Lee reacted to Mark@Abbey M/S in FS: HKS V2 Supercharger Kit
We can transfer the tune across to the buyer Free of charge as long at they have a ECUTEK license already; (tune will be made safer to be loaded into the car before any E-tuning or dyno work)
You need a small piece of wiring to allow the Abbey IAT kit to be swapped over.
This kit has a 43mm restrictor that will give between 230/250 hub bhp depending on the other parts used on the build.
We can supply the stock size HKS restrictor if needed.

Nice speaking to you Lee, you've forced me into ordering a propshaft for our car now too
Cheers

Lee reacted to smudge in Lee's HKS v2 Supercharged 86
Reason I say propshaft is I remember Keith complaining of vibrations along the car when he fitted the lighter prop on the automatic, which doesn't work for some reason, but manual is fine?
With the prop being so long and going the majority of the length of the car, this is what I think would cause the vibrations to "move towards the rear" at higher speed

It was amazing, misses hated it though. When we got back into town her head was below the window line
I tend to go off at least once on a track day, the extend at croft was over a kerb surprisingly.
60ish, the front pipe bracket was bent slightly - its now acceptable since installing the stock section. The rest of the exhaust is fine, tiny ding on the diff housing.
Got a vibration above 60 now though, hopefully the wheels just need balanced up again - see to that tomorrow.
Cobra front pipe now on order, has a 200 cel cat instead of the 400 cel that was in the HKS front pipe. Marks words were 'probably be able to add a bit more timing with it now'
Also the cobra doesnt have a small silencer in the front pipe like the hks did, so should be a wee bit louder too which is ok.

Needed a wheel barrow to move it out the way afterwords

Remove the cover and hammer out the ding will be the extent of it. The tank itself isn't leaking.

when i last fitted them they were decent in the dry but pish in the wet.

Lee got a reaction from Ade in Lee's HKS v2 Supercharged 86
Ok - dont have 'fun' on track and explore the limits bearing in mind knockhill / cadwell dont really have the space to learn how the car behaves like that.
Or - hold on and spin, the slip angle was too much too fast to keep hands on wheel.
Or - if you want to drive like that book a drift day. Not interested

Lee got a reaction from DanJ in Bias pedal box installation.
When we fitted an AP pedal box to our race car we lost ABS and servo assistance - trust me when I say that losing both of these was not an issue for me personally. Brake was very easy to modulate on the pedal.
One issue to be mindful of is using the correct means of linking your accelerator pedal to the throttle body. First off we tried a linkage to the standard mini pedal - this didnt work out for us but might do for you - im not sure.
We had a linear potentiometer extra so made up a linkage for that:
We werent too happy as there wasnt a 'failsafe' with this set up. If you were to brake something at the wrong time the throttle could potentially be stuck at 100% open.
In the end we settled on a celesco string pot:
And this is it mounted:
If the string was to snap the throttle would 'fail' in the zero position.

Lee got a reaction from Mike@TD.co.uk in GT86 Turbo Kit & BRZ Turbo Kit from Tuning Developments
Looks a really nice kit :thumbup1:
Nice to see some 'home brewed' kits coming out in the UK
Is it still a maf tune? if so wheres the maf sensor? or has it been converted to speed density?

Lee got a reaction from Keethos in HKS V2 Supercharged GT86
2012 62 Toyota GT86
< 30,000 miles (working offshore just now so will confirm exact mileage when I'm home)

Abbey Motorsports IAT kit
K&N Panel filter
HKS Decat Manifold
Cobra Overpipe
HKS Catted front pipe
HKS legamax sports premium cat back
Mishimito 19 Row oil cooler with thermostatic sandwich plate
TRD Oil Filter
Millers CFS 5W-40 Oil replaced < 2000 miles ago
KW Clubsport Coilovers
Whiteline Roll centre adjusters
Whiteline anti bump steer kit
Whiteline Camber bolts
Whilteline Caster kit
SPL Titanium Rear control arms
Front AP Racing big brake kit with 2 piece J hook discs
Ferodo DS2500 pads all round
Rota Titan 17x9" ET42 wheels
Nankang NS2R tyres in 235/40R17
Stock wheels with winter tyres included
Gearbox, brake and diff oils replaced last summer.
Car has been used on track and has always performed flawlessly. Exhaust system is very quiet and not at all intrusive pootling around or at motorway speeds.
Bad points:
Some gravel rash / light kerbing on the rota wheels
Small ding in passenger door
Stress crack on windscreen - windscreen that replaced a stone chipped screen developed a stress crack after fitting, autoglass haven’t yet been able to fix this due to lack of stock (it’s a warranty case with them - will be replaced soon)
Price: £21,500
The car obviously owes me a lot more than this, but I feel above is a fair price. I'm in no rush to sell and will happily keep the car and further develop it if it doesnt go. The only reason I am considering selling is due to building a house and it will help free up some cash.
Interested buyers can be collected from Aberdeen / Inverness airports or Keith train station.

Lee reacted to DanJ in Reduction gears
The spreadsheet wasn't as user friendly as I remembered so its been revisited this evening. It's got numbers for a standard MT car in it so I've been able to sanity check the results against my own car.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87478421/GT86_Ratios_and_Tractive_Effort.xlsx
All user inputs are yellow cells, greens are useful output, some of the yellow options are drop downs to quickly select between the different choices. You'll have to put your own engine torque vs speed numbers in, I used the Nm vs rpm from Cosworth's std vs stage 1.x to stage 2 graphs.
There's no accounting for speed or torque dependent transmission losses so its only useful as a comparative tool, but is interesting none the less.
A standard engine and gearbox but with a shorter final drive must be horrible in the lower gears, the fluctuation in tractive effort as you transistion through the dreaded torque dip is very large!

Lee reacted to smudge in Smudge's supercharged V8 build
Been an exciting (but expensive!) few days ordering parts in preparation for the build
Mark at Abbey has been a star in answering all my questions and guiding me through this with his extensive knowledge. The car will is booked to go in for the work on 17th August where we will be installing:
- HKS 2.1l stroker kit (pistons, rods and crank)
- HKS cams
- HKS 1.0mm head gasket
- HKS heat grade 9 spark plugs
- Upgraded Walbro fuel pump
- Upgraded oil pump
- Asnu 500cc injectors
- Setrab 16 row oil cooler
- Xtreme HD clutch
- Xtreme lightweight flywheel
- ARP engine and head bolts
- Moroso sump baffle plate
And most importantly...
- Sprintex 335 supercharger!
The 210 kit was great and will shortly find a new home with a new forum member. It's done me so very well for almost a year but I want bigger and louder!
I appreciate the 335 isn't to everyone's liking due to more efficient systems such as the HKS v2 and some new developments like the Harrop and Cosworth, but I like to be different and that whine is just stupidly addictive
Mark and the Abbey team will need the car for a number of weeks which means she may not be ready for JAE
Watch this space people!
