KobayashiMaru 28 Report post Posted March 9, 2019 Brother's car is due this. What's involved and how much is it roughly? They quoted him over £600 until he asked how so much and they dropped it to £540...🙄 guessing it's so much because of the plug change. My concerns are because it's got the TD N/A kit on plus a few other bits they'll mess something up or even refuse to touch it. There's a few bits he won't need like air filter, brake fluid, etc because they were changed when we upgraded but I don't know what's fully involved in a 6 year service. The car itself is perfect and he's barely done 35k in it. My confidence with any dealer where I am is low at the moment. My last experience cost me £1200 because some YTS pushed too much pressure through the system doing a brake fluid change, borking my slave cylinder, causing me to change the clutch. Someone in my office has a new car with a premium brand, goes in for routine warranty work, have it for 4 days, 3 of which it never moved and they give it back with more issues and they washed it, even though he told them not to after he'd just paid someone to detail it. sam534 62 Report post Posted March 9, 2019 It will be engine oil, dif oil, brakes fluid and plugs. And the plugs require them to raise the engine which turns the £320 quid full service into a £600 quid one. TD NA kit is fine, after all it's just aftermarket manifold, just mention that it has an aftermarket map. Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
GT86-Ian 351 Report post Posted March 9, 2019 If the cars only done 35k miles forget the plugs or get most of the work done for free with the valve spring recall. 1 Lauren reacted to this

Ignited 24 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Tuning developments do this service and did it on my car if you could get to them? The price is on the website. 1 KobayashiMaru reacted to this
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 The spark plugs are due to be changed at 60K miles not six years, so your service is just the same as a full service. If the dealer is telling you that they need to change the plugs as it's six years old, they are wrong. The TD NA kit should not cause any problems with getting the service done. Loads of us have it after all and I've yet to hear a Toyota dealer refusing to do the work because of it.

I'd always change plugs on mileage but he's just has the quote so only here asking what's involved. The only reason I asked about the TD kit was because if they are moving the engine I was just worried they'd break something and then say it's not their problem as it's not their parts. Going by this I'll just tell him to get the oil dropped, diff oil, gearbox oil and maybe coolant but that's it. They don't need to do anything else. If I had the choice I wouldn't have anything to do with them. Would go back up to TD if it was me but he thinks it's a long way for it. May have to convince him otherwise or I'll offer to take it up myself.

I had my plugs changed for the second time and I have the TD NA kit, it was a total non-issue. They only have to lift the engine a very small amount. Gearbox oil doesn't need changing either so lose that too.
Deacon 1357 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Toyota do a reduced price servicing package for cars over 5 years old too. Makes the big (gold) service £200 but doesn't include plugs. Like others have said though at that mileage it doesn't really need them and you'd be better waiting until the recall and just getting them done then. https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/service-mot-maintenance/servicing?gclsrc=aw.ds&ds_rl=1253313&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-onjBRDSARIsAEZXcKY59EaacjXrBKdzt6GyJHU7NntdlqSPXNyX5uzKnFYhqZKRwb4l1jIaAqgdEALw_wcB#

BRZ-123 174 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Jeff is right. I have compared details via Toyota website. The only extra on our cars compared to a gold service is diff oil.120 and 200 for silver and gold vs 205 and 365 for minor and major for cars less than 5 yrs old.Diff oil can be added as an extra for 80£ which makes it 280.Spark plug service aka 60K is a totally different ballgame though. No escape there. Sent from my FIG-LX1 using Tapatalk
