benmmellor reacted to Deacon in Deacons '86
The alcantara I had on my dash panels and binnacle cover had started to fade (on the binnacle cover mainly). It's the second time I've had it done so I decided I'd try something different.
I saw a member on the FB group have some of their panels flocked by a company called For Flocks Sake so decided I'd give them a try too.
Panels arrived yesterday and I fitted them today. The red is beautiful - much deeper than it seems to come out in photos.
Fingers crossed the flocking resists sun fading a little better.

We should all get off the OP's back. I find my entire driving experience is ruined when I have to manually reach for the mirror dimmer. For all that I love the way the car handles, the feedback it gives, the perfect control weights, Toyota blew the whole thing by forcing me to take my left hand off the wheel to dim the rear view mirror. Now I can never drive my car at night, or when the sun is low. 😭
It reminds me of the time I had to kick Scarlett Johansson out of bed for farting. I just couldn't look at her the same after that and we haven't spoken since.
(Some of these things may not be entirely true)

benmmellor got a reaction from nerdstrike in Couple of funny noises going on.... rear shelf 'buzz' and chirping brakes when 'free wheeling'?
well thats the annoying squeaks and buzzing gone.
Buzzing was the light itself - mainly the underside element beneath the lens. There's 2 legs that should clip into notches inside and these were not hooked in - also added some silentcoat strips to reduce any other buzz.
Brakes now seem to be a lot better - been at TD for a service, current pads were down to about 3000 miles left so swapped them to new pads, also they thought one of the rear shields was just catching the disk to that had a little percussive adjustment. drive back was sqeal/squeak and chirp free!

benmmellor reacted to Captain Duff in Workmanship at Milton Keynes / Bedford dealer
RRG Macclesfield are based in Macclesfield funnily enough Bit of a trek form Peterborough for the OP, but it is a good place to get to know for any 86/BRZ owner as Rich and Gary really care about our cars, have no issue with mods (and will supply and fit many of them) and in my (and plenty of others) experience are the best main dealer you'll find and I'm always happy to travel down to them from where I live.

Well I've booked in for the work at TD at the end of the month.. will see what the pre-remap dyno run says in comparison to the baseline taken pre-BPB's being put in a couple of months ago...
Then it's a case of seeing what the re-mapping makes of the standard TD manifold, overpipe with the BPB''s hence them keeping it a bit longer than a normal remap session.

I've got a set fitted and I have noticed a difference in the engine being a bit quicker on acceleration, seems to pick up quicker.
I know I've sacrified the very top end of my rev range (at this time) but to be honest how often do you redline when on normal roads.
I've got a baseline dyno done at TD, so one of my things to do this month is get booked in for the manifold and overpipe fitting and remap - then I'll have the dyno's to compare the non BPB, with just BPB and then BPB + TD NA kit.

benmmellor reacted to MartinT in Budget - more power
Losing the torque dip is exactly what you need, forget absolute power which you hardly ever use in normal driving. I can assure you that a UEL manifold and remap will bring you exactly the midrange flexibility that you need for everyday driving. And, as expressed elsewhere, lose them on the curves!

Lauren - I'm planning to try and get down there this weekend as my girls are off to see 'Strictly' in Manchester. Hopefully they weather will be decent - blue skies and sunny here at the moment (I'm about 10 miles from BB)
Just need to clean the '86 at some point this weekend!

benmmellor got a reaction from TommyC in Another font speakers swap thread
Focal IS165Toy kit is a piece of piss to install as it's plug and play fitment - just remore the stock speakers and swap them over. We did Njay's on his drive in Bracknell - took us about 30 minutes without taking the door cards off completely.. Luckily the GT86 uses nylon threads in the door panel to the bolts unscrew easily.
The wife's Auris on the other hand was an absolute bastard to do as the speaker mounts are riveted to the door panel so had to drill them out, and re-rivet the new speakers on.

benmmellor reacted to Stutopia in Engine Bay Bolt List
After messing about taking bolts out, measuring, putting them back, I have a list of sizes to dress up the engine bay. In case anyone else is looking for the info:
Bolt A - Wings & Bumper
23x M6 countersunk bolts, 15mm length
23x M6 countersunk washers, 19mm o/d
Bolt B - Slam Panel
2x M8 countersunk bolts, 20mm length
2x M8 countersunk washers, 25mm o/d
Bolt C - Airbox and Noise Maker
2x M6 countersunk bolts, 35mm length
2x M6 countersunk washers, 19mm o/d
Bolt D - Bonnet & ABS Unit
6x M8 flanged hex, 20mm
4x M8 flat washers
That will give you most of the OEM bolts around edges of the engine bay, plus the bonnet. I've not changed the ones on the pulley covers, or throttle body as I'm replacing these separately with something aftermarket, so they're not included in this list. Neither are the ones for the strut braces or the suspension, they're in good nick on my BRZ. I may do some more in future, I'll add any further specs as I find out.
For reference to off the shelf kits, you can put this lot together for about £85 from pro-bolt. Though this list is not quite as long as some aftermarket kits.
Some Of The Bolt Locations
This is all for info only, don't replace strong steel fittings with soft ally or cheapo items, stay safe

benmmellor reacted to Stutopia in Stubaru BRZ
Freshened up the bay with a splash of colour and got rid of the painted OEM bolts.
Though I realise they might be a bit fruity for some

benmmellor reacted to Lauren in Hello from Bristol Hi
I think you'll end up a little under what those of us made with the TD setup, but still some good increases. I think the primary cat will cost you a bit in terms of power. If you want to run a cat, why not run the stock 2nd cat or a high flow cat? The Crawford Power blocks will beef up the mid range but move your peak power down the rev range a bit. But with a decent manifold the mid range will be sorted anyway, so you have to wonder at the need for the extensions to your inlet manifold with the Crawford kit.
