Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 Hello guys, Only recently signed up to this forum. Just wanting to start a thread so people can follow my experience with my GT86 TRD and the modifications I have planned for it. Had the car for 7 months and loved every minute of it! Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 I finally have my car booked in to fensport for mid august for some work to be done: Turbo kit fitted Race breather system fitted Avo BOV Fidanza aluminium lightweight flywheel Helix uprated organic clutch and assembly Millers gearbox oil Millers nanotec oil Avo 3" exhaust from turbo back Lightweight pulley kit Lightweight Oversize alternator Lightweight Oversized water pump Lightweight crankshaft pulley Turbo boost valve Ecutek tuning with closed loop boost control Looking forward to the results! What are people thinking this kit will bring the car to in bhp? I'd want it at least 300bhp!
Keethos 842 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 Wow, awesome stuff, that'll be a nice big jump for you Welcome to the club and I look forward to reading your feedback after your mods!
nikndel 509 Report post Posted June 24, 2014 Hi there only a stones throw from you although got the Thames in the way! Even though I am in Essex Dartford was my place of birth so a fellow Kentish man. have you plans to go to any events in the upcoming months if that's your gig? I bet your wheels are one of the things you wont change!
Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Keethos, thank you! I'll be sure to let you guys know my feedback. Must say though, far my dealings with fensport have been very good, albeit only planning my above mods over the phone with Tony. Nikndel I'll be completely honest - I've never been to any of the events. I may consider going to one when the kit is installed, and hopefully see you there along with some other guys from this site. 2 nikndel and Danellen2989 reacted to this
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Hi Dan, welcome aboard. Reckon you are the first TRD to have a turbo conversion! Are you really having a 'lightweight crankshaft' fitted though? Is it steel and how much? Also 'lightweight' alternator and water pump? Is this trying to save weight?

Lauren 2259 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Yep, it must be surely. But it also says 'oversized' which I don't understand in this application.
Pitman 188 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Welcome to the forum! I can guarantee you a great experience with Fensport. With the exception of the lightweight flywheel and pulleys, it sounds like you will be having a similar spec to my car. I haven't had it back onto a dyno since I had the full 3" exhaust fitted, but with a 2.5" turbo outlet pipe and overpipe, and 3" from the cat pipe back, on the high boost setting the power was 328 bhp with a torque figure of 259 ft/lb. This was at "The Power Station" in Tewkesbury. When Adrian re-mapped it after the full 3" system was fitted, the flow went up by approx 10g, which equated to roughly an additional 10bhp. Must get it back onto the dyno! One word of advice - make sure you only use Shell V Power once you have the turbo fitted. I once made the mistake of filling up with BP before a dyno day, and the ecu pulled the timing right back due to detonation, resulting in a loss of over 30 bhp. rob275 1817 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Welcome to the Club & Forum Should be interesting once it's done though the power may be a shock to the system. 300bhp easy. You should consider coming to JAE, it's a whole weekend thing in September. There is a few other events in July also if you changed your mind and wanted to go to one of them. Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Lauren, my bad, it's a lightweight alloy crankshaft PULLEY. I have edited my original post apparently it's 1.84kg lighter than stock. The alternator and water pump pulley is to reduce weight and as it's oversized, it will reduce the water pump and alternator speed (without affecting reliability) to free more power to go to the wheels ... Don't think the extra power from this will be something to shout home about though. Pitman...that's just made me smile a little more now and even more eager for august to come round. Is there any 0-62 mph times around pre and post turbo? Rob275, sounds good. I'll keep my eyes on the events page and let people know which ones I come to. Sounds like a good laugh! Pitman 188 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Pitman...that's just made me smile a little more now and even more eager for august to come round. Is there any 0-62 mph times around pre and post turbo? Standard is around 7.2 to 7.8 seconds, The best I have got (using the Torque App) is around 5 seconds post turbo fitment. Very much depends on how hard you are on your drivetrain. Special K 442 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Dan - a blinding specification, you are to be congratulated... Pitman's power runs were on a rolling road and it is unlikely that identical results will be gleaned from elsewhere. Mine (currently still with 2.5" exhaust) is developing 240-245bhp at the rear hubs which, allowing for my being an auto, estimates at 300-310bhp at the flywheel.. Your locality would make it very easy for you to use Mark at Abbey Motorsport for hub dyno runs... well worth it, in my opinion. Totally agree with Pitman - stay on Shell V-Power for optimum performance if that is what Adrian at Fensport re-maps you on.. I really look forward to meeting up with you - us turboheads have got to stick together!! Spec K
Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks Spec K. I think I will be in contact with mark at abbey motor sports sometime to get it on the dyno after it's done. Just out of interest, what kind of league should the car be in after the work is done? I mean are we talking astra VXR territory or bmw 335i territory or more? Fastest thing I've driven I think is a bmw 330i!
GT86Jay 202 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 It'll be quicker than a 330i. A GT86 NA with remap is quicker. My mate has a BMW 330ci M Sport. And we're pretty much even, GT86 has advantage off the line due to weight. and then again at the top end with the longer gears.
CHOSENMAN007 81 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Above those car buddy. Same peak power out puts as the 335i but remember that car is 400kg heavier. In gear acceleration yeah the 335i has the torques. But anywhere else you would smash those cars. 400kg is a shed load of extra weight. Don't look at the numbers, look at power to weight ratios Dan. Best context of how a car is.
Special K 442 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Dan - suffice it to say that, at 280 bhp/tonne you will be up there. The RMA Trackday instructor who tested my car said it was Porsche acceleration with 335i handling.. with manual box you will be way faster off the line than me. There's only one way to find out - come to a trackday ! Spec K

Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Tell me about it! Just by interest, with the work fensport will do with the turbo etc, will the mpg change much in comparison to what it is now if the car is driven hard?
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Tell me about it!Just by interest, with the work fensport will do with the turbo etc, will the mpg change much in comparison to what it is now if the car is driven hard? When driven hard expect the economy to drop a fair bit. Off boost is where it won't change as much.Consider this, you need to run a richer (more fuel) AFR when boosting than when NA and then you're force feeding more air, so you need even more fuel. Obviously the more boost you run, the worse the MPG will become. 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this
Pitman 188 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Dan, I have just replied to your pm. Off boost, there should be no detrimental effect on your fuel consumption at all. However, if you are concerned about that, then you need to be really sure forced induction is right for you.
Danellen2989 8 Report post Posted June 25, 2014 Ok guys so to go onto my ICE which I installed a few months ago. The set-up is as follows: Standard headunit signals out into... Audison Bit One DSP into JL Audio HD 900/5 amp which powers Audison Voce AV K6 2-way components in the front Rears are standard And I have a JL Audio GT86 Stealthbox made and shipped in for me. The amp, power distribution block, grounding distribution block, and the DSP is nicely out of the way and hidden in my own wooden enclosure in the cavity where the spare wheel would go under the boot flooring. Verdict? Frigging awesome sound set-up. Future plans? Install another JL Audio HD 900/5 amp. Install some bigger speakers to replace the rears. Consider installing 2.5" mid range speakers (the speaker grilles on dash have the capability for them already) Picture of the JL Audio Stealthbox in the boot...very OEM look. 1 Keethos reacted to this

CHOSENMAN007 81 Report post Posted June 26, 2014 Keith I'm going to say the auto is faster in my opinion off the line. Key words my opinion. Why you say, well going out on a limb I'm probably the only one to ever own 2 gt86s in the u.k going off the forum members. One a manual and a auto. Not test drove but lived with. Personally dispite what Toyota say in the brochure's I say the auto is faster. Faster off the line and through gears. Even a Toyota manager and test driver agreed. It was said Toyota advertised the auto to be slower to get older more mature drivers in. Truth in it? Heck if I know but I could be wrong. All I'm saying if it feels faster.
