Eddy bagged D4S gt86

Recommended Posts

So back in August I bought my 86, I always loved these cars and to own one at 21 was like a dream come true. It came with 22k on the clock, half leather interior, Cruise control, and sat nav. I absolutely loved it!

After just 2 weeks in to owning the car I visioned exactly how I wanted it to look. So firstly I ordered my air lift performance front and rear struts. These had to be ordered from America because the demand for them is so low in this country, but just a week later they arrived

I then went about ordering my management, tanks, and compressors. I went with accuairs e level management, twin 400cc viair compressors, and two 3 gallon seamless tanks. A friend of mine wanted to do something a little different with the accuair manifold, so we rewired each solenoid to remove the ugly plug stuck to the side of the manifold, and went for a fully shaved look with a custom cover. 'projekthaus' being his company name

Whilst he was cracking on with that, I wanted to change up the standard rear lights. I see a lot of people changing to the valenti tail lights, but I loved the standard ones and just wanted to change them slightly. So I got out the dremel and started to cut the lense off to paint the insides satin black. As well as that, I tinted the reverse light slightly, as the chrome look doesn't do it for me. Makes a much nicer looking rear if I do say so myself

I didn't feel like the standard wheels would do the car much justice once the bags went on, so I went out and bought these works vs-xx wheels. 18x8 fronts, and 18x9 at the rear. Once these came we were ready to start fitting the bags.

Just two days later the bags and wheels were on, and an untrimmed install was put in to attend a local meet, and I couldn't have been happier with it!

Next was the push to get the install trimmed and finished before ultimate stance, it delayed me setting off down by about 4 hours, but with it all done I wasn't complaining

And a few picture of it caught there

Then the big purchase came, my rocket bunny kit! From the word go I knew I wanted to rocket bunny it, so when I picked the kit up, with me being a painter, I got prepping straight away!
IMG_20151121_152603.jpg

Decided to paint the skirts, front lip, and the rear diffuser first. I've decided the kit is going to be painted matte metallic black, just so it stands out that bit more.

Just before fitting it all, unfortunately someone decided to drag a key down the side of my car! I was devastated, but nothing that couldn't have been sorted I suppose.

So with it back to being good as new, we got to fitting the lip and diffuser

And here's where we're at today! Just 4 and a half months after buying it fully standard, I don't think I've been doing too bad so far

Custom exhaust will be done tomorrow, hopefully, to give it much more of an aggressive tone to it.

And now due to plans changing, my rocket bunny arches are up for sale, drop me a pm if anyone is interested

Like the light idea never seen that done

Thanks! Took a lot of work, but it cost me a couple of quid in total and it changes the rear quite a lot. Wanted to give it a go before spending £200+ on a pair of valentis

Like I said on your thread on another site, I like the fact that you did something different.

I doubt you'll get much approval of the air ride on this site either, as there are lots of keen drivers here, but you clearly didn't build the car for racing, so props for doing it your way.

Not sure if you've ever thought about this, but I think those wheels would look great in silver, as opposed to white. Would make it look a little more classy. Just my 2p.

Either way, welcome to the forum :)

Just taken the wheels for stripping down actually. I think I'm going for satin black centres, gloss black dishes, with gold bolts, just to make them stand out a little bit

Looks like you've gone balls deep on this I'm assuming those wheels are temporary or are you planning on chucking some spacers on when you get the arches on?

Bags have come a long way since the early years, or so i've heard. You could track them if you have the right setup.

Either way, welcome to the club :)

I'll put wider dishes on if/when the arches go on, as they're 3 piece.

But yeah the bags are fine, handles just fine for what I use the car for :)

Thanks for the nice welcome!

Nice build so far and welcome to the club! I've always liked the idea of air suspension in the fact that you could raise and lower at will it you were tackling big bumps and what not. Are handling with air rides that bad or is it just the stigma attached to it that people dismiss them so quickly after all, high end car companies use them too e.g. Bentley even on their GT3R

Yeah I don't see why not! I was nervous as hell doing mine, but now they're done I'd be confident to do more sets.

Just wish they were sealed together like 90% of other car lights, Toyota thought it'd be a brilliant idea to fuse the lenses on so there's plenty of dremel time involved hahaha

The rear lights are brilliant. That's what I want to do too - nice to see it looks good in reality. I'm waiting for a reasonably priced s/h set to come up, and then I'll be after tips!

The rest of the car looks great too. Very clean.

It honestly handles perfect! These are the highest quality air lift produce, and they do a lot of research and development to make sure they're good for track use, as well as Road use. Mine won't be going on the track, but if I wanted to it would be perfectly suitable.

Sorry, not a fan

Air ride has never been to my liking, I just don't get it!

Front splitter and rear diffuser look a bit out of place too. Liking the wheels though, they suit it very nicely!

No need to apologise, we all have our different taste. Front splitter isn't staying, I will be replacing it with a nice Apr carbon lip, or vertex lip in the next couple of months.

Thanks very much, really appreciate it

Welcome aboard! That's a serious amount you have managed to get done in four months. I have to admit, I've never researched the airbag thing, so to a point I don't understand it, but each to their own and top marks for effort.

So what are you going to go for in terms of a kit then?

As in, body kit? Or....?

I'm assuming Lauren meant body kit wise since you're not going rocket bunny anymore.

How much weight does all the tank and parts in the boot weigh and does that mean you can't lower the rear seats now?

I'll be keeping the rocket bunny rear diffuser on, but I'm not 100% decided on what I want to do to the body now

All in it probably weighs about 20kg, nothing too major anyway. And yes I can't lower the back seats as we have mounted the two tanks to them. Although if i ever desperately needed to, it would be possible by just taking out the hard lines and replacing with normal soft air line.

So I took the car for its custom exhaust today. Nothing too major, just a simple cat back exhaust deleting the silencer and back box. Upped the pipe size to 2 1/2" with 4" tips to give it much more of an aggressive tone.

An absolute work of art!

So the wheels are finally almost complete. A lot of time stripping, painting, and rebuilding these wheels, but the results are far better than I imagined.

Originally I wanted to go with anodised gold bolts, but unfortunately stainless steel can't be anodised. So instead I decided to keep them polished.

Just to seal and get the tyres put on and they'll be back on.

Also whilst they've been off, I sent the adaptors away for milling down. These came originally as 50mm!! It looked okay, and the fitment was quite tight, but there was just a little bit too much poke. I'm more of a tucking sort of guy, so shortened them by 10mm to hopefully get the works inside the arches.
