Just took out a Prestige policy

Recommended Posts

I've been with Sky for years and in lots of ways I'd have liked to stay with them. But, an at fault accident last year meant a 50% rise in my premium and so I had to look elsewhere.

I decided to give Prestige a go as they offer a club deal so I gave them a ring. It took a while to do the quote as I have quite a number of requirements, but it all went smoothly and I got a quote which in the end saved me £129 over the best that Sky could offer.

I feel a bit guilty for leaving Sky as I was doing some blog stuff for them, but I can't justify the extra cost, so I hope my time with Prestige will be a good one. :)

Glad that taking on board the Prestige guys has benefited you. Let us know how you get on....I should have shopped around a bit more last time but I only got one or two quote before just renewing with Sky.

What requirements did you have to have if you don't mind me asking?

Good to know, I saw Jordan has signed up with them as well, I'll be looking at getting a quote in March time as want to get off the multicar policy and be with someone more mod friendly...

Are your mods covered like for like Lauren?

I needed, 30K mileage a year, two thirds of that is business mileage. So business cover as well.

I also wanted third party cover on any car.

I didn't bother asking about like for like cover. Is there any point really?

Everyone I spoke to offers it pretty much standard.... I always ask about GV policies, of which only one company I spoke to offer. I didn't give Prestige a go this year however, after we spoke last year I thought I'd wait until the Mrs is over 25. Will see what they offer then.

Lauren, does not 'like for like' cover become more beneficial (and inviting!) as the value of the mods increase?

Okay, so it's no big issue for a few £100's worth of wheels etc. but some people on here are planning to spend serious money on engine / geabox / suspension mods. It's not difficult to add £10grand to the base value...

With my mods having a combined total of well over £10k, I thought it best to opt for a like-for-like policy

I chatted with Tim towards the end of last year regarding this and it's what prompted me to get in touch with Prestige. Pretty sure mods are covered LFL as standard though?

Prestige wouldn't cover me because of my front crash beam mods, but I wonder if they would be interested in covering a track day car, on the road, with seam welded shell, cage, buckets and airbags removed?

Very much doubt they'll insure a track day car, you'll need specialist insurance for that

Like for like is definitely worth it. I used to work for a brokers. Most insurers will only replace with standard spec parts. So for instance if you had a front impact and needed 2 new front shocks even if you had coilovers fitted all around they'd only want to replace them with standard spec shocks and then it would be down to you to replace the coilovers. With like for like they (should) replace modified parts with the same parts (subject to availability obviously).

I'll be taking Prestige up on there insurance quote in the morning whilst I'm waiting for my flight, ended up being about £500 less than my initial renewal quote with Admiral :o

Tony who I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with, would've sorted it this evening but had to let the mother and brother know I'd definitely be coming off the multicar.
