How restrictive are the aids, when I went Nurburging I didn't dare take them off? I consider them my saviours 🙈

Good write up. Turning everything off is what you need to do though in order to learn how to control the car in a slide and work on recovery when you over-cook it. The car has a chassis that doesn't really bite, so it's a lot easier than some in that respect.

On Saturday I did the "cornering Masterclass" with CAT driver training at Milbrooke. It was an fantastic day and I enjoy both the driving and chatting with @Keethos @spikyone @CATDT (Jo and Paul).
    Some Details of the day.
We started on the mile straight were Paul and I worked on my left foot braking technique. What I didn't know was the affect of using the left foot and the throttle at the same time, as the brakes primarily affect the front but the throttle the back end, they can be used together to induce some extra turn in.
Next we went the high speed ring. We focused on double lane changes, first switching lanes smoothly while holding the throttle, then in sport mode, then all aids switched off. This is the point I realised that the aids are really holding me back at the track I would say seconds per lap. I found that even in sport mode it was using the rear brakes and scubbing speed during high speed transitions even though the back end was only slipping a little. This was particularly evident at blyton at the ump and wiggle where the quick left then right would cause the VSC to kick in if I went too fast. Next paul asked me to power out of the corner, but warned of oversteer with all aids of. 3rd gear 4k revs, turn in, ease and squeese out, lovely! little wiggle at the back and some great feedback through the wheel. I was buzzing so asked Paul if I could try it in 2nd where the car will be close to peak torque. Whoops too much throttle and before I knew it I was going sideways down the ring.
Then we went to the steering pad. Great fun trying to drift and control oversteer. Its a lot hard than it looks! I did get the most drifty crown at the end of the day
After lunch we were at the handling circuit. We got some laps in practicing consistency with input from Paul then came the 3 times laps where they were looking for consistency. The aim was within 2 seconds of one another. I managed 0.25 seconds between the first two and then 0.8s between the next one as I made a slight mistake. It was enough to win the bottle of champers though so I was quite happy about that!
Finally we were on the alpine circuit were it could all get strung together. I really liked this as it was more about road craft and how to read the road not knowing the circuit very well, its a bit like driving a nice back road you dont know that well.
Fantastic day and looking forward to perhaps some one on one next year to get to grips with over grip limit as I feel that's my weak point which prevents me from wanting to turn all the aids off.

I've had Stoptech pads on the for the last year. I compete in the sprint series and do the odd track day. They've actually been pretty good. Of course it depends how you drive on track. If you just slam on the brakes on the approach to every corner, then not much will cope. But if you have a degree of progression to your braking and are sympathetic, I find them absolutely fine on track. I'll tend not to do more than five laps or so at a time, just for the sake of not murdering the car and oil temp and all that, but they work well enough and there is no squeal at all. Given their price, it's a win-win situation.

Stock disc and good pads go a long way, and are okay if you do short runs like a few laps only at a time. But if you want to do 20min or more sessions and you are fairly quick, the pads won't last long. I wasted a rather expensive set of ds2500 and a set of project mu hc800+ over the course of 5 trackdays. That's 300 odd £ in pads. The main problem being the taper in the worn pads but they were unusable.
If you only want to do 10min sessions like a lot of people do, a good fast road pad works well. I like cosworth Street master. If you want to do a bit more then project mu hc800+ but you are getting into race pad territory so expect them to glaze easily and squeal a lot "around town".

If you want to use them a lot on the road  and track I'd suggest looking at the Michelin Cup 2's as they have newer tyre tech than the ado8rs which are getting on a bit. If it's just for track use and only a tiny bit of road (and not in the wet) the Nankang AR1's are not far off slicks and generate ludicrous grip.

Yes and no. Fronts are wrx 295x24mm disc. Rears are legacy 290x18mm with 190mm parking brake.
In the long run bbk will save you in costs. I was going through a set of pads in 2-3 trackdays.
    Few popular options are:
    1) sti brembos. Check out DanJs thread for info on that.
    2) stoptech or ap gt86 kits
    3) mine which are subaru wrx bbk for the front. You need to swap the bleeders as they are leading not trailing calipers. I bought and old set and got them refurbished with swapped bleeders. Some information on my thread about that (I think).

I'm over the moon with them, the damping is set to hard as I went to the ring. On public roads with the current damping you can feel how crap uk roads are, not the most forgiving but with the dampers set to soft this may not be the case. Performance wise the car is very balanced, no body roll, what seems like endless grip as if the car was on rails. I need to increase height but you can really slam the car with these coilovers, not my cup of tea as I want function and performance. As it stands I certainly say these are a good alternative to the Teins. I've driven @rob275 and his setup is brilliant tbf. The car will become a daily from December for a while but I don't drive often during the week.

So next on my list was to get some coilovers, after being told the Teins weren't available for when I needed, I researched the American forums and found ST Suspension. ST XTA coilover is what I went for, manufactured directly at KW, they have adjustable damping with top mounts, also a nice drop in height was a must!

The coilovers and alignment were carried out at Fensport, a great service and highly recommended. I asked for a fast road/ track setup and the car feels unbelievable, after letting a number of people with performance cars drive my car, they have commented on how great my 86 is and how much enjoyement you can have in it.

The 86 at the ring... it was quite daunting going on to the track, once the barriers had gone up there was no going back! The respect you have to have for the track is unreal, it was highly challenging but after a few laps then having Bennett coach me it became very rewarding. The car performed faultlessly, I completed 9 laps in total over the long weekend, but by the end to say I was hooked is an understatement! I really hope to complete some driver training and UK trackdays before getting back out there next year, 3/4 trips next year is the aim.
Next on the list for me is upgraded brake pads and lines, the oem discs and pads worked well but if I want to push on some better pads should help me out. I also need to have the car raised slightly as my front arch liners took a beating, I believe it was the bottom of Foxhole and the Carousel which took these out! Seeing so many stripped out cars with cages and upgraded seats really got me thinking how far to go with the car, next year the stripping process may begin.

Hey, I'm Ryan from Surrey, thought i'd share a little of my car background first.
First sort of performance car was a 350z.

One of my favoruite shots of the 1st zed loved how clean it was! The Japspeed K1 exhaust could be heard from anywhere with the decats!
I regret not driving this car as much I did, I bought it when I was 20 and it mostly sat outside the house was cleaned and serviced never driven
Then a good deal came up on another zed and I ended up with...

Nismo V2 Front Bumper with Carbon Splitter

    , 07 Bulge Bonnet

    ,19" LMGT4's in Anthracite Grey

    ,Vortech v2 Supercharger Full Kit(Not Tuner)Polished

    , Split Second Piggyback ECU

    ,Polished Intercooler Pipes

, Kinetix V2 Plenum , GT Spec Strut Brace

    , Uprated Exedy Clutch

    , Lightened Flywheel

, Arc Oil Pan (Rare- Possibly 1 in the UK?)

    , Z Speed Undertray

    , Custom Exhaust

, Brembo GT Big Brake Kit Ferrodo PadsDefi Gauge Control Box

    , Defi Fuel Pressure Gauge

    , Defi Boost Gauge

    , AEM AFR Gauge

, Alpine Sat Nav in Cubby

Was a monster but again never had it that long as it wasn't driven!

Then the 330D which I really enjoyed, ate up the miles and was a pleasure to own. May be able to see Rob275s car behind, detailed by him! Once the BMW went I then had to save for a property so I have a Juke on lease but then the time came again to get another car...
After testing many cars in my hunt for a new project, I narrowed it down to the E92 M3, GT86, 370z, M135 and the S3. Out of all of them I found the GT86 to be the most involving and loved the driving position and how fun the car was to throw about, the only downside being underpowered. Fortunately, what I felt was the perfect base car became available thanks to Jonathan Wheat.

Standard apart from the official TRD canards.

Car makes roughly 320bhp/288 at hubs

The supercharger/oilcooler/most exhaust parts have only been on the car for around 2k miles

Car Mileage is just under 7000miles since new

The car is going to be used as a weekend toy and for track use with the intention of entering the Toyota Sprint Series.

    Pickup day!

Took a trip home to realise the standard wheels could not put the power down and new wheels and tyres were ordered.

Back of the daily Juke - a lot more fun than you could ever expect!

Sitting like a monster truck at the moment, but I can finally get the power down, loving it!
