I think that's wise. Those are pretty high quality coilovers so should sell no problems, netting you more money and appealing to a larger target audience looking for standard cars.

Polishingpedlar reacted to Kodename47 in Recall Notice: Power Steering Defect
Toyota has announced a safety recall for certain GT86 models in the UK to correct a potential issue affecting the wiring harness and the electronic control unit in the electric power steering system.
This action is part of a global recall that covers right-hand drive GT86 models manufactured between April 2012 and March 2015.
The number of UK-registered vehicles affected is 4,556. They are among a total of about 4,600 in Europe and 23,400 worldwide.
There are no reports of any accidents, injuries or fatalities linked to this issue.
    The issue
The vehicles involved in the recall are fitted with an electric power steering system. Under certain conditions, the electric terminal of the wire harness connected to the steering system’s electronic control unit may slide (against non-conductive debris), due to vibration that occurs when driving, rubbing against the connector’s layer of tin-plating layer. This can result in debris, which may, over time, accumulate and become oxidised.
Due to an improper harness layout on right-hand drive models equipped with a driver’s knee airbag, the harness may interfere with the airbag’s lower panel cover. The driver’s knee may occasionally press against the airbag’s lower cover when getting into or out of the vehicle, causing the cover to press against the steering system’s wire harness. This contact may result in the connector terminal sliding onto the oxidised debris accumulated on electrical insulator, resulting in electrical contact failure. The steering system ECU will then illuminate the EPS warning light and the steering assistance will be disabled.
    The recall
Registered vehicle keepers will be contacted by Toyota within the coming weeks by post or telephone and asked to make an appointment to bring their car to their nearest Toyota centre, in accordance with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) code of practice. For all vehicles involved in the recall, the electric power steering ECU and wire harness will be replaced. The work should take about one hour to complete.
If owners require additional information they can contact their local Toyota Centre or the recall helpline on 0800 1388744."

    I did just this.
I Bought an ex Toyota press TRD for a very good price.
Have added near 20k miles over nearly two years with over 12 track days as well as sprints.Drive it hard and us it every day. The funny thing is it hasn't missed a beat and has not suffered any of the niggles that many others have!
Of course it still has the warranty so what's to worry about? I honestly think treating cars like they are made from ice is a waste of time.
Drive it hard and enjoy it. It's what Toyota had in mind when they designed it!

You'll all have fun at the end of the month...
Was at Bedford Autodrome today, VERY cold, icy entrance road on arrival,  but sunny and dry. The only GT86 there...sad times... but a good mix of cars.   Another well run event by Javelin - they did black flag me once (the no drifting policy...) but accepted that I was genuinely trying to keep it tidy.... nothing deliberate (I blame the worn Primacys).   I was worried that on the 3.8 mile GT circuit the car would feel under powered - but not at all - could make excellent progress but still enjoy the balance of the car (such an enjoyable chassis to balance as it tries to let go a lot - again maybe the primacys & cold track temp).   So cold that my tyres are set to 35psi (always show 35 on a warm day - stationary / not been driven / in the garage) were down at 32 (due to weather) but back up to 37 (& higher) after a few laps.   Surprising how much quicker the GT lapped compared to much nicer / more dedicated machinery, really is a good car, don't know how these get slated.   Tyres and brakes seemed just about take 4 - laps before noticeably going off.   The idea was to give Cath some time as a passenger on track (having missed the opportunity at the Sprints last season).   (Speaking of which they said the 2016 TSS dates will be released soon - and will include Anglesey!).   I guess the only negative is that Bedford is still quite a "rough" surface and seems to give the tyres a harder time than other circuits (maybe because it's a "corporate entertainment venue" as such).   But smiles all round - top day:   [url=http://postimg.org/image/9hhq7q9up/full/]   [url=http://postimg.org/image/3kig4ni3l/full/]   [url=http://postimage.org/]   [url=http://postimage.org/]   [url=http://postimg.org/image/x7dbo6s1n/full/]   [url=http://postimg.org/image/4pmujph1x/full/]

Small video of the stage 2 package with some dyno footage from this week. We're now up from 5psi to just 8psi and the performance increase has impressed us both!

Still more work to be done to finalize things and get the finished article to post up, our car is making more power than quoted in the video though  Car still drives like stock with the new components and once final refinements are sorted and dialed in economy when cruising will not be effected. The car is a very healthy 50+bhp and 40+lb.ft over our baseline tune of 5psi. Equates to 145bhp and 110lb.ft over our stock car. Very promising

Boost control is working exactly as we wanted it to via ECUTeK, dialing it in nicely now and it is very precise and more importantly very repeatable. We're using a 3port boost solenoid and our TiAL MVR 44mm External Wastegate for control. The control is just as repeatable as running it from the mechanical spring alone which is great. Once we've done some more testing and data logging on the road we'll look at the boost by gear functions and get those setup as an option for people too.

Had a break from eating everything in sight and gave the GT a clean - also a chance to use my new hose (I know I must've been good for Santa right?).
Body (AG EGP) and wheels (Poorboys) are well sealed so it comes up well with a clean and a wipe over with AF finale:

    Thanks everyone for the comments!
I bought a used pearl white, 13 plate with 24k on the clocks.
First things first are to get my insurance sorted out, but I already have a TRD ducktail spoiler and Toyota armrest in my spare bedroom, some Valenti rear lights on order and as soon as I can get a straight answer from my insurer I plan to get some Rota Grid 18s with some Tein Flex Z coilovers. By March I'll hopefully have some bits under the bonnet (keeping it NA for the foreseeable future) and a new exhaust and a remap sorted.
This is the last toy I'm allowed before my wife starts pestering me for kids so I'm determined to enjoy it!
As I've been loitering around here for so long it will be nice to get out and about and start meeting people from the forum, I've already put my name down for Rockingham in August.

*Should have mentioned I won't be picking it up until Xmas week, be a nice early present to myself!

Not great. Issues with the MAP sensor not liking the Sprintex/ECUTEK setup which is the same for the boys in the States so ECUTEK are looking into that for Mark, and the IAT's are very, very high even on a 15 second dyno run
I've got the car back for a show tomorrow at Brands Hatch so I spent the day giving her a well needed clean

Mark has worked some great magic so far and I've got a decent map with 7000krpm to play with. The drive home was just insane. Pulls like an absolute train and triple digit speeds come far quicker than I expected
But then back to Mark Monday for some more tweaking before we release a final number, but it may not be what we were hoping for...yet

    She's finally done!
Will at JP Exhausts in Macclesfield just gave me a call to say it's finished and that he's just emailed me some pics. Ready to collect her tomorrow!
I can't thank Will and JP Exhausts enough. Every step of the way they have listened to the spec I wanted, kept me fully up to date and gone far beyond what I ever expected if I'm honest. Will has even gone to the trouble of rebuilding part of the catback exhaust where I'd flattened the pipe into the backbox from the car being so low - he's raised the pipe up as much as possible and even stuck a 5mm plate on the bottom to stop it crushing the pipe in future and making sure it stays a 3" bore
No manifold that I know of for the GT86 has a larger bore than 1.75" on the primaries - I asked Will if a 2" was possible and he's somehow done it! It looks amazing, such a shame you can't really see it unless you're under the car :( this large bore will allow us to get as much as possible from the supercharger
The main concern was noise - the catback itself with the old 1.5" bore manifold and 2.5" overpipe and front pipe was LOUD. Will has managed to squeeze in 2 huge silencers to the front pipe which will considerably help reduce the noise. Not the prettiest front pipe in the world with the 2 big boxes stuck in there, but it had to be done if I wanted any chance of getting on track
    So, a few pictures...
    Manifold - 2" bore in a 4-1 design finishing in a 3" collector

It's not quite as unequal as the old Borla manifold was, simply due to the fact that the larger bore means you can't make the shorter side the same as the Borla because of the angles...it's still unequal so will have the Scooby rumble, but just maybe not as much as before
Fitted to the car, it looks amazing!

Overpipe - there are only a couple of 3" overpipes on the market for the GT86. This connect the manifold to the front pipe but has to go over the front subframe and 3" is a REAL squeeze. But Will has worked his magic and done it without any issues

Front pipe - 3" bore with 2 massive silencers to give me a chance of passing the noise test on track

Not much room with those boxes in place when it's on the car...

And finally, the remade catback pipe that I didn't even ask for Will to do anything to! He's rebuilt about a 3rd of this to raise it up slightly, completely free of charge and the 5mm thick plate will help to keep it 3" if I do bash it again

I haven't even seen this work in person yet but I'm already so impressed! Really can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and see what a difference it makes to the sound. I think I still may need some sort of bungs on the tailpipes to make sure I'm track legal, but that's easy enough as the tips of the exhaust are held on with clamps, so I can just clamp the bung onto the actual pipe from the back boxes
I'll get some videos over the weekend and then it's into Abbey on Tuesday 17th ready for mapping!
