Nigel so we had no choice but to buy a proven system.

I'm more worried about 12 bar of oil pressure than it leaking ;)

Mmmmmm, and people wonder why I don't update my thread very much any more??

Just ignore the Troll Nige, everyone else does.

He's just annoyed no one cares about the pointless thousands he's spent on his auto transmission and jealous that you're doing something that the community is actually interested in and that inspires and contributes to a lot of our own thoughts and ideas to do with our own builds (even if they'll never be to Tommy's level or standard!)

It would be a shame if one Troll put you (or anyone else) off posting on here.

Ok, I'll say my piece and probably get banned or disliked for it.

This section is called projects and builds right?? So, I consider my car to be a project and have put it here. I am spending way more than many would want to spend, and without being boastful, have more ability and experience than some here.

Why are there so many cars in this section which are not really builds in my opinion. I mean, led's, fancy number plates and a change of alloy wheels hardly constitutes a build does it?? What makes it worse is the comments like those above where the person commenting obviously has no clue what they are talking about. These people profess to have knowledge and the right to comment on my work but actually need to take their car to Abbey or Adrian for what I consider a simple upgrade.

The previous few pictures show around £16000 worth of the best you can buy in Motorsport, £16000 of my hard earned cash. I don't want to read crap like that posted above when I'm investing all my money and time into this obsession. A few questions asked would be better, perhaps these people could then gain some knowledge rather than talk utter crap all the time.

No, but they are still a project of some sort. Not everyone has an endless budget to throw into a car, but it doesn't make it any less worthwhile to them. And project ideas are always good to be shared, no matter how "big" or "small." Too much willy waving going on though, it's not a bloody competition on who can spend the most....

FWIW I like your build Nige. Always good to see what can be done if you have the time and money and not by Motorsport companies, which makes it more interesting.
