The miles left thing is a bit of a nonsense though. On every car I've had that has had it it goes to zero or just '--' once the light come on anyway, so it's a pointless affair.

I've taken Indy (Cavalier) to Italy and back over the Alps, she goes everywhere in the car. She sits in the back if it's me in the car or if Mark is there as well she sits on his lap.

Welcome aboard! Is that an original TRD? I only ask as red was apparently avaiable but I've never seen one. A red TRD is very rare indeed!

Yes, to be fair a sprint environment is a safe place to get a taster. Don't worry about smashing the experienced driver's times in your class, just get a feel for it and go at a speed you are comfortable at. You don't have to take any risks after all.

Take a relaxed attitude to it, learn from what others are doing, there's always plenty of tips floating around. If at the end of the day we finish early you can do passenger rides with other competitors which will doubtless teach you a lot.

Rocking some new wheels for a couple of days while my stock wheels get refurbed courtesy of Alec for lending me his spare set of old Scoobie wheels with winter rubbers on......sorry to say it Alec but 16" are waaaaaay too small for these arches......they look sooooo lost......but thanks anyways

I do wonder if the wheel colour is a bit too dark and that's why it's hard to see the colour unless you've got the sun right on it.

Are you running stock tyres on an 8" rim?

I was doing this on mine. I swapped to Advans mainly for competitive reasons for the TSS. The biggest thing I've noticed is a marked improvement in ride quality. I think the deterioration in ride was caused by the stretch with the stock tyres on my rims. The handling was fab though, very direct response on the steering and easy to just light the rears up and go sideways. I can see why drifters like it.

Interesting to hear how you're finding it.

You may want to consider the TRD Aero Fins instead of the BRZ ones. The BRZ ones are half the price though!

As for wheels, there are some BBK's that will fit under 17" rims. Having driven the car on both 17s and 18's, I would say 18's don't necessarily ruin the handling, but you'd need a light weight wheel and in 18" that rules out all the Taiwanese ones really. The stock brakes are absolutely fine on the road. Yes it is possible to get them smoking and to fade, but it tends to happen after a prolonged period of really pushing the car. So it won't happen that often. On track anything over ten minutes can get them smoking, but if it's a trackday there's no need to hammer the brakes all the time, though I appreciate it's great if you just don't have to worry about it.

The thing is with 17" is that if you go for a 225/45/17 there is too much sidewall flex whatever you do, so it's better on a 215/45 which having less of a sidewall doesn't seem to have the same problem. This is why I run a 215 on an 8" rim. I may though when I burn off the Primacy tyres I've got on there try an Advan again but in stock sizes on my 8" rim as that may offer the best compromise. If you run an 18" wheel with 225/40/18 you don't get the sidewall flex option, but you need to ensure that you have a light wheel! It's complicated, but I've driven lots of other people's cars and experimented with tyre size myself, so that's what I've found.

Coming from the Mini you'll be used to tons of grip as the Mini is fairly over-tyred really. This car doesn't flow unless you've got it moving around a bit I find, so it's a careful balancing act, especially if you are running NA. Too much grip and you don't get the joy of the handling. Too little and it's a handful, but ultimately more enjoyable!

A 7.5" rim shouldn't really put much stretch at all on the tyre. Mine only had a bit, it wasn't extreme on an 8" rim.

Just so you know, the rear lights are not 'Lexus Style'. They are based on the 2000GT which was a key influence in the design as seen in the side glass profile also.

Not really worth buying a set of tyres if you just do occasional track work. The Primacy tyre goes off a bit when they get hot, but it remains consistent. You can drift it all day and they seem not to wear much. Had far more fun with Primacy's on track than I ever did with the grippier Yoko Advans which is why I've gone back to Primacy tyres again. They just seem to be able to take tons of abuse and still last forever. Win, win I reckon.
