I've had a GT86 for 3.5 years and recently thought about changing it. I narrowed it down to a facelift GT86, a Golf R and an M135i. I test drove both of the latter. The Golf R was refined, quick and had a surprisingly good ride quality. The M135i was fine until you started to push hard and then it started to get a bit untidy. In my opinion a great engine waiting for a great chassis. The Golf was tempting but I didn't think it had the same finesse as the GT86. A great car, though. In the end, as my car is low mileage, I decided to spend some money on some mods and keep it for a bit longer. The nice problem is that the GT86 spoils you and it's difficult to find something that is as good a driver's car until you start to spend a lot more money. Although I haven't driven the facelifted car, I've seen it at the showroom and the interior is now much better (with the exception of the crappy audio head unit and the stereo). What I struggle to understand is that Toyota changed the interior, the exterior, and the handling but the one thing most people wanted them to do - give the engine some more power - they didn't. I think an extra 20% would really complement the car without spoiling what makes it what it is.

K&N or HKS are popular filters, i have the K&N myself. Also armrest is very good value for money.

So back in August I bought my 86, I always loved these cars and to own one at 21 was like a dream come true. It came with 22k on the clock, half leather interior, Cruise control, and sat nav. I absolutely loved it!

After just 2 weeks in to owning the car I visioned exactly how I wanted it to look. So firstly I ordered my air lift performance front and rear struts. These had to be ordered from America because the demand for them is so low in this country, but just a week later they arrived

I then went about ordering my management, tanks, and compressors. I went with accuairs e level management, twin 400cc viair compressors, and two 3 gallon seamless tanks. A friend of mine wanted to do something a little different with the accuair manifold, so we rewired each solenoid to remove the ugly plug stuck to the side of the manifold, and went for a fully shaved look with a custom cover. 'projekthaus' being his company name

Whilst he was cracking on with that, I wanted to change up the standard rear lights. I see a lot of people changing to the valenti tail lights, but I loved the standard ones and just wanted to change them slightly. So I got out the dremel and started to cut the lense off to paint the insides satin black. As well as that, I tinted the reverse light slightly, as the chrome look doesn't do it for me. Makes a much nicer looking rear if I do say so myself

I didn't feel like the standard wheels would do the car much justice once the bags went on, so I went out and bought these works vs-xx wheels. 18x8 fronts, and 18x9 at the rear. Once these came we were ready to start fitting the bags.

Just two days later the bags and wheels were on, and an untrimmed install was put in to attend a local meet, and I couldn't have been happier with it!

Next was the push to get the install trimmed and finished before ultimate stance, it delayed me setting off down by about 4 hours, but with it all done I wasn't complaining

And a few picture of it caught there

Then the big purchase came, my rocket bunny kit! From the word go I knew I wanted to rocket bunny it, so when I picked the kit up, with me being a painter, I got prepping straight away!

Decided to paint the skirts, front lip, and the rear diffuser first. I've decided the kit is going to be painted matte metallic black, just so it stands out that bit more.

Just before fitting it all, unfortunately someone decided to drag a key down the side of my car! I was devastated, but nothing that couldn't have been sorted I suppose.

So with it back to being good as new, we got to fitting the lip and diffuser

And here's where we're at today! Just 4 and a half months after buying it fully standard, I don't think I've been doing too bad so far

Custom exhaust will be done tomorrow, hopefully, to give it much more of an aggressive tone to it.
And now due to plans changing, my rocket bunny arches are up for sale, drop me a pm if anyone is interested

The car runs an external gate yes, you can run a blow off valve with the kit, the TiAL QSport 50mm BOV is an option for those that would like one

Well it's soon going to be time for me to hand the car back in to Toyota, I had originally planned to keep it three years but after two Toyota have offered me more money than cars for sale privately and mine has more miles etc on it!!!
Sad to be leaving as its an amazing little car, have loved every minute of owning it, doing my first trackday and competing in the TSS of which I finished 3rd in class last year which I was proud of considering my lack of experience
Unfortunately I can't say I'm moving on to bigger and better things as it will be being replaced by a 5door Aygo X-Cite to allow me to build up some savings before buying something truly stupid, or another 86 in a years time...
Going to stay as a lurker on the forum to keep an eye on things coming up for sale, TSS info (the Aygo may make an appearance this year for a giggle) and random social meets if I'm allowed to attend  this forum and group of people really are exceptional I think, never met a friendlier (and boozier) lot in my whole 7 years of driving
Anyway, I'll leave this with a few of my favourite pics from the last two years...
    Love to all

Thanks. I got them over here for about £1100 in the end all in. I picked them up directly from STS imports.
These are cheap because they are a little known company, but these are semi forged flow formed which makes them light (8.4kg for a 18x9 wheel) but also strong with a load rating of 720kg which is more than many high quality, much more expensive branded wheels.
    Snetterton on the 27th April?
I waited ages. Order them from Trackwerks in Canada, early December and they were delivered to Florida mid December. I missed the December shipment by 2 days  so I had to wait till the 15th Feb for them to be shipped and they arrived at STS in Chelmsford on friday 18th March. Typically they ship a container every 6 weeks but the xmas period extended that by a week or so. If you are lucky and order an item and it arrive right before they pack the container, then you might only be waiting 4 weeks.
Was quoted $750 to ship them to the UK so would have cost about £1550 all in.

Hotel am Tiergarten was fine (Sabine Schmitz family hotel), and very close to the ring. Weekend got a lot busier than late Friday afternoon. Was also cool to see the track being used for commercial testing before opening to the public on the Friday.
Rented GT86s (3 of them) at Cologne airport & drove to the 'ring - that was awesome fun, and the reason I'm getting an 86 now
We rented a Golf GTI from RentRaceCar (on-site) - the car was nowhere near the limiting factor for me. We left the TC on, and at one point it definitely saved us when my friend was going "very enthusiastically". DSG shifting was also welcome - there was so much else to concentrate on for me. The rental included insurance, though the excess was massive (4000 euro, IIRC?). No matter how good a driver you are, I'd say crashing is a possibility. Coming round a blind bend to find a wheel which has just been ripped of the car in front was a surprise, for example, and I wouldn't want to split costs 50/50 with a Ferrari driver. If I was to go again, I'd investigate the costs of insurance with a lower excess - perhaps 1000 euro.
It's worth taking the time to familiarise yourself on a simulator beforehand - it's nothing like driving it for real, but it's very nice to know what's coming up next and not feel completely lost. I'd recommend Assetto Corsa, but so long as it's not completely wrong anything would be a help. I used Forza on the Xbox (I think), and bought Assetto Corsa setup when I got back so I could keep daydreaming
It's one of the most fun things I have ever done, and I would love to do it again. I'd even like to have a go in my old yank classic, but preferably on a day when all the other cars are overpowered & don't handle and their owners are terrified of damaging them!

So now to give up smoking and then make a purchase! Although test driving an aero on Thursday! I won't buy it ....honest

    -Mishimoto Intake Hose blue
    -Badge painted
    -CobraSport Resonated Catback exhaust

    -OEM ArmRest
    -OEM Mud guards
    -JapanRacing JR3 17x8 5x100 ET35 white wrapped in Kumho KU39 tyres
So i thought its time i create a thread to post mods i've done to the car and upcoming plans.
So i bought the car back in November 2015 and the first mod i did was change the panel air filter to the Blitz LM panel air filter, but soon after that came mid December i decided i want the Blitz SUS power induction kit as i managed get reasonable good price from Fensport.

Installed and removed the artifical sound hose:

I have also managed to secure the arm rest and the mud guards, courtesy of Toyota small technical error:

The next thing i did, while cleaning the car was remove the Toyota wording from the boot,i will be removing the GT86 and toyota logo rear and front for painting when the weather is better.

Other small changes was installing LED bulbs to the interior cabin and number plate.

The next mod done this month was installing Cobrasport resonated catback system with overpipe.

The next mods planned for the year:
    - Perrin Intake hose
    -ECU remap
    -New wheels
    -Exterior cosmetic changes(no bodykit)
    Future plans:
    - Forced induction
    -Carbon Fiber Bonnet
