I'd say take more time to learn to heel and toe properly. I wrote this article in 2003:

A ligher flywheel will result in a more responsive engine as there is less inertia to overcome.

Whilst it will aid the engine revving, it will also decellerate the engine revs quicker too. It shouldn't have too much of an impact on idle really, though you may be more likely to stall it perhaps.

The gains are really a sharper throttle response. You may notice that the engine hits the red line quicker in 1st gear but in higher gears the effects are diminished of course. Throttle adjustments mid corner should be sharper which is useful.

I tell you what though, on the way there, on the way back and throughout most of the day, at no point did I really think to myself that I needed to go FI, I didn't feel that I needed more power or the car was underpowered, even with the long straights.  With the new exhaust and the ECU remap, the car feels so spirited and had enough pull down slip roads and out of roundabouts etc.  Even when on track, get the corners right and you can speed out of most corners there to over take whoever was too slow, and in the conditions that day, even with Keith in his turbo'd 86, I managed to stay in front of him for about 3/4 of a session.....though then he managed to get one of the corners spot on and he just blasted past me on the straight.  When on the straights, I didn't feel that the straights were overly long, it gave you enough time to get some high speeds in but also enough time to plan and prepare for the next turn.

Though I'd probably have felt differently if there were more cars on track and on a dryer day while up against more experienced drivers, and I've always said this, when you're on your own, you never feel like the car needs more power, but when you're head to head with someone and you're flat out but they're pulling away, that's usually when you want more power.  But in the wet with hardly any cars about, I didn't really wish for more power at all....with the only exception that day of when trying to over take people on the straights who didn't bother slowing down, at which point I would only just creep past them and only just in time to then brake for the next corner, but even if you did have more power, there will typically be a more powerful car on track than yours and you'll end up in the same dilemma again anyways.

Adrian and the instructor/organiser made a really good point that when your tackling a particular set of difficult corners, as you improve your driving line through the first corner, you end up exiting the first corner with more speed....at which point you'll end up messing up the next corner.....which did actually occur as I (and probably others there) improved throughout the day.  Going FI would mean building up more speed, reaching the next corner sooner and reducing the time to plan and prepare for the next turn.  But I suppose that's just another challenge to tackle and fully utilising the potential of my NA GT86 is my current challenge.

Have I told everyone how much I love the GT86?  Though I'm still gutted that I never took my Clio 200 on a trackday before I got rid of it

Lauren, to be honest I love the whites with red wheels and stripes, so if it were me I'd wait until i had the red wheels and then match that red to the red of the stripes, take a picture, and then get someone to do a photo shop showing red fenders, If I liked it I would get the body shop to match the fender red to the rest.

Lauren got a reaction from Keethos in Gig review; Suede and Teleman
When I'm not doing car stuff, my other passion is most definitely music. I confess to listening to 6Music pretty much 24/7, I think I'm addicted, but at heart I'm a bit of an 'indie chick' and the chance to see Suede was just too good an opportunity to miss.    I also thought it would be good to get some other topics on here.      Teleman were the supporting act:   I've heard some of their stuff on 6Music  over the summer. 'Steam Train Girl' probably being the track being their best known really.    So, I was interested in what they might be like. They started quite well, but were just not strong enough IMO. Steam Train Girl was the one everybody seemed to like. Teleman are sort of Indie-electronica type band.    Felt a bit underwhelmed by them tbh. So, no download for them.    Suede:   Well, Brett Anderson has some presence alright. Started off with some of the Bloodsports songs (their new-ish album and the first in nine years). That was good enough but of course everyone (well everyone over 40) wanted to hear some of the Bernard Butler stuff, ie the first two albums.    Well, they didn't dissapoint and I was soon pogo-ing when Animal Nitrate came on. They also played So Young, The Drowners (of course!) an absolutely epic version of Asphalt World complete with a soaring end just like the album version, but better. Also did Metal Mickey.    The weakest points were the slow ballad tracks, though opening with Still Life was brave to be fair and highlighted Brett's voice, which is impressive.    Overall, I rocked till I dropped and got a black cab all the way home with the windows open in an attempt to cool down. Half an hour late I was still buzzing.    Highly recommended. :+:   View from behind the mixing desk:

Aircon works even if you are heating the car. This is particularly useful in the rain when it's cold and you want to demist the car. This is why the AC turns on automatically if you hit the demist button. Airconditioning removes moisture from the air, which is why it's so good for demisting. You can run in auto mode with the air con off by simply turning the AC off via the auto button. It will still run in auto mode. You should also run your AC regularly as the refigerant contains oil which lubricates the seals in the system. It generally won't work though below 3C as a guide. In all honesty it does no harm to run your AC all the time. I tend not to run my AC when I have the window open as there's no point and when the weather is mild and dry. But when it's really wet, especially if you got wet getting into the car, then the AC is useful for demisting all the windows. Hope this helps!

Mission statements are not worth the paper they are written IME and opinion. They were a silly craze that started years ago which normally results in meaningless drivel. Just my opinion of course. A not for profit club surely says it all doesn't it? There are no loose thoughts, I have already run a not for profit club for the last nine years. It's a matter of principle and ethos that I don't agree that a car club should be run by someone with no interest in the car and for the only reason of making money. Big difference in approach I think. I'm not convinced it needs a 'mission statement' just to say that.

Okay, I wasn't happy with the stock setup and the JBL wasn't quite what I wanted either. So, I decided to take the plunge and go for a professional install. I chose a local guy in Macclesfield who has had a shop doing this for over 35 years. As it turns out he knows his stuff. He used to go those mad ICE competitions in the states where you have to play a tone for five seconds and he met the guy who hand makes Focal speakers in France. In all honesty, I really think I treated myself with this, but life is short and it was another thing I had to tick off on my list.Apart from the head unit which chose myself, everything else was specified by the installer. I just gave him a budget and an idea of the kind of music I like. I love lots of bass so a prerequisite was that it had to deliver in that department.I went for an Alpine W925R, which is the one with DAB.Focal KR2 165sHertz 950 5/3 channel ampJL 12" sub (sorry can't remember which one).Audison Bit10 DSPThen Focal KR2 165s which are a two way coaxial which are kevlar:Corresponding tweeters:Front speakers and crossover:Car in the workshop:Audison Bit10 Digital Sound Processor. Best one I have is sans the door handle trim, but you get the idea:The quality of the sound is astonishing. Last weekend I had a fellow owner come over and have a listen to his classical music on it. It was very impressive even though it's not really optimised for that. Enough to persuade him of a way forward. The clarity of the sound is on another level to what I've ever had before. The rear view mirror vibrates in time with the music.
