Ignited reacted to Lowe in Fixing the centre box lid
So earlier today on parking up I went to get my phone out of the centre box. As I opened the lid it came off in my hand. Luckily it seems to be a fairly simple fix, so I thought I'd share in case it happens to anyone else. There's two pins which act as the hinge, and in my case one had come off and fallen inside the lid itself.

Right hand side has the hinge pin in place. Left one is missing.

Turn the lid upside down. You'll see 6 screw caps - use a flat bladed screw driver or similar to pop these off. Under neath you'll find allen bolts holding the lid together.

Undo them all and hopefully you'll find the lost pin inside.

The pin itself is split, so it expands along its length and holds itself in place. Put it back in so that the expanded end is inside the lid.

Put the lid back in the car and then reassemble. Easy

Tuning developments do this service and did it on my car if you could get to them?
The price is on the website.

I loved our car the moment I saw it, and love it more after each modification.  Had it nearly six years and don't expect to sell it until I can't get in it anymore (being an OAP).  If you buy one of these just to keep it for a few years and move on to something else you will likely take a hit.  I will never get back the money for the modifications undertaken, and never expected to, but the joy of this expensive hobby comes at a cost that I am willing to pay.
The enjoyment I get from just going for a drive in this car is difficult to express in monetary terms.  😊

I have the TD NA package with UEL headers and their super resonated cat back (ie the quietest one!) and it sounds like a completely different car to the one I dropped off. It sounds like a much more powerful car and is great on country lanes and for cruising through town (if you like people to look at you) but it is compromised for motorway speeds if I am honest. I cant hear the stereo once the revs get up. People who have driven behind me have all said how loud it is.
I understand that the EL give more power but the UEL more mid range torque (plus the sound)?
Mine is an auto with the lower final drive which means I am at higher revs at high speed though.
If its your daily then I would really try to hear what the combo you want sounds like if at all possible.

I am very much enjoying my NA package, final drive change and super resonated exhaust!

I havent done anything to my 86 yet but that is what I used in my MR2 and am very happy with it.
From the googling I did, the advice seemed to be that you got most benefit from some sound deadening product and diminishing returns from doing the whole panel so I did a lot on the doors but much less on the floor. I went round tapping panels with my knuckle and if it sounded hollow then on went a bit of silent coat. It goes a long way this way. I also put some sound deadening foam (the black stuff) on the firewall as well.

This really helped the sound in the MR2 so well worth doing. When I get some time I will do the same to the 86.

    Very neatly done.
I agree on sanding back the oak as I think it would look better matching the rest of the surround in smooth gloss black.

    Thankfully we had reserved parking.....

    And a look around the two museums;

    In for the expensive 80000 mile "flux capacitor" service;

I think they have put the lights on the wrong end...

2nd august is going to take a long time to come around.
My advice on the insurance front would be to only do mods when you take out a new policy as you will get a much better deal shopping for the mods (you are about to do).
I have a new spoiler and lowering springs already in the cupboard waiting for renewal time!

Does the Ford dealership have their own spray booth? Probably not I would guess.
Some dealerships have mobile paint sprayers visit and spray the cars for them (often in the car park) so they are no doubt taking a nice mark up.
I would check out the mobile guys local to you for the best prices. A fair bit of my MR2 has been painted this way!

I am no expert but have used silent coat and like it. It was a lot cheaper than that link on amazon when I bought it about a year ago though. I have also used flashband too which is cheaper still but silent coat has a stronger top layer which I imagine helps and is slightly less messy to apply. I bought one sheet of dynamat but havent actually used it yet but doesnt jump out as obviously better than silent coat to look at but as I say, I am no expert.
Lots of videos on youtube about sound deadening but, as always, not always easy to know who to believe!
There seems to be a consensus though that you get most benefit from having a little sound deadening on each panel and only slight improvements as you apply more. I applied it to the floor and firewall of my MR2, just tapping the panels looking for noisy ones and putting a small bit of SC in the centre. It certainly made the car a lot quieter.
Unless you are trying to get the best sound possible, I wouldnt worry too much and just have a go.

I turned my attention to the paint. It was in pretty good nick, but there were a few defects and swirls. Also I had a few stone chips which needed filling in so I spoke to Richard at RRG and he sent me through a touch up stick. It was a brand new sealed pot with the right paint code, but something didn't quite look right to me...

Err, mine's not blue! He got another one in, and that was the same colour too! Luckily, I'd still got the tin of paint with the left overs from the body shop. This was spot on, so I've been using that ever since and the Toyota one is in a cupboard somewhere...
After sorting out the chips, I took it to the detailers. Autobrite Direct are on my doorstep and they've looked after all of my cars. I went on holiday and left the car with them. They did a single stage polish, and coated her in a prototype SI02 sealant, which is now freely available as 'Supersonic'. It's an incredible product, and gives superb gloss and protection for up to 12 months if looked after properly. The results were pleasing!

So err yeah - it's shiny. Also, the beading is off the scale!

    Cheers Guys!
I need to transfer my existing insurance across from the last car so will need to keep it standard until renewal time but interested in looking at replacing the factory rear spoiler with a TRD style one. May also spray the stock wheels gloss black at some stage as not so keen on the two tone look.
Probably new speakers and adding a reverse camera would be nice too.
