Minion 132 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 I've done a lot of research and so far the cheapest I can get it for is about £1140 from Admiral which is okay but still hoping to get it a tad less
Varelco 211 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 I'd be surprised if you can get much better than that tbh, thats very good for a 20 year old.
BenGt86 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 24 yr old here. Devistated my new quote is £1200. Although that seems cheap in comparison to others online. Adrian flux quoted me online £1800! my previous Ibiza was £500!
Ztox 230 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 Haven't seen Sky mentioned, I know it's different for everyone but they were best for me so thought I'd give them a mention. When I was younger I found that the run of the mill insurance companies (not specially for performance/modified/imports) that you see on TV were cheaper than the specialists more often than not. 1 Minion reacted to this
Igi 28 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 I was in the same position when I got my GT a couple of weeks ago, after numerous searches I found Hastings and they offered me £1050, now being 22 with 3yr NCD and having held my license for 3 years I thought it wasn't too bad but Dan from Adrian Flux has bettered the quote whilst adding all extras as well (Hastings had no windscreen cover, legal protection was extra and no green card) so I gotta give them my praise! However I spoke to a couple of guys from Greenlight at Trax and over the phone and they really are car enthusiasts, they provide a more personal experience (one of the agents owns a GT86) and the only reason I didn't meet their requirements was that it was my first time in a RWD car, but I know who I'm going with next year as non performance modifications (wheels, body kits) don't affect the premium plus they offer track day cover too at no extra cost. Before you ask, no this post has not been sponsored by greenlight insurance... 😂 1 Minion reacted to this
DAN@ADRIAN FLUX 12 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 Hi, I'm glad we could be competitive for you this year. Just to let you know that on the majority of our modified schemes non performance mods can also be added free of charge. Regards Dan
STEVO9000 54 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 Mine is due next month. Waiting on my renewal to come through from Flux. Paid £498 for this year, so hopefully manage to get it a bit cheaper. Will prob be doing a spot of ringing round though!

Been great with them so far. 1 Igi reacted to this
remal 85 Report post Posted November 8, 2016 After reading this i'm so glad i'm not young, but saying that trying to Insure my Kawasaki H2 has been a real bitch and the most expensive and difficult to issue item I have ever had to try and insure
Willtl 54 Report post Posted November 8, 2016 After reading this i'm so glad i'm not young, but saying that trying to Insure my Kawasaki H2 has been a real bitch and the most expensive and difficult to issue item I have ever had to try and insure I think the idea of the high insurance for young people is to put them off getting anything too powerful. I certainly wouldn't have a BRZ if I had to pay more than a grand to ensure it. Fortunately my renewal was "just" £348.

I would not say to put them off. if a young person has lots of cash they can buy and insure most things. But if lack of experience and most risk with the young (which is how it is) results in major damage to other cars or people then its not just down to how much your car costs to insure when it may cost the insurance 400,000k if someone is is disabled because of being hit buy a young driver. But not saying it's just the young people who drive like dicks.
lewisw 28 Report post Posted November 9, 2016 Give Admiral/Elephant a bit of a haggle and try to put parents etc on as drivers, they also do a 10 month policy which grants you a years no claims and helps chip the price down. They quoted me £1,800 for my renewal originally and within 3 calls, adding parents as drivers, and taking the 10 month policy it ended up coming down to £570, I'm only 23 with 2 years no claims and only got the car in July. 1 Igi reacted to this
AJ124 118 Report post Posted November 10, 2016 Be careful with the 10 month policies, I had one for a couple of years and then really struggled to find another insurer who would accept the "bonus" years and I ended up loosing 1 years ncb when I switched to a new company. Its a long and boring story, just be aware basically every company who doesn't offer a 10 month policy probably wont accept a 10 month bonus year as a full years ncb. I will add this was 3/4 years ago, so it may have changed.

Unless it's because you'll have more years NCD than you've had your license for, in which case, I've yet to have an issue!
AJ124 118 Report post Posted November 10, 2016 Just now, Mike said: How would they know? Unless it's because you'll have more years NCD than you've had your license for, in which case, I've yet to have an issue! Essentially I had my licence for lets say 3 years 8 months but had 4 years ncb at the time of renewal, as I had used an accelerator policy for 2 years. Could see it being fine if you had a claim or didn't insure a car for a while to help build it up a bit quicker, but for me it left me the choice of sticking with a 10 month policy, which had suddenly got very expensive (£400 more than a normal 12 month policy elsewhere), waiting 4 months to renew or loosing a years ncb with a new insurer. I took the latter as it actually worked out about the same price as sticking with the 10 month policy, but meant I was back to having more licence time than ncb. It still cost me about £400 extra that year to sort it out.

I can see the reasoning behind that, fortunately I've found my insurer to always be competitive and flexible with the right amount of calls and negotiating, used them for the last 3 years because of that, hopefully they will continue to do so next year and i wont get stung by the NCB issue.
