tegunulgener reacted to rob275 in Robs S/C GT86 Project
Project revival time! It's been a while since I actually done anything to my car. As some of you probably know I took some time away from spending time & money on the car to save money for a property. Somehow this failed and i've saved "-£4000"... yes, that's a minus.
So what's changed since the last update?
- The alloy prop shaft has now been fitted (I honestly can't tell much difference, it's probably more noticeable on an N/A car? Still every little helps.
- I've had the HKS oil cooler fitted and temperatures are now peachy This was well overdue!
I also did sell my Sprintex a while ago but after Harrop had some delays and the guy seemed to be in a rush to get the sprintex off me I had to refund his deposit. Not particularly happy as I lost £30 out of the whole ordeal. He seemed to think that it took 90 minutes to take a Sprintex off a GT86 anbd he couldn't quite grasp the fact I had a social life on weekends and wanted to wait until Abbey had the harrop so they could take it off and put the new one on. Still, nevermind i'm going to save that money I was going to spend on the harrop and work on dialling in the handling of the car more this year.
Anyway... Intec 3rd brake light ordered from Amber as it was too good to pass up
Cusco headlight leveller ordered alongside it as i'm fed up of not seeing anything in the dark!
Cobra HFC also in my bedroom, this may actually be getting sold straight off the bat tbh. Not for any majorly concerning reason. Watch this space (sorry for bad pic i'm too short)

I shall be updating this post in the next couple of weeks I imagine with more news but that is all for now.
Things to fix on the car still:
- Front bumper, I need to get this off and see what clip damage has been done, i'm a bit OCD so I may end up buying a new bumper, splitter and smoothing it in again so it sits right. Lesson learnt not to drive home after the xmas meet in Birmingham with a horrendous hangover. All in all that was a pricey weekend which I do not like talking about
- Milltek exhaust, seriously do not buy this shite. I have my MOT beginning of Nov so will be getting this sorted by then hopefully or if not i'll have to get off my lazy backside and put my stock frontpipe on because it's got a bit of wind atm.

Yesterday involves a 470mile round trip to see the guys in action at TSS and also collect one of my favourite mods for the car so far
We originally ordered this towards the end of last year, only to be told that the mould wasn't right and it could take up 6 months for it to be rectified! So I got my money back and waited for updates. Gladly, Chris @Tarmac messaged me about 6 weeks ago, money was paid again and the waiting game began...I had to collect it from Chris as we didn't want to send it through the UK parcel network with it being such a large and fragile item - thankfully it's in PERFECT condition
AMS VIS Racing carbon bootlid
Time for a test fit. Old boot off
New boot on
Absolutely LOVE it! Couple of shots from the same angles to compare before and after
Fitment is basically perfect, just a shame they forgot to cut the whole on the underside of the boot where the wiring grommet goes so I've got to find someone that can cut carbon nicely for me now, as I don't dare touch this with anything sharp!

Took her to Cars and Coffee Liverpool on Sunday, what a day. A well organised event, and some fantastic cars there, so here are a few pictures I've pinched off the facebook page taken by other people (I hope they don't mind me using them):
I had to lift the rear suspension as the wheels were slightly catching on the newly installed splash guard. Needless to say I am incredibly happy with the end result. Nigel has done a cracking job with the arches, which fit perfectly and Lee from Autokraft has done a spot on job with the installation of the kit! The wheels are extreme, I think this is the perfect to describe them. Rich from Demon Tweeks has managed to get the 10.5" Wide ET46 rears to fit, using -5 deg of camber. For all those people who say it isn't practical I know, but in the flesh it looks stunning, and lets be honest it isn't a practical car. However I did fit the baby seat in the back yesterday and we went out for a family journey in it. A lot of modifying was required to get the fronts to fit, not modifying Nigels arches but the actual car arch as the wheels were too wide. On full lock the wheels only just miss the back of the front headlight unit by a few mm. Some welding and reinforcing was required, but whey they finally fit. Anyway more photos soon. Hope you like. -

tegunulgener got a reaction from Herbie86 in Unexpected things you like about the GT86
i like the amount of stuff i can fit in the car when people are saying it doesnt fit... i like the feeling of driving a Toyota which makes me feel in safe and reliable car. I like the monologues with satnav woman. she never replies but passengers does lol i like the serious toy feeling. i can play with it. designs fits nicely, always attracts attention on the streets. people desires it but not brave enough to have one. that makes me feel special. i like the insurance because it is not really expensive so makes the car more drivable. i like the balance of the car. god knows how many times i saved the car from spinning (no wasnt speeding) on black ice. (same thing happened with mum's yaris, too but GT86 is cooler and like the bucket seats...

Thanks for your input Mark. I had good drive to Brands hatch and back today, a mixture of all different sort of roads so it gave me a good chance to really see what she can do now that there's a decent map in place
The torque is endless in any gear. Cruising at motorway speeds I'm able to just dab the throttle to overtake with ease without coming out of 6th gear
Going from around 30mph in 2nd gear is just insane, car picks up instantly and 3rd and 4th gear are dealt with extremely quickly
I haven't got an IAT gauge yet to monitor inlet temps but it's on the cards, but with the extremely cold weather today the car just loved it
The event at Brands was really good, despite it being below freezing when I woke up this morning and when we arrived!
Car was in the show and shine section and was considered for best wheels, best paint, best interior and car of the show, but sadly there was stiff competition so no trophies for me today
Car's back with Mark tomorrow to work some more of his magic before we post up official numbers

My 2 pence worth being the tuner of the car in question:
Yes we see high IAT's but with the excellent EcuTek software we are able to work on this small problem. Other cars sold by manufacturers also see what most people will say are high IAT's.
I agree that an air to air charge cooler would be the best way but the set up off the twin screw SC like the Sprintex/Cosworth/Harrop and the Edelbrock doesn't allow this system to be fitted and all these SC systems but the gains from a positive charge SC is worth the side effects of water to air charge coolers.
Everyone thinks the lowest IAT is the best but the lower the IAT the harder it is to get the fuel to atomise the ideal temp is around 25/35 degree C for the best mixing of the fuel and compressed air. What we have with the FA20 motor with the DI (direct injection) is a very effective way of lowering the temperature of the charged air before compression we can when tuning these motors csn change the position and quantity of the injection of fuel to help cool the charged air. We can quantify this as running less fuel on the DI will cause a higher amount of noise from the detonation sensors.
The added gain of a SC is also the lack of restriction after the engine cycle where as a turbo has the sequence of the of exhaust gas driving by the turbo charged causing high pressure in the exhaust port which can cause issues with back filling the cylinders.
One thing I like about positive displacement SC is the instant response, Jordan's car is unbelievable at lower rpms truly inspiring.
One thing thou with regards water injection the latest BMW has it fitted as standard think it is the M2 I doubt BMW will use it fix an issue with careful and control usage it is an very good system to aid combustion and enhanced gains.
this was typed on my I phone so I may have to correct some spelling and grammar later on.
thanks
