New Devon owner :)

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Deposit down on a 2013 GT86 :) Hopefully picking up this weekend. Any other Devon owners on here? Any recommendations on a good independent garage for future servicing in the south Devon area?

Matt

Welcome aboard, Matt. I think there are a few owners around your area, but you'd inevitably have to travel for events which will undoubtedly be north of where you are. Any plans for the car?

Well we were discussing on here a while back that there was an 86 in Woolacombe with a club sticker on it that two of us had spotted independently whilst on holiday, but don't think we figured out who ;-)

Devon? It's mainly green with lots of blue round the edges. It's lovely. You should go...

This is correct. There are some grey bits with people in them, but I try not to go there...

Oh, and the car is red.

Main plans are:

Sort out audio a bit

Possibly powdercoat the OE alloys one colour as I'm not keen on them in the standard two tone. I'm thinking white or silver.

Probably get some fancy valenti rear lights: they look rather tasty.

I'm going to hold off doing anything adventurous with regard to tuning and just enjoy the car in standard form first. See whether I catch the bug later.

Any advice on other things I should definitely do / get checked etc?

Wait until you attend a meeting and see what others have done. You'll soon be changing everything

Yay red *hi 5*

So should I be looking into selling a kidney now to release some funds then?

Nah as long as you have a job, just little bit at a time or you don't get the full benefits of each change. If you do loads at once it feels completely different or you might find you don't like the changes.

You should definitely drive the road from the back of Starcross up Holden hill - the bests road in Devon I've found. Please advise if you know other good ones which I'm sure are out there!

With mods, I would decide after 6 months of driving if this is a car that you want to keep for the long haul and invest in, or if you think you'll have it for a couple of years then move on.

Thanks, I'll give that road a go! There's quite a few nice A and B roads around the south hams but I will definitely go for an explore (just moved here). Will let you know of any nice ones!

Just picked the car up! Drives like a dream!

Can't quite work the central locking / alarm out - beeps randomly when trying to lock it!

Hi Matt, Welcome to the club, lad you are enjoying it! Lucky to have all that countryside :)

Is the key/spare in the car by any chance or the doors/boot/windows open. That's when it beeps at me. There is a forum post on one o=f the forums that goes through all the alarm codes and various bits, should come up with a few tips. There are also various changes you can make to how the car locks/unlocks by pressing the fob keys in certain sequences. Forum post somewhere on that too.

Hi Matt,

I'm in somerset but no longer an owner, the only garage I could recommend (not through personal experience but via through the grapevine as it were) is Alan Jeffreys in Plymouth, he's a Subaru specialist so I'd imagine he's probably seen at least 1 brz or gt86 by now but is familiar with flat 4 engines

I have a mate who's got an engine build on his Impreza STI 350 from Allan Jeffries and it has been really reliable. I'm not sure if he's done any FA20s though. He keeps telling me to ask him because it 'will be like less than 4K or something' [errm no chance].
