DanJ 374 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 Already booked in for a change to 4.67 at the end of the month. Those of you considering changing FD ratio should find this spreadsheet I made useful: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87478421/GT86_Ratios_and_Tractive_Effort.xlsx I was originally concerned about the revs being too high at motorway speeds with a 4.67, but at 70mph its only ~400rpm more in 6th. 1 Mike@TD.co.uk reacted to this
Tareim 343 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 will have to have a chat with you on the open day @Mike@TD.co.uk about these after having a ride with @MikeB to see what the 4.67 is like and if it'd be a good change for me 2 MikeB and Mike@TD.co.uk reacted to this
Rich 378 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 There's also the MFactory calculator for final drive changes: http://calc.teammfactory.com/index.php?kmh=0&tirewidth=215&tireprofile=45&wheelsize=17&tirediameter1=24.62&maxrpm1=7400&finaldrive1=4.1&gearratio1=3.626&gearratio2=2.188&gearratio3=1.541&gearratio4=1.213&gearratio5=1.000&gearratio6=0.767+&trannytype=&trannytype=&tirewidth2=215&tireprofile2=45&wheelsize2=17&tirediameter2=24.62&maxrpm2=7400&finaldrive2=4.67&gearratioa=3.626&gearratiob=2.188&gearratioc=1.541&gearratiod=1.213&gearratioe=1.00&gearratiof=0.767&trannytype=&tranny=Calculate+Transmission+1+%26+2&trannytype= That link has GT86 ratios in. 1 Tareim reacted to this
Ade 517 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 With the 4:67 the cars still got a top speed of ~150mph which is probably faster than you'll reach at most circuits. I'd have liked this at Bedford as I was hit 136mph rev limit in 5th right before the braking zone.
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 21 minutes ago, Rich said: I'd have thought that was a little short on a SC car? I concur (for a manual). Shame about no 4.56, I reckon 4.67 would be a little too lairy and drink fuel for daily driving on an SC. I think 4.44 would still be a good upgrade, especially if more boost is on the horizon. MikeB 79 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 On auto has put revs up by about 400/ 500rpm and fuel consumption dropped by 3mpg only on long run. Worth noting though you do get small whine noise being helical gear but not as loud as straight cut but it's not to intrusive.
Varelco 211 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 It shouldn't whine, should be totally silent. May not of been shimmed correctly. What's the stock FD?

KevinA 695 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 I have 4.67 manual and NA, certainly livens the car up but you can still end up in the wrong gear on track just like OEM. Will be on the open day if anyone wants a ride. 2 Rich and Tareim reacted to this
MikeB 79 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 Sam it's not that bad and Fensport fitted it and I did check with them about whine. Have a chat and drive out when I see you at TD day and see what you think. 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this
Varelco 211 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 Is this mod worthwhile on a daily drive? I do quite a bit of commuting with mine but I've only ever heard good things about fitting a shorter FD. For you guys who have these fitted what's the typical all in cost?
MikeB 79 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 Best speak to Mike at TD for labour cost plus oil and pinion seal. 1 Varelco reacted to this
Foulsmell 120 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 It shouldn't whine, should be totally silent. May not of been shimmed correctly. What's the stock FD? They all do. It's the way they are cut.

For you guys who have these fitted what's the typical all in cost? I've got 4.67 on my daily. It's fine if not better. More usable torque in higher gears for easier overtaking with no shift down. It's a great mod. 4.44 might not be as noticeable vs cost. 2 Tareim and Varelco reacted to this
Foulsmell 120 Report post Posted March 15, 2016 I did a test run before exhaust and FD fit (otherwise stock) 2nd @30mph then through the gears to 90mph. Totally stock 13sec FD and Milltek exhaust 11sec No ecu tune. 1 Varelco reacted to this
