Test Drives Unlimited reacted to Lauren in Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
There is no reason to be any difference, Nigel. It's not like buying a house!

Mine has gone into Lancaster rayleigh today.
All seems good so far. Have a friendly lady as a point of contact that seems very knowledgeable. Also went on the road test with the tech doing the work and he seems to know his stuff.
Only bits I am not sure on is the quote I have been given to get the spark plugs done whilst the engine is out. What have others paid?
Seems they are working fast. Already have pics of the clutch out so i am doing to take the up on the £260 for a new one to future proof her.
Quite like my lexus barge I have been given too. Did try my luck for the supra 😂 (looks good in grey)

Test Drives Unlimited got a reaction from Lauren in Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Got my GT86 back yesterday from Gatwick Toyota and all done including replacing the Water Pump etc...and sealing a few Oil Leaks.
Parts cost £197.11 , the replacement Spark Plugs were already included in the Service Contract when GT86 had the 120k Service on 17th October 2019....
They also cleaned the car as it hadn't been washed since the Service in October.

It depends how long it is since you used it. If your battery is over three years old and of the old black top/white body 45Ah I would replace it. If the car is under three years old, do it under warranty. Otherwise replace for a 65Ah. Lack of use is most of the problem really.

I've had blowouts on more than one car, I'm paranoid I've never had a tyre die in a way it would have helped
Thank you
Thank you

I might look at that. I quite like space savers though because if I have a full size spare then I don't get around to getting it fixed, whereas if I have an ugly speed restricted space saver on the car it prompts me to sort it!!

I carry a full size spare wheel in the boot and bought the other floor cover you can get to accommodate this from Australia.

It's nothing like a full engine rebuild! This is at best misinformation and at worst, scaremongering. They don't even take the heads off to change the valve springs. Things like this can never be 100% successful but that's just probability for you. 3505 cars in the UK are affected. Most have no issues and the bonus is that if you buy a car car that is a 2012/13 car most owners will have had the plugs changed and a new clutch as part of the deal. This saves money in the future. For cars that have problems post recall, pretty much all of these will be in the first 50 miles of driving the car away. I wouldn't see that as a reason to be put off. Also factor in that the coolant will have been changed and the aircon recharged. The recall is a big free service really.

It's not anything like a full engine rebuild, in fact it's nothing of the kind. They don't even remove the heads to replace the valves. Sure the cam covers come off and the cams have to come out, but that is all really. Due to the laws of probability nothing generally is 100% successful. But what is important here is not to spread over hyped scare stories when a lot of us have had the valve spring recall done with no problems at all. I would not be put off buying a car second hand if it had the valve spring recall. All I would do is make sure it's done a bit of mileage afterwards. Any failures and there have been very few in the UK will have resulted in the first 50 miles post recall.
Also it's worth remembering that if the OP bought a car that has just had the recall done, then it will have a warranty for a year on the engine.

14 possible attendees and 7 confirmed so far, across the two forums.
If you can avoid it, please don't arrive until 1pm as the staff will be busy clearing the car park to allow us to park together.
Many thanks.

Can also get these ones which go up to a 5XL though they aren't as thick and don't feel as premium (which is why we pick the better one, though they only go up to a 2XL unfortunately)
